Thank you for all those who took part in the latest Instagram poll and voted for this video.
Based on the comments, there seem to be a lot of confusion over the origin of the words, as some people have falsely claimed that none of the words are Kurdish and they are all of Arabic origin. This is not true, the words are a mix, and that is part of the process of selecting them. The goal of these videos are to bring people closer together though commonalities. As far as the words go, just some of the ones from this video which are not originally Arabic include Defter (دفتر), Xençer (خنجر), Tac (تاج), and Xiyar (خيار). Feel free to look them up since my goal is not to convince people of the origin of words. I focus on bringing people closer together through what is shared in common!
Follow us on Instagram and vote in the next poll so you can decide what video we should do next! If you live in Toronto and would like to participate in a future video, you can also reach us on Instagram.

Salam, I don't believe it's 39% but yes, modern Persian contains many Arabic words, even though they all have Persian equivalents, in many cases the Arabic loanword is used more frequently. Modern Standard Arabic also contains some Persian words (a lot of them entered Arabic from Middle Persian), but the number of Arabic words in Persian is much higher of course. Thank you and hope you enjoy our future videos as well

It does not surprise me much because modern standart Hebrew has a lot less to do with the original one that people might think. The vocabulary of modern standart of Hebrew is a zionist invention and almost half of its loan words are derived from Arabic, but there is also plenty of Russian in it...after all, many of the early zionists (like Golda Meir) were from parts of the Russian Empire. However, I am quite sure that Arabic loanwords in Hebrew are still a lot more numerous than the others.

There’s a difference between kurds and “kurdistan” the first is an ethnic group in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Turkey and Armenia. While “Kurdistan” is a claimed and disputed territory in northern Iraq. It’s not a separate state or country. And for you as an “Arab” to write “kurdistan” instead of northern Iraq or addressing Kurds as people not a country. Is the same as denying Iraqs sovereignty and Iraqis unity as a nation. I hope it was because of lack of understanding.

I guessed fiil, sa'at, taj, siasat, şîrket/syarika, sifr, muz, and xençer/khanjar. I also guessed the Arabic sentences (az zirafatu-l jamiilatun and kataba at talibu fi daftar). However, In Indonesian (my native language), the word "siasat" and "daftar" more has the meaning of "strategy" and "list" over than "politic" and "notebook", respectively.
I'd also like to add what Meena said about the ta marbuta (ة). Many Arabic loanwords in Malay/Indonesian which contain this letter have been changed to either "-ah" or "-at" to fit the language's phonology. For example words such as abah, adat, barakah, hikayat, hikmah, khianat, khidmat, kiamat, kuliah, musyawarah, malaikat, mahkamah, musibah, nisbah, noktah, syariat, shalat, ziarah, zakat, etc.

Approximately/ Arabic (Taqriban) = Kurdish (nzikay)
Clock/ Arabic (saa) = Kurdish (katzhmer , damzhmer)
Politics/ Arabic (siyasa) = Kurdish (ramyari)
Rooster/ Arabic (dik) = Kurdish (kalasher)
Kurdish are totally different language from Arabic but close to all iranic languages

I understand what you mean. The way Kurdish is spoken, aside from the main dialects, does vary from just one city to another, so you're absolutely right about that. This variance was something I wanted my friend Razgar to elaborate on in the Kurdish/Pashto video, which I think he did a pretty good job on. It is beautiful to discover other cultures. Keep up the great work, Bahador! It is wonderful to see people are communicating and exploring their similarities. Just to point out that the kurdish guy is kurmanji - iranian kurdish. The main kurdish accent is sorani which has way more similarities with arabic and also sounds more arabic rather than persian.

No. The words are a mix, and that is part of the process of selecting them.

If you end up doing Amharic and Kurdish/ Arabic, you could reuse "approximately", "Banana", "Cucumber", "shirket", "book". Not in this video but "sook/ shop" as well. Great videos, keep them coming
