  • The fall run is in full swing. Gamefish of all varieties are on the move, creating an abundance of fishing opportunities for boat, shore, and kayak anglers. While the fishing can be outstanding at times, it can also be a bit unpredictable.
Versatility is key when looking for an inshore rod and reel for the fall run. A 7' inshore style fishing rod paired with a 4000 size reel offers the ability to cast light lures a long way, while still having the backbone to handle larger striped bass. This season, the OTW crew has used this combo to successfully target striped bass, bluefish, false albacore, tautog, and black sea bass.

Such a fun setup, looking forward to doing some light tackle togging with it in the near future.

I use my 7ft mojo inshore and a 4000 battle 2. I definitely want to upgrade my reel but it’s still working fine

For the money you can't beat those Mojos.
I have custom rods , Lami's and Century but that 10'6" MOJO is like my right arm.

I enjoyed the coverage and the migration maps you guys did for the Spring run... will you do the same for the Fall run?

Thanks Chris! We aren't planning a fall run update for this year but are thinking about it for the 2022 season. Thanks for watching!

But what rod Is it? He only says 7 ft, no what rod, action etc... and what lb test braid?

    • @OnTheWaterMedia

This is the Penn Battle III combo - the rod is specifically designed by Penn to pair with the Battle III reel. This particular rod is fast action and medium power, and spooled with 20lb braid.

@@OnTheWaterMedia cool, thanks!! If I have a 7 to, med/hvy rod w fast action tip, paired a vs100, spooled w 30 lb braid and 40 lb fluorocarbon leader, is that similar enough to do what the combo here is aiming at? As long as I change the leader to say, 15 lb if going for albies? Or is it better to get a bigger capacity reel?

This is actually the Penn Battle III LE. It has different grips, guides and an Eva crank handle from the normal battle 3 combo.

Could the 6000 size be good for pike and musky
