Nothing comes close to Pink Floyd. Except Zeppelin, these guys were amazing. Pink Floyd can connect with you on so many levels... Emotional, recreational, mentally, spiritually and what not. I remember when I was 16, I smoked a spliff to this very song. Changed my whole view on life completely as during the time I was undergoing a breakup. Pink Floyd has that special something that gets you through anything.
And no doubt developed from early sketches of "Time". There are so many similarities: 1. the two songs are structured the same way 2. the keys are very close 3. the bass/rhythm guitar groove is almost the same 4 the lyrics in both travel from childhood and innocence to understanding of human mortality 5 the lyrics in both end by breaking the fourth wall (if the Breathe reprise is omtted) Far from coincidences if you ask me...
Actually -- gonna disagree with you Mason's playing here. First of all, this is an amazing song, and yes, it is one of PF's most overlooked. HOWEVER -- Mason inadvertently uses a "shuffle" timing on some fills -- where he inserts tom-toms in between the accented set of chords which end the verse, G major, D major, A minor. The song clearly has a "straight 16th note" feel -- listen to the very beginning, where there's the keyboard and very subtle beat (I think it's either a guitar low E, or a bass), that is very obviously a straight row of 16th notes. Also, listen to Dave's rhythm playing during the verse -- also very straight, if slightly syncopated, 16ths. By applying a "swung" feel in those fills, Mason makes the beat indeterminate -- and this is problem of sub-division You can't insert triplets into a song that has already been subdivided as straight 16ths. You might be able to do it if the subdivision were only 8ths, or quarters, but not when the beat so clearly insists on straight 16ths. The listener's ear isn't sure if this is an attempt to "drag" the rhythm, or compress it. In fact, what's funny, is that in some of those "fills," he actually gets the 16th sub correct -- and it sounds much cleaner, and more rhythmically "alert," or "tense" (which is what you want). Fills should push a song from section-to-section, not distract from its progress. I realize some people will say, "this is all a matter of feel." Sorry, nope. It's just incorrect. Okay -- let the flame war begin.
Childhood's End (Gilmour) 4:31 You shout in your sleep. Perhaps the price is just too steep. Is your conscience at rest If once put to the test? You awake with a start To just the beating of your heart. Just one man beneath the sky, Just two ears, just two eyes. You set sail across the sea Of long past thoughts and memories. Childhood's end, your fantasies Merge with harsh realities. And then as the sail is hoist, You find your eyes are growing moist. All the fears never voiced Say you have to make your final choice. Who are you and who am I To say we know the reason why? Some are born; some men die Beneath one infinite sky. There'll be war, there'll be peace. But everything one day will cease. All the iron turned to rust; All the proud men turned to dust. And so all things, time will mend. So this song will end.
I want this song played at my funeral. It's such an impactful song for me. My dad played pink floyd while I was growing up, he was an abusive person. tried to leave my family multiples times and successfully did in 2019, still picks up my sisters every weekends though. I'd rather not come over. Covert narccisist, it's saddening to me. I'll never have any other dad, you know? All my memories as a 6-7 year old were my dad playing DSOTM in the car, the desert-like surroundings, Oman, we lived there for a year because he had an english teaching job there. Growing up, now I just remember how sad I was, but still even until now I've loved pink floyd and have always listened to them. I don't listen to the wall or dsotm/WYWH anymore even though it's what I'd always come back to. It's what I listened to at 13-15 while I was really in a lot of agony when all my repressed memories of child abuse came back. I really spiraled and saw no way out of it, really wanted to die every day and harmed a lot. Never got any therapy, but I'm 16 now. I found this song last year, and it's the one song that feels like me the most. The feeling that childhood was really taken from your hands and just having to live with it. The message from Pink Floyd has always been rather existential which is what I really enjoy, but this one resonates with me the most. I've always thought of death, life, humans, I don't know but just philosophical related things. Piecing things together in my own head about how I feel about the world. It also feels freeing, because it wasn't a song my dad showed me. It's my song, the one song I can call my own in my head.
I couldn't agree more! Anything before Revolver by Beatles is really quite meh (imo) and Rolling Stones, well Rolling Stones is good, really good, but nothing compare to Pink Floyd! Pink Floyd is so much more rich than most of these other classic rock bands! While other classic rock bands were busy writing songs mostly about romantic loves, sex, drug, women, Pink Floyd always wrote songs like Matilda Mother, Corporal Clegg, Point Me At The Sky from the beginning! I mean even before making commercially successful albums like DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall.
Well, I would say that with "Meddle" gave a radical change in the sound where David began to express themselves musically hundred percent, however since I discovered them I changed all my listening dynamics in music.
Some original Pink Floyd 35mm film footage went up in the vault fire a few years ago, so they probably decided just to get out to the public what they had to prevent another total loss.

The immortal band, immortal music for all ages. Pink Floyd: Thank you for all those lovely years we spent listening to your music; we still do. We love you individually and together.

Pink Floyd changed my life for the first time 35 yrs ago, yet I can put the same songs on today, and they still somehow change me. Pink Floyd rules, eternally...
Pink Floyd is the best band ever. Their songs are amazing! Lyrics have so much meaning and are just...no words. Music-just Pink Floyd. And the videos... I don't even know what to say... This is real music and this is what people should listen
Holy crap. Thanks to Jackson and Iddins for helping make this fantastic remaster. Usually I can barely tell the difference between a remaster and the original, but you definitely can here.
"Obscured by Clouds" is the most magical albums of Pink Floyd... Everything about this album is magical... every sound, every beat, just everything... Every song in this album is a rare gem... It's just magical...
Well pink flyod deserves to be the top as everyone in the band plays their role incredibly as singer David also plays guitar everyone done wonderful work in the history of modern music ever 👏👏👏👏👏💯💕💕💕
What a great track and loved the new/old video of the band back in those early years. David Gilmour's guitar just jumps out at you. PINK FLOYD is like no other.
Great composition. I don't understand when a Floyd fan says that this or any other track is underrated; there is no Pink Floyd album or song that is underrated. I love everything they did and of course they are the greatest band of all time.
Pink Floyds facebook page was asking fans what they wanted to hear just before David Gilmour went on the road with 'Rattle That Lock.' Although the survey obviously had no say in the setlist it was interesting to see this track mentioned a few times - I think I also suggested this one - a genuine Gilmour masterpiece from someone who always claimed he couldn't write a decent song alone. I wonder if the survey had any bearing on the attention lavished here. A great mix on an excellent track. I have always said Floyd fans shouldn't talk about 'Obscured...' because it's so good we should keep it to ourselves!!
How can we hear the same song over so many years. So many times. And still feel it. I cant think of other things we do so much. And have the same reaction.
I Love this Masterpice! I Love the füll Album! Obscured by Clouds!! I Like all Pink Floyd Albums! Pink Floyd is one Off the realy great parts in my Live! Best of best! Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❣️
This sounds like a '60s song, because Vietnam. I also read in a Pink Floyd book that the inspiration for "Childhood's End" was based off a book. I also got a shirt ten years ago that said "Pink Floyd Rainbow Theater 1972." with my first guitar. Thank you for service to music, Boomers. I listen to everything old and new but music before my time is quite inspiring .
1. Somehow, they've made it sound like it belongs to "The Wall". Guess is the delay effect on the vocals. Kinda cool, actually. And that's quite a crispy snare sound there too. 2. Didn't like what they did with the guitar solo. They've added some chorus effect wich sounds a bit fake for this ears (maybe too acostumed to the dry sound of the solo in the original version). 3. The video is quite neat. Loved to see that really old footage restored in glorious HD. Anyway, the "animation" on the guitar solo part was too 90's for me (felt like something more in line with Nirvana or a R.E.M. album cover design) Conclusion: having that two little details apart, I quite liked the video. I really enjoyed it.
I've loved Pink Floyd for decades & I've noticed how the band almost always has you wait as they slowly approach their sound. It's an amazing feeling - - - never known of another group to do this. From albums w/Syd toThe Wall (especially on Wish You Were Here) there's always anticipation.
Having been a Pink Floyd fan since 1968, the first thing I noticed was how much the Pink Floyd has refined over the many years. Still my favorite band.
As a kid my dad would play obscured by clouds front to back on lp first Pink Floyd my ears ever heard. I remember copying it to a cassette tape and rocking it daily. Opening track is perfect on that album
Always loved this song. Performed it with a band for years. The remix is great. I can hear the hi-hat finally, and the double tracked vocal is more obvious.
I think it was played by David Gilmour on his tour. EDIT: Sorry Wot's Uh... the Deal was the one that was revived by Gilmour on his solo tour. It seems they have played the song (Childhood's End) a couple of times live in 72' and 73'.
+Brian J. Carnevale They played it live somewhat consistently between November 72 and March 73. Shame they didn't play it more because it was amazing live. If you can, seek it out, it won't disappoint. My 2 favorite are from Dec 72 shows in Brussels and Zurich. The St Ouen show is in amazing quality as well. It would last upwards of 12-13 minutes sometimes with a middle section that's not on the record which is vaguely reminiscent of "what shall we do now" The Obscured By Clouds record doesn't get the praise it should, and this song is, to me, the obvious highlight. But you have to remember it was written and recorded in a matter of weeks AFTER they wrote Dark Side of the Moon but BEFORE it was released. They put a considerable amount of work and time into perfecting Dark Side (including playing it in its entirety live for over an entire year before it came out) and as history would have it, you can hardly blame the boys for throwing their lot in on Dark Side.
Going way back, I've always loved this song. The entire Obscured By Clouds album is very good! This song is on that album for those of you who don't. Listen to the entire album and enjoy yourself.

One of my 'All Time Favorite Pink Songs' Growing up in the '60's marked by violent, overwhelming turbulence and tumultuous, passionate upheavals of civil unrest, I, We NEVER IMAGINED living in a era of such reckless abandonment for consequences and frenetic, tempestuous souls marking EARTH. Albeit, I seem to remember my grand-parents saying and feeling the same during the '60s, as I do now that I am rust and near to fading away*-)
Those plus The Gold It's In The... some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and they make choosing favorites hard! For me it always comes down to the mood I'm in. Obscured by Clouds is right up there as an album, in total.
A great song and touching video. There are songs in the Pink Floyd catalogue that are kind of underrated (since there are so many classics) but this is one of my favourite, especially the lyrics and guitar work...
I really think Obscured by Clouds is their most overlooked album. Every single piece of this album is magic.

Holy crap. Thanks to Jackson and Iddins for helping make this fantastic remaster. Usually I can barely tell the difference between a remaster and the original, but you definitely can here.
Obscured By Clouds is underrated as fuck.
Scumbox id put it at number 5 of my favorite Pink Floyd albums behind the big 4, so good
Loved this album...
Honestly i can't believe that this Album sneaked by me. what an idioit!!!
Or at least underrated. Love it.
Not by me :)
absolutely love them releasing official videos of their music, especialy the lesser appreciated ones i love
Floyd, zeppelin, Beatles, stones, and queen cannot be compared, they are all so epic in their own way
One of my all time Floyd faves.
Obscured by clouds is a masterpiece
I love this it's one of David's best songs to capture the feel of the times the early 70s
"Obscured by Clouds" is the most magical albums of Pink Floyd... Everything about this album is magical... every sound, every beat, just everything... Every song in this album is a rare gem... It's just magical...
One of my absolute faves of the Floyd, barr none . . . smooth, raw, hint of Floyds impending doom, sense of irony, and sweer vibe & rythm.... W!!
Paulo Rafael Lamim qual box? Early Years?
Best both studio and live band ever existed
The greatest band that's ever been
This whole album is fire
This is my favorite song and album!! As many have said before me! This is absolutely way overlooked!!
What a song! Obscured by clouds is too much underated.
I love the pink floyd
I’ve ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG! Definitely best song on this great album, and one of the best Pink Floyd songs period. Definitely on the top 10 list!
...great guitarists can show you what a guitar can do. with Gilmour, he can show you what he wants with a guitar. he must be greater..!!
Classic. Fascinating to watch them making their magic in the studio
I am quite overwhelmed by this! I discovered the wonders of Pink Floyd about 2 years ago and this goldmine is still full!
Pink Floyd has so many great albums and so many great songs, it’s impossible to choose a favorite. They are the best
Pink Floyd, the best band ever
Kind of surreal to watch this for the first time after having listened to the song for the last 25 years.
"Who are you and who am I?
To say we know the reason why
Some are born, some men die
Beneath an infinite sky."
My mind is blown. The Pink Floyd Sound.
I love this verse the most 💚
Well pink flyod deserves to be the top as everyone in the band plays their role incredibly as singer David also plays guitar everyone done wonderful work in the history of modern music ever 👏👏👏👏👏💯💕💕💕
What a great track and loved the new/old video of the band back in those early years. David Gilmour's guitar just jumps out at you. PINK FLOYD is like no other.
The guitar! The guitar's lead!!!
This sounds so good. Probably the best remaster of Floyd material I've ever heard. This would top the charts today.
The clarity on this upload is the best ive ever heard this song
a awsome song Long Live Pink Floyd!!!!!!!
Obscured by clouds one of my all time favourite Floyd albums
Quem gosta de Pink Floyd sabe , escuta mil vezes daí só quer escutar mais mil e assim por diante .Maravilha , ótimo áudio , Obrigado .
Ticking away, ,the moments that make up a dull day... Same song...
I regret for neglecting this song for very long time. I think this is my new fav of song.
Hey if you like Pink Floyd should look up The Doublejumps, I think you'll like them
This song sort of snuck up on me one day and it's been in my top twenty ever since.
If they don't play this song at my funeral, I'm not going.
Uhm how can you not attend Ur own funeral I do t think that's how it works
How can we hear the same song over so many years. So many times. And still feel it. I cant think of other things we do so much. And have the same reaction.
Absolute sublime in every sense. No band comes close. Floyd!
Anyone who could possibly dislike this song has no clue what music is.

I remember being so hi on mushrooms and this song took me thru the stratosphere. 1973 I bought this.
I Love this Masterpice! I Love the füll Album! Obscured by Clouds!! I Like all Pink Floyd Albums! Pink Floyd is one Off the realy great parts in my Live! Best of best! Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❣️
David Gilmour’s voice has such a rich quality. I love it! 😎
Anyway, the "animation" on the guitar solo part was too 90's for me (felt like something more in line with Nirvana or a R.E.M. album cover design)
Conclusion: having that two little details apart, I quite liked the video.
One of my favourite Pink Floyd songs
The lyrics are so deep, people fear coming to reality with them.
I just love Pink Floyd, it's the next level
As a kid my dad would play obscured by clouds front to back on lp first Pink Floyd my ears ever heard. I remember copying it to a cassette tape and rocking it daily. Opening track is perfect on that album
Truly awesome song and video! Gilmour's voice hasn't changed a bit.
One of the best music videos of all time. I bow to all who participated in the making of this brilliant piece of cinema
Thank you! i love obscured by clouds! favorite album and a great song!
Wonderful song. My favorite from Obscured By Clouds. I just can´t stop listen to it.
Damn this album is really one of the most underrated albums of Pink Floyd!
Most underrated Album of all time ,tucked in by Meddle and hidden by the dark side of the moon ,and arguments with film companies ,just brilliant
Una de Las Mejores Rolas de Pink Floyd...refleja el sentir adolescente y de protesta en los 70's....Excelente.
Always loved this song. Performed it with a band for years. The remix is great. I can hear the hi-hat finally, and the double tracked vocal is more obvious.
Obscured by Clouds had the bad luck to be the pre-Dark side of the moon album. And this song is the proof.
Fantastic song! Was it ever played live??
I think it was played by David Gilmour on his tour.
EDIT: Sorry Wot's Uh... the Deal was the one that was revived by Gilmour on his solo tour. It seems they have played the song (Childhood's End) a couple of times live in 72' and 73'.
Brian J. Carnevale
Fun fact: The live versions has some sections that contain the precursor to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"
It would last upwards of 12-13 minutes sometimes with a middle section that's not on the record which is vaguely reminiscent of "what shall we do now"
The Obscured By Clouds record doesn't get the praise it should, and this song is, to me, the obvious highlight.
One of my favourites, in the top 5 definitely.
Finally!! This is such an underrated song from such an underrated album. I'm so glad they made it into an hd official music video.
Going way back, I've always loved this song. The entire Obscured By Clouds album is very good! This song is on that album for those of you who don't. Listen to the entire album and enjoy yourself.
This is an underrated album for sure. You can really hear the progression from Meddle to Dark side of the Moon in many f the songs
Love this song! Love Davids vopice so much! Love their music so much! There will never be anything close to Pink Floyd. Greatest
Hey if you like Pink Floyd should look up The Doublejumps, I think you'll like them
You shout in your sleep.
Perhaps the price is just too steep.
Is your conscience at rest
If once put to the test?
You awake with a start
To just the beating of your heart.
Just one man beneath the sky,
Just two ears, just two eyes.
You set sail across the sea
Of long past thoughts and memories.
Childhood's end, your fantasies
Merge with harsh realities.
And then as the sail is hoist,
You find your eyes are growing moist.
All the fears never voiced
Say you have to make your final choice.
Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason wh men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.
And so all things, time will mend.
So this song will end.
This one ☝️ makes me love David Gilmour
Great song and underrated album we used to listen to this all the time in the 70's-80's it prolongs childhood.
Masterpiece
One of my 'All Time Favorite Pink Songs' Growing up in the '60's marked by violent, overwhelming turbulence and tumultuous, passionate upheavals of civil unrest, I, We NEVER IMAGINED living in a era of such reckless abandonment for consequences and frenetic, tempestuous souls marking EARTH. Albeit, I seem to remember my grand-parents saying and feeling the same during the '60s, as I do now that I am rust and near to fading away*-)
Ditto.
this and Wots the Deal makes me wonder why Obscured is so underrated...
Those plus The Gold It's In The... some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and they make choosing favorites hard! For me it always comes down to the mood I'm in. Obscured by Clouds is right up there as an album, in total.
GoDamnWeird I also like Burning Bridges and Mudmen too.
I remember listening to it when I was on cloud 9 one time, and I've been looking for that FEEL ever since, and 50 yrs has passed too
AFTER THIS THEY RECORDED "TIME". THIS IS THE INTRO.
Intro sounds like Mud Men.
Ticking away, the momments that make up a dull daaaay..
The guitar solo is better in Time, IMO
It has the same “ticking” sound as in the intro to time.
This was written half a year after time
A great song and touching video. There are songs in the Pink Floyd catalogue that are kind of underrated (since there are so many classics) but this is one of my favourite, especially the lyrics and guitar work...
