Honestly this really helps me out! I've just taken in a 3yo TB to train for a family member, and he desperately needs some topline built up. They want me to train him to ride, but I want his back to strengthen a bit more before I attempt anything. He's completely different than my Appaloosa, who has a more stock type build and doesn't need any help building muscle lol
My mare recently just starting losing weight out of the blue and her feed schedule has stayed the same for months but she's started gaining weight again slowly so I'm gonna try building some muscle with her this really helped thank you❤
Thank you. I was making sure today when i was riding my pony that her hind hooves were stepping where her front end hooves were. Because she didnt before but thanks so much for this video
Good video to learn how to confirm the top line issues. You should have given lots of examples of how to fix and develop the top line muscle. That’s was really matters!!
I got my horse for free, given to me by the person who taught me how to ride and continues to teach me. He sat in pasture for 6 months before I got him and he’s been back in work for 4 months now, I have been trying so hard to get his top line to look good, he’s on a supplement for muscle growth and just all around health. I have been lunging him every day and riding him just once a week. I lunge over poles, back him, and even go up and down hills frequently with him. I see no difference in his top line through all of this. He’s got pretty sunken in withers and has a little bit of a bump on the top of his butt. I know he can improve but I feel like nothing I have been doing is helping.
your welcome. most horses have tipped pelvises due to psoas pain. in dressage and jumping, they use that part of their back so much, it can over strain. daily check your horses, and run your fingers down their spine. if they flinch, get a chiropractor out, or learn the massage and chiro treatments for yourself. i find i have to do that at least once a week or so, even when i am a saddle maker/fitter, and trainer myself. good stuff to watch. its the first thing i see go out on all horses. eventually after prolonged issues they can get a twisted vertibre, and develop kissing spines. its a real issue we all face as horsemen. thanks for your video. because of dedicated horsemen trying to get the truth out there, we are making a difference. so thanks for doing that.
I have a quarter horse and his go to trot is sort of a cowboy jog. My instructor encourages us do the big stretching down trot. The horsemanship online instructions I watch don’t seem to go there and still trot quit slowly. Is u it t natural for a QH to move this way?
I have a retired horse that I would like to build a topline on. Not for riding just for overall strength. What would you suggest doing if you can’t ride?
Nice video. Could you address other work in hand in addition to poles and hill work for top line. I have a young Warlander 3yrs not broke to ride who has a telescopic head and neck and a short choppy trot. Would like her to step underneath herself more. Could you show some ground pole patterns. Thanks in advance. Love watching you use a rope halter!
Thanks for watching! An upright neck can be tricky to handle. I have a very upright saddlebred/Arabian horse in my training program right now so i am familiar with this struggle. Most horses that are very upright can easily develop a ewe neck (check out my video on this subject: ruclips.net/video/yM86cwYSRC4/видео.html ) It’s going to be important that your Warlander learns how to travel with a high back and relaxed, lower neck after she is started under saddle. A skilled rider can achieve this but it can be tricky. Lifting her back and riding her from back to front will lengthen her strides and decrease her desire to develop that under neck muscle (see my video on this subject: ruclips.net/video/9_PCv6wU_iE/видео.html ) As an unstarted 3 year old though, it’s just important to keep things pretty light and fun. You could also consider some light lunging with long side reins to help show her the way. I will work on putting together a video that goes into more detail on this subject. Don’t be discouraged about her upright neck, the goals you mentioned can certainly be achieved!
Seems like the inset photos were of slightly underweight horses which would, of course, show a kind of hollowed out look of the hind end so I'm not clear about this top line thing.
Ok but a lot of the examples of poor topping development were actually underweight or unfit in general. I think in my case it would be more valuable to see examples of horses that have plenty of condition but are undermuscled. I think with the examples you have it's easy for people to mistake a fat horse as having good topline, where it is fat rather than muscle.
@@DeannaThompsonCorby That’s the thing he really needs more topline and I’m desperately trying. I lunge him over poles in side reins and I do hillwork. He’ll stretch for a second in walk but never anymore. How can I teach him? He’s a typical tense thoroughbred!
@@roisinc8299 8 months late, but if he's very tense, is there a way you can help him relax at all? Like take him on calm trail rides or pony him around from another horse. That way he doesn't have to work hard every time he sees you and can learn to enjoy being ridden. And I know a lot of people frown on treats, but have you tried treat-led stretching? like getting him to lower his head to stretch, bring his head between his front legs, etc. I'd also have his back checked out by a vet/chiropractor! He may be experiencing some pain or stiffness and may not be able to stretch at the moment.
Almost four-year-old you could have him completely trained to do something by then. That horse has the worst confirmation I've ever seen the hindquarter has absolutely no muscling neither does the neck in the withers are high as hell.
Hi Bella. You mustn’t of seen many horses then. This video is excellent. There is muscle there, I have no clue what you are talking about. You are completely 100% wrong and rushing horse always ends badly. At 4 years old, horses have only just finished growing. Stop being rude.
Absolutely clear video, especially the picture comparisons. It has been enlightening, thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and for your comment! ❤️
I think you are wonderful for starting him as a four year old. He's a lucky boy to have such a thoughtful owner.
😍😭😍😭 Thank you! I’m the lucky one, he is a phenomenal horse! ❤️

Thank you ☺️
Please make exercise program in one week thx
My horse is older and has a little sway back and he looks like he has no top line when he really does?
EXCERISE TRAINING TIPS PLEASE, also muscle building tips through stretching
some horses also develop a hunters bump from ill fitting saddles. if the horses croop is relatively flat, it is also indicative of back/psoas pain.
Great input! Thanks!

I agree.
My horse has a terrible top line pleasure Arabian can I get some excercises to help a beginner rider to do??
I used Unflexal Workouts handbooks for that.
HEK lunge and slide are good for conditioning and carriage
Hello mam l m from indian which feed is best for muscle and height increase?
Is the hanoverian really short or is the girl really tall? me is confusion
I’m 5’10” and my horse is 15.2h 😊
Feed, supplements also important.
YAY! Thank you
this is Marnie.........no clue how to change my name :)
this was so helpful 😊
I’m so glad! Thanks for watching! 🤗
@@DeannaThompsonCorbythanks for replying its so nice😁
Plz make a video on" how to grow horse taller" or how to increase its height
😂 I wish that was possible
@@DeannaThompsonCorby is there any chance
michael daniel007 sorry, but no. Horses will grow as tall as their genetics make them. But some horses keep growing until they are around 8 years old!
@@DeannaThompsonCorby 👍
My horse 3 years old has narrow chest, any exercise for developing his chest?
I wouldn’t be concerned about anything being small on a 3 year old. Let him grow and don’t worry about it. 😊
Deanna Corby thanks
So is a Hunter’s bump an indication that they are not using their back muscles?
Where is his brand?
He’s not branded. 😊

Begin with the psoas. Topline improves faster.
I could really use some advice on my 7 year old gelding
The problem is is that my horse won’t stretch down :((
