Debut album 'Oh Boy!' out late October 2016.
“One of the most important voices of our time … Definitely a major artist of the French school,” is how the young mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa has been described by Marc Minkowski. The distinguished conductor, something of a mentor to Crebassa, collaborates with her on her debut album, 'Oh Boy!', recorded in Salzburg with the Austrian city’s Mozarteum Orchestra.
Six of the arias on the album are by Mozart - and all 16 tracks are taken from operas which feature a mezzo-soprano in a so-called ‘trousers role’, playing the part of a young man.

Le célèbre chef et quelque peu mentor de la jeune mezzo-soprano dirige son tout premier enregistrement , Oh Boy!, réalisé à Salzbourg avec l’orchestre du Mozarteum. L’album parcourt le répertoire mozartien et l’opéra français où une mezzo-soprano interprète des rôles masculins - d’où le titre « Oh, Boy !» Six airs extraits d’opéras de Mozart côtoient des airs de Chabrier, Gluck (arrangement Berlioz), Gounod, Massenet, Hahn, Meyerbeer, Offenbach et Thomas, dans un programme qui offre une mélange d’airs populaires et de raretés

I´ve heard many interpretations of Ms Crebassa on RUclips. But this is the one I come back to more often. Such a pure, angelic voice...heavenly...!

Absolutely superb! Marianne never disappoints¬ Perfection!
A voice that stands tall above the rest, especially in ensemble works. I just discovered her tonight (12 26 19) listening to the Christmas Concert from Vienna. She's a mezzo soprano that we will hear a lot more of. Please record some genuine classics while that voice is in its prime.

I find it so cute the way she covers her ears while singing
Agn ès It is so she can focus on how her voice sounds, since they are recording; in a regular recording studio a singer will wear headphones to hear themselves better. It also helps to mute the background sounds (in this case, the orchestra) so singer can deliver a flawless performance on the recording.

My teacher at the conservatory says that is not professional so I can't do that and I must learn to keep singing without getting lost and without putting my hans there. :/ idk

Ana Gabriela but this is a very different situation to performance, she’s right in the middle of the orchestra, with sound from all directions, in a concert performance she’d be in front of the orchestra, in a stage performance the orchestra is in the ‘pit’ both much less distracting.
Her voice is SO rich. Beautiful timbre and the power must be ringing out across that auditorium. Wonderful singer.

why does she do that with her hands? Not complaining, just curious. I have the recording of her with Sabine Devielhe (spelling?) doing "The flower duet." Utterly sublime.
I would say that it is to hear less the musical instruments that are closer to her, like the winds in the back, and thus have a better understanding of all the instruments as a whole and her own voice.
First of all I think her diction is fine.
Second - Unpopular opinion:
As someone who went to school for opera, I just do not think PERFECT diction at all times is really that big a deal. It's fucking opera where singers have to modify vowel and placement to make proper and healthy sounds. It is not always going to be the just the right vowel and consonant. PERIOD. Not only that but unless it is in the native language of the country it's being performed in, there will always super-titles or a program with translations. All these youtube critics are so funny to me. Do any of you have an album coming out with a major label? No? Exactly. :)

Actually i am French and so is she. Her diction is just as it should be while singing. And while you're nitpicking, you're missing this really beautiful rendition of this beautiful Aria.

Le timbre est magnifique mais on ne comprend rien...
La voix est belle, cependant, elle pourrait l'être beaucoup plus avec une technique moins canalisée. Par le manque de flexibilité, la voix s'enferme dans un carcan et restitue un bouillon de sons qui saoule très vite. Il est grand temps qu'elle fasse une démarche pertinente auprès d'un Maître de chant qui sache la diriger sans tabou. Mais aujourd'hui cette denrée est rare ! Bonne chance à cette artiste qui possède tant de qualités ...

Très beau timbre mais diction impossible. On dirait une bulgare qui chante en phonétique.
romondesbert entièrement d'accord. le (magnifique) texte est entièrement désincarné qui plus est et le vibrato trop présent. Beaucoup de manières pour un résultat presque décevant.
Que celui qui se prétend capable , à l'écoute , à l'oreille , sans le connaitre par coeur , de transcrire sans se tromper le texte des "Nuits d'été" , du "Duo des fleurs" , " de l'air du toréador , de quelques mélodies françaises , chanté(e)s par une Française , une Allemande , une Russe ou une Américaine , lèvent le doigt ...
La diction !..... Foutez la paix à Marianne svp

Je crois que ces chanteurs lyriques ont des profs presque centenaires qui ont l'habitude de rouler les "r" dans l'opéra français des 19me et 20me siècle.
Roberto Alagna ne le fait pas depuis ses débuts, Natalie Dessay ne le fait plus depuis longtemps, Jaroussky ne l'a jamais fait sauf dans le baroque bien sûr mais presque tous les autres continuent à le faire. C'est horrrrrrible et ça donne l'impression que l'Opéra est dans un carcan vieillot et démodé ! Dans le baroque français, toute la prononciation change, le "r" est roulé et la prononciation est dite "restituée" de l'époque. C'est très différent.

C'est bizarre que tu entendes les "vibratos exacerbés" ; je déteste les vibratos et je trouve qu'elle n'a pas de "vibratos exacerbés" - elle fait des melismes, des petites ornementations et son vibrato s'entend en fin de phrase quand la note est tenue. Enfin, c'est intéressant de constater combien l'oreille est subjective. Salut à toi !

Beautiful, but the hands over the ears thing is distracting.
They are recording for an album, so it's not as if she is singing in front of a paying audience.
Take eyelids and move them down until completely closed. No distraction.
