Here's the major difference no one talks about, support.
Valve is pouring support into the Deck, 3rd parties are pouring support onto the deck, hardware and software are being optimized for it.
    Aya and One X?
They don't even support their current product, they are too busy and focused on making another one that they will abandon as soon as it's available to buy.

Valve is the only company that was big enough to push PC handhelds into a consumer-based population at a consumer-based price. Like it or not, they've lit up the portable market as a huge success. If you want to spend $1500 on a handheld to get 10 more frames than the SD, that's on you. But make sure you thank Valve on your way out the door.

The fact that the steam deck is NOT Windows based is a selling point. You're having to battle so much resource consumption for shit you're not using on Windows, and Windows is just not designed for this kind of platform. The Steam Deck is designed for this experience from the ground up, and it can still be used as a full-fledged pc, which I use mine for. Besides, it's not like you cant install Windows on it... If you really feel like categorically ruining the experience lol
Not to mention the cost of Windows contributes to these other devices' cost.

My wife has an Ally which was a lot pricier but still, the price we paid was reasonable and no more than a console. She uses it like a tablet and for gaming.

My friend got a Steamdeck a while ago and he just uses it as a standalone pc, it runs nearly every game on the steam store great, even ones that aren’t verified. He has two monitors hooked up to it with a keyboard and mouse, he also uses the integrated microphone on calls and it sounds great. It runs just as good as a mid to high end gaming pc, even with windows booted onto it with an external drive, and it is a beast when it comes to emulating, you can run virtually any console game on it, better than the console that it’s made for can. And again this is on a computer that’s not even made to be a standalone pc, for around $600 (that’s including more separately bought storage).

In fact, i wish the back buttons were doubled for a total of 8 (4 for each hand), all programmable, and then i just train myself to recognize which buttons are which. Would essentially give you 1-8 number button functionality for many PC games.

You also can install Windows via dual boot if you want both systems and from there you could use Windows Marked place or play games that can’t run on Steam OS because of anti cheat like Overwatch 2.
