After this try the glitch again. Sometimes you may have hostile memebers in the group and waiting ingame may reset that. Second, make sure to high a good karma level. This may prevent Casdin from attacking you. Lastly, start a temporary new save game and try the glitch as soon as you leave the vault. If it works then this means something in your original game is stopping the glitch from working I hope the above steps help.
@@josephkurtz2410 After performing the glitch, you should have none yourself but your inventory will be glitches and will have the same amount that you did the glitch with.
If you start the glitch with a higher number of scrap metal, when you go to Walter in Megaton to trade scrap metal for XP and Caps, he will give you larger amounts of XP and Caps. For example, if you triggered this glitch starting with 32 scrap metal, Walter will give you somewhere around 300 XP and 300 caps each time you select "Just take all the scrap metal I have"..
Hey John, your absolutely correct. To make the steps in the video simple, I decided to go with a low number but high enough to warrent actually trying it out. But, you are spot on my friend, the more scrap metal you have, the better the XP and Caps that Walter gives you. This is sort of why I made a dedicate video on how to get Scrap Metal in Fallout 3. I'm trying to do it with 60... Is it not working because some of the scrap metal is stolen??? *[Later]* Since I had 60 I was only pickpocketing 15 at a time to make it easier, just use a stealth boy because it wont work that way.

These videos feel like old RUclips. Like coming home from middle school and looking up cheat codes for your favorite games on RUclips and being excited about testing it out the next time you launched the game. Like GTA San Andreas or Elders Scrolls Oblivion.
Take note that obtaining any scrap metal afterwards will get rid of the glitch. So get as much out of the scrap metal as you can, or be careful not to pick up any scrap metal. Edit: Later on you can pickpocket Casdin again, so you can just hand over the doubled scrap back to him (keeping 2 of course), then fail the second pickpocket to reset the glitch. I figured I'd mention this in case anyone didn't.

@@TheDragon1276 a little note to add any ghost scrap metal you traded to cassdan during the glitch will actually create it in his inventory when you return to repeat the glitch as items you can take back in the future almost practically making picking up the limited scrap in the wasteland redundant since the glitch duplicates it physically...if only this could somehow be done with stealthboys lol..but it should work with alien power cells too since you can trade those in but haven't tried it yet.
Crazy, after all these years I never heard of this glitch. Just started this game over for probably the 10th time, and this glitch is perfect for keeping me interested after so many play-throughs. Thank you for a very brief and concise video.
No problem at all. I think after anyone has played a game so many times it's totally ok to expedite the leveling process a little so that you can jump into the nitty gritty of the game. I'm happy that my vidoe was able to help out, many thanks for your feedback also.
@MF BOO It's a pretty awesome glitch. I usually set this up early in the game and then just play the game as normal and not worry about my levels at all. When I need a boost, I make a quick visit to Walter and job done. 😄👍

Btw if you wait a week after getting caught pickpocketing you can steal from him again. So if you give him 1000 invisible scrap you can pickpocket it off him and re-enable the glitch with the 1000 scrap and a ridiculous amount of xp and money/good karma. But a couple hundred should do. But don't forget to disable the glitch before pickpocketing him again by picking up a piece of scrap somewhere.
Hey G Man, thanks for your comment buddy. I had no idea about that. I usually keep the glitch active and use it as a one stop XP shop. Just want to make sure, are you saying that if the glitch does not work first time then it will after waiting a week in game?
@@TrappedInFallout sorry for late response but basically after waiting a week you can pickpocket him again after he gets mad at you. It resets the"this person has already caught you pickpocketing" So theoretically you can do this as many times as you want if you wait a week. And if you pick up any scrap anywhere the glitch is disable so instead of pickpocketing the scrap which disables the glitch. Disable the glitch first so you can just pick pocket the 1000 scrap and start at the first pickpocket and give him all but 2 and get caught. If that makes sense.
@@gmanthegrey Yeap, that totally makes sense. You can reset the glitch and sometimes it's worth resetting so that you can use more scrap metal to get more XP in return.

@@TrappedInFallout I play Fallout 3 on my Xbox Series X and on my phone using the Gamepass app. The save files transfer back and forth fine. Just DON'T pick up another piece of scrap or the glitch will stop working.

Note, Make sure you do this with 12 scrap metal, i tried with a different even number (4) and it didn't work, also if he turns hostile fast travel away and fast travel back then re-pickpocket, worked for me

Ok so i did some exhaustive testing and i think i MIGHT have found a solution. What i did was starting a new game when i exited Vault 101 i first went to Rivet City to get the INT Bobblehead(i run 9 INT so 10 with that bobblehead). Then i fast travelled back to Vault 101 and went in the direction of Tenpenny Tower to go to the Robco Facility nearby. Tinker Joe sold 10 Scrap Metal on 2 different spawns. Then walked in to the Robco place took the first right and picked up 2 more metal from the conveyor belt. Walked straight to Fort Independence and the glitch worked. I was about the same level as i was on my other lone wandered who i wrote could not get Casdin to take back the metal. The ONLY difference between that run and the run where the glitch worked was that i never entered Megaton. To be honest i noticed i put in a wrong perk on my first run and since it was 3 hours in i decided to just scrap it. But yes with the path i did above the glitch works flawlessly. Im suprised if not entering Megaton is what really did it but knowing Bethesda's coding prowess it would not be that suprising i suppose. Anyways thanks for your video and allowing me to play a old gem from back in the day but without the whole levelling bs.
Hi Thestovie, thanks so much for your really detailed steps. It's a great theory but sadly I don't think it's the cause. Or rather not in my case anyway. I actaully entered Megaton and completed Walters water leak quest before visiting Casdin. That said it's really interesting how the glitch worked in your game when you did not visit Megaton. The great thing is that the glitch is now confirmed to work on your gaming platform but it's really unfortunate that it does not work on your current game. I’ve almost finished NV. You’ve made my first NV playthrough amazing and relaxing and now my first FO3 playthrough will be too. I also thank Bethesda for making such broken games 😂

Glitch still works... What OP said in the comments about sleeping/waiting 72 hours does do the trick if he keeps going hostile on you.. another thing.. for some reason, no matter what i did, i could not get this to work if my scrap quantity ended in anything but a 2. So i recommend dropping some until you have a quantity that ends in 2

@bs_shifty_4207 It can be very tricky and sometimes the game just does not like it and as a result casdin attacks. Casdin might be hostile towards you and if that is the case then waiting for 72 hours in Megaton can sometimes help. Did you try that?

@@tiegom4ximus not 100% sure but you were most likely caught pick pocketing him and or have bad karma so the NPCs are quicker to violence. Just a guess though
The reason Cassidy turns hostile towards your character is because you've probably stolen something and gained bad Karma. In my first playtrough on XSX (since years) I spend quite some time in Megaton, stealing stuff, scrap metal aswell. I broke into houses and what not. Even with Super Good Karma, Cassidy would attack me when I wanted to trigger the Glitch. So once the game registers you stealing something or gaining bad karma in any way it's over. Cassidy will turn hostile towards you. I started a new character, picked up the clean scrap metal in Vault 101 and went to RobCo Facility. There I bought some from Joe, went into the Facility and picked up some more clean scrap metal. There is no required number for the Glitch to work. It only has to be even (as Cassidy takes two at the time) But the higher your initially posessed scrap metal is, the more XP you will get from Walter. Let's say you began with 50 and do the glitch. Once you go to Walter and trade in all the Scrap Metal, he will give you caps and xp worth the 50 scrap metal. To repair the pipes you need 30 repair so I recommend having enough points invested into repair from the beginning. I"ve tried this with two more characters and it always worked. Just to be sure. Ive done third character. Went out of Vault 101 and stole something in Megaton gaining bad karma. Than went to RobCo to get the scrap metal and when trying to perform the glitch Cassidy would get hostile towards me. So these are the true steps : 1. Play intro 2. Leave Vault 101 3. Travel to RobCo Facility 4. Buy scrap metal from Joe (if hes there) 5. Collect Scrap metal from the first area (dont bother going into the second area) 6. Go to cassidy and perform the glitch. And don't gain bad karma in any way. It's ok to gain bad karma when stealing the scrap metal back from Cassidy the first time undetected. And its ok to gain bad karma the second time when he needs to catch you. Once the glitch works you can give him infinite scrap metal. The fun part is when you travel away, wait three days and come back. He will have all the scrap metal that you gave him on him. So you can just steal it back from him. Give it to him, than steal it back again without getting caughed. Than give him the scrap metal until you are left with only two and get caught. He wont turn hostile as you"ve never stolen something until this point except from him. Ive dont this with 1K scrap metal (choosing the dialogue options take half an hour and you DO NOT want to mess it up when giving it back to him a second time) 100% works.

It still works as now June 4th 2024. From what I experienced. I started the game stealing everything without getting caught getting bad carma. Got it up by giving purified water. Still by getting bad karma you'll get attacked when caught. Then I restarted without stealing anything. Collected 12 clean not stolen scrap metal & it worked. Just my observation.
@@ShaneMi Holy, now that is something that I never thought about i.e. your companion killing Casdin. Ah that sucks. But going back, did you manage to get the glitch to work?

when i first did it, i didn't see any scrap metal i turned in while pickpocketting, some mods apparently patch this so you need to disable your mods if you want to do this

Did this after Operation Anchorage and when spamming the infinite scrap metal glitched I pulled the 32786 glitch where I dropped it and it goes to a negative number from New Vegas and it legit works as well. Got 32786 caps from Walter every time

If you have already done the Operation Anchorage DLC then this will likely not work due to the outcome at the end of it (outcast conflict). Because you had a negative interaction with Outcasts, the game probably remembers, and Casdin will turn hostile when you pickpocket.
Ah that's a very good point and perhaps a great explanation why the glitch does not work later on. I do suggest to many who face issues to do a temporary restart and see if it works and for the most part it does. So chances are that your theory is spot on, thanks so much for sharing.
Well I disagree. I already did the anchorage dlc, and after that I went to do the glitch, they didn't attack me I was able to do the glitch no problem. The 2 characters in the anchorage bunker are still alive, only the attackers died. So you can do the glitch. I'm playing on Xbox 360, goty with newest patch.
@@tobiaswehner6836 That's really interesting, in a sense that rules that theory out in the sense that it certainly has worked for at least one person. Still makes me think at what point the glitch does not work anymore. It certainly works in a new game so it must be some event in the game that causes it to stop working. I don't think it's random otherwise it would not always work on a new game.
@@TrappedInFallout well what im thinking is, that maybe depending on how far you are in the story, maybe when you work closer with the brotherhood it doesn't work anymore, I'm at the point of the story just after meeting Dr. Li. So maybe that's why it still works for me. Maybe that helps to narrow it down to find out when it stops working. It definitely has nothing to do with the anchorage dlc, the outcasts there don't all turn hostile only the few that don't want let us get a reward. But I will test it further, when I'm further into that playthrough I will attempt the glitch again at a few points of the story and I will post another comment right here. I've been playing fallout 3 for a long time and just started replaying it and had no clue this glitch was a thing! XP, Stimpaks, Ammo and Caps will no longer be a issue no more!
Nope they will never be an issue. It's an awesome glitch, perhaps one of the best one available in the game. It pretty much sets you up for the entire game and you can use this glitch as your one stop shop for XP and more.

Am I the only one to have this problem? When I steal the scrap metal minus 2 and get caught willingly, Casdin always turns hostile. I read somewhere that I can leave and come back to him a couple days later and he won’t be hostile anymore. That worked, but the infinite scrap metal glitch doesn’t work.. am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Hi Gabriel, sorry to hear about your issue. I'll try my best to answer your question. Casdin will usually turn hostile towards you if you have bad karma or if you have in the past attack an Outcast solder and were caught. In terms of the glitch not working when your away, as long as your doing the fulls step after leaving and coming back then it should work. Areas in the entire game are divided into cells and when you leave and enter a cell, parts of the cell are reloaded. So if you leave Casdin and come back, you may have reset the cell. Yes of course, do try to leave and come back and perform the full steps. Also, if you have low karma, try to increase it to 'good' and try again to see if that helps. If hope my reply helps to answer your question Gabriel. Stay safe my friend 👍.
@@varietygaming33 Hey Enclave, I'm sorry to hear that. The only other reason would be your current status agains the Enclave. If they find you hostile for any reason then this will break the glitch. Have you tried to wait in another area (like Megaton) and try again? Hopefully if you have not and give that a try then it may resolve the issue. Let me know how it goes my friend.
@@TrappedInFallout this is my first play through and I’m only using the glitch a little bit to progress, but next play through I will probably use this glitch to get to the highest level ASAP and then wreak havoc upon the capital wasteland lol
If you use the glitch and keep giving him scrap, you can then take all of it from his inventory and do the glitch again to obtain more scrap and increase the amount of caps and xp
So I think this got updated because now after the setup it just lets you steal your scrap back without retaliation, but I can't get him to take it back for the glitch to actually start

@@super63930 Ah interesting. This glitch has a tendency to work better the earlier it is performed during a gameplay. The only other thing I would suggest sibthat you quickly start a temporary new game ensuring that your current game is backed up with a save. And see if you can perform the glitch on the new save. If you can then your game state is effecting the glitch otherwise it may be that the glitch simple does not work in your game. That said although I can't personally confirm, others I think have confirmed in the comments section that it has worked for them on their PS3. Sorry Osama but do let me know how it goes.
For anyone reading this I highly suggest that every time you visit Casdin and you get the amount of supplies you want by using the glitch you make a save afterwards directly next to him to go back to. There is a glitch in the game where Casdin can randomly come up dead either by the building or close by the initial raider attack when first discovering Ft Independence. It's a glitch that can randomly happen and for console users there's no way to resurrect npc's unlike pc players with console commands. I would like to add a couple more things that I've noticed one being that sometimes regardless of how much scrap you give casdin and try to get it back he will be hostile. Secondly I've noticed that if the player attacks any scouting parties or they die by some other way i.e deathclaw,raiders and the player is near by it can count as if the player attacked the scouting party which can keep casdin hostile regardless of trading in enough scrap and getting the prompt that the player is friendly with the outcasts.

Thank you for this, perfect instructions. Still works completely fine on PS4 classic games catalogue (PS3 Version). Sometimes Walter won't award XP, you just need to exit dialogue with him and talk at a later time.

When Protector Castin catches me pickpocketing him, he aggros to me and only takes back the 10, I still have two Scrap Metal left, so it didn't work for me.
Sorry to hear that. This glitch tends to work better earlier it's performed in a playthrough. Also, you can try sleeping in Megaton for 72 in game hours and then trying again to see if that helps.

My karma is already at "last best hope for humanity" so I think I deserve a money and xp glitch 😊 I'm nearly done with completing the game so I've done everything legitimate up to now! Also, i did complete the game back in 2008 but thought id come back for the memories! So much nostalgia 😊🎉
I feel exactly the same way every time I boot up the game and give it a play. Some of my play sessions is just me randomly walking around, exploring, reading terminals etc.
@TrappedInFallout There's something about fallout 3 for me that I can't explain. The game is so old and the graphics are way out of date but I actually love that about the game. It was so well made it doesn't need next flashy gen graphics to still be playable in 2023. The lack of colour, the music and the general atmosphere is what brings me back time and time again. Theres something so peaceful about the game that i cant explain. I have Fawkes too so that always helps let's be honest 😂 living on easy street!

In my current game, I’m level 24, and I have 2,241 speech successes, but I had never been to Fort Independence until today. It was not a location on my map, and I got to see the raiders attacking for the first time. I just tried this glitch, and it isn’t working for me at all. Like someone else mentioned, it may have to do with the perception of the NPC. I wish someone had a definitive answer as to why so many people are experiencing problems. I’m on Xbox Series X, and my saves were from a previous console, although I’m not sure which. My guess is Xbox One X. I’m also curious where those speech successes are from. Is there another speech glitch in the game?
Thanks for your comment. There are no other speech glitches like this in FO3, this is it's only London as far as I know but I will double check and see. To be honest there are just too many variables as to why this happens. This works on a new game usually and tends to stop working the later you try to perform the glitch in the game. If you look through the comments, I suggest that you sleep on Megaton for 72 in game hours and then return with good karma. For some it worked and for others it did not, for the many tmdid not respond with a it worked or not so I would assume folks who have not responded probably saw that working for the most part. But in short there is not 100% fix when this glitch is not working or stops working.
Try waiting in Megaton for 72 in game hours and then going back to Casdin today again. Sometimes he becomes hostile and doing this can reset his state.
Alright, so sadly I did have to reset my game on the side and try this again and it WORKED!!!! Thank you so much!. Now I can max out my stats and skills before level 30!!! I must've did something to piss off the Outcast Brotherhood previously. Again, Thank you!!!!!
No problem at all, I'm happy that it worked for you. Yeah, as you can now see there are factors in the game that effect the chances of pulling off this glitch but since it could be anything it's so hard to pin down the reason. This is why I suggested that if you have your heart set on using this glitch, start a new game and try again. Still, given the glitch, you probably will be able to hit level 30 relatively quickly. Just make sure to never pick up any more scrap metal as it will reset it. Oh and don't blow up Megaton for obvious reasons.
@@TrappedInFallout Yeah I noticed lol. Within a 2 - 2 1/2 hr time frame, I went from restarting the game to doing the glitch to get myself to be level 17. With the Megaton bomb, I defused it lol. I like good karma not bad. Only time I'm doing that is if I'm achievement hunting and I'm not doing that right now lol

Had to restart from when I tried to do this a few hours ago, I had played for too long and went past neutral karma. Restarted, got more scrap metal like 40 (buying it from tinker joe at Robco and raiding robco for abt 15 scrap) then did the glitch and it works today! MAKE sure that you do this early in the game before your karma goes bad, make sure you don’t go past neutral karma, and don’t steal anything till you do the glitch.
Thanks so much for sharing your tip - I basically say the same thing if you look through some of the comments on this video. Doing this early in the game does help alot in terms of actually pulling it off. For some reason the ability to perform this glitch gets harder (even though the steps are exactly the same) the later you do this in the game.
Just popping into say this works amazingly. Great for getting all the level and karma related trophies. Just go to the guy in Megaton when you want to get the xp and farm the exploit till you get to the level right before the trophies earn it, reload then go to the bar as soon as you enter Megaton and use the terminal, farm it till you are neutral and or evil depending on what Karma trophies you need then farm the guy again to level up and get those others. Will keep working with anyone that wants scrap metal or requires scrap metal. Plus this is great cause it will stay working as long as you make sure to never pick up any scrap metal cause then you'll have to redo the glitch. I've loaded the game many times and it still works without me having to do the glitch each time, even worked when I transferred my data and stuff to a different ps3.

How did you manage to run FO3 on PS4? Afaik, there's no download/disc version of the game for PS4. The only option i know is via streaming with PS Now.
Ok, that's a good information. I think they are using the latest patch with their PS3. I'm not a fan of streaming with PS Plus. Never worked properly for me. But it's a funny system. Sony is using real PS3 consoles to provide the data. Till this day, they can't do software emulation of PS3 games. Unfortunately, PS Now only runs the Vanilla Version of Fallout 3. Although the dlc are buggy, they make the game much better. If you have the option, i would suggest changing to PC or Xbox 360 Version (which runs with Xbox One and Series as well).
@@Minuteman_1776 Yeah, I would second and agree with Martin. Playing on PC also has other perks such as being able to use the console commands as well as access to a much larger range of mods from the Fallout modding community. There are some mods out there which alone would warrant a completely new playthrough.
I tried it with 90 scrap metals because It worked with 56 before and now I might've broken them because they keep attacking me when getting caught, or they don't catch me at all and I'm always in "caution" mode when sneaking even before stealing
still doesn't work even after going back to when I first discovered the location, and doing everything with 12 metal and waiting a while so the "cautious" warning would go away, anyways after doing everything at the very end when you're supposed to get caught the bug doesn't work and they all turn hostile against me for some reason and I'm just wondering because I recently connected my xbox 360 to wifi and when I logged in with xbox live account it gave me a update notice and it said if I didn't I would lose my Xbox live on that account, So maybe that was a patch for some bug's? If not then I'll just quickly go and open a different save and do the bug quickly see if it work's there.❤
Sadly this glitch can be temperamental. Personally have found it work first time on new saves and them I tend to not reset. Or I create a save state before resetting just in case it van not be reproduced again.

thanks it worked. i tried to do this on my first save, level 18 completed most if the story and somehow didnt work. made a new save, level 4 with 3 charisma, good karma, only did 5 quests and it worked on x series s.
That's awesome, thanks so much for confirming that it's worked on your side. It's a great glitch and it really helps to level up rather quickly. It's also somewhat easier to do and works well on new games Vs games that have been in progress for some time.
Hi, sorry to hear that your having issues. You can try the following steps and it may help: Firstly, go to Megaton and wait there for 72 in game hours. After this try the glitch again. Sometimes you may have hostile memebers in the group and waiting ingame may reset that. Second, make sure to high a good karma level. This may prevent Casdin from attacking you. Lastly, start a temporary new save game and try the glitch as soon as you leave the vault. If it works then this means something in your original game is stopping the glitch from working I hope the above steps help.

If he does then this usually means that you either have negative karma or you have in the past attack an Outcast member and were caught doing it. I hope this helps to answer your question. @lucascrider3907 Its a fair point. This glitch has a tendency of not working the later you do it in the game. There are some unknown factors that seem to make it very difficult to pull this off.
On my second playthrough and the second time I've done this glitch. First playthrough it worked perfectly, second playthrough their's nothing I can do that won't stop him from turning hostile when he catches me. Good karma, reset at megaton, same device and profile. I'm guessing theirs some unknown factor that makes the glitch not work. Either way good video
Thanks for your comment and feedback. In short, yes. There are some other factors that affect the glitch. Some have found working results after completing the Operation Anchorage DLC but it may also not work for you. It too random sadly.
This glitch doesn't work anymore on Xbox I have Tested it with a Good character with 6 Charisma 10 Charisma and while being friendly with the outcasts tested it on New game tested it on a Neutral and Evil playthrough as well Every time you try getting caught stealing your instantly Attacked and the Outcasts go Hostile tried with and without Stealth boy tried at night and Day even Gave him 40 power armor sets to improve relations yet always Hostile
Sadly this glitch may not work when using in a playthrough that has been going on for some time. I am not sure and have not been able to find the answer but this glitch has a higher chance of working the earlier this is on during a playthrough. If he still turns hostil then chances are some action has happened in the game that has caused it but it would be hard to figure out what that action or event was.
Actually early in the game Doesn't matter either. I restarted a new game and tested it I got 12 scrap as soon as I had left vault 101 And immediately went straight there and avoided as many enemies that could Even that early he still went hostile
I believe it's something to do with the backwards compatibility when you play on Xbox One or if you play on PlayStation from what I read doing a deep dive into research on it. Some of the updates made for backwards compatibility caused a patch for that glitch making him turn hostile every time so it may still work on Xbox 360 but not on the newer consoles
2024 confirmed to still work! I'm on Xbox 360 and gave him a total of 20 scrap. I did the glitch as instructed and checked my inventory and now have infinite amount of (invisible) scrap. Thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉
This doesn't work anymore. Casdin becomes hostile and attacks when you get caught (as you instructed) anyway thanks for the video and blessing those it worked for, wish I knew these things 15 years ago lmao.
It's probably not something you may want to hear but this does work but for some reason it does not work if you do this after playing the game for a long time (not totally sure why). If your able to, try doing this glitch earlier by loading up an earlier save file (ideally just after leaving vault 101) and it should behave better. I hope this helps.
That makes sense I think, I'll give making a new save a shot and update, Thanks for responding so quickly or even at all lol. I'm Just doing the reach level 30 bad neutral good achievements and really don't want to play through everything for the 926,252 time.
Alright it worked.After rushing thru vault and running like a bat outta hell to robco for tinker joe and robco scrap and the stealth boy that in there managed to acquire 20 scrap yadda yadda to fort independence once caught by Casdin the dialog to give scrap pops up immediately, so again Thank you for the video and your advice, Worked like a charm. I guess you may be at a low enough level or the game difficult is high enough for Casdin to be able to take you out. You can try levelling up a little or reducing the game difficulty he Casdin should not be able to take you out as easily. I hope that this helps.
I might do this one to get the karma based achievments. I'm enjoying this game, but I'm not going to play for more than 80 hours to get Level 30 with bad and neutral karma.
Todd Howard truly is the master in the art of developing broken games! My nephew and I were talking about his glitch filled games and the only game I've never seen a beneficial glitch is in ESO lol! The gaming universe needs more Todd Howards
For what's it's worth Todd Howard is an amazing visionary when it comes to game design, scope, depth etc. I just wish that he would have stayed. Sadly he is leaving and his last Bethesda game will be an Elder Scrolls game. I would have loved to seen one more Fallout game from him (an offline one).

Best way to check if this will work is steal from the guy begging for water in megaton if he attacks you it won’t. Reload safe from the vault and try again if he doesn’t attack you it means it will work..
That's sounds like an interesting way of testing to see if this would work. What makes you think that this works in the sense that if he attacks then so will casdin?

What am i doing wrong? I have 18 bottle caps, in get stims for all of them, pickpocket them all back, then do the same thing again but leave two and get caught, and for some reason, i still have 2 left and he judt starts trying to kill me????
There is a chance that he may have become hostile towards you. The best thing to do before doing this glitch might be to go to Megaton and wait there for 72 in game hours. This is to allow his hostility towards you to change.

This glitch doesn’t work if you’re level 8 and stolen a couple items before. My karma is very good, I’m a “protector”. And, when I get caught picking his pocket on purpose, he attacks me.
This still works in June 2024! I used my trusty Xbox 360! A Pro tip: If Protector Casdin isn't catching you when pickpocketing him, take your clothes off...i know it sounds weird and random..BUT thats how it worked for me.

I'm not sure what happened, but I'm unable to find defender Morgan. At first, when I went there, I didn't realize it was them I was looking for, so I talked to them but left, I thought I was supposed to talk to someone else. I passed some time, and went to look for them again, but that's when I realized that it was Morgan I was looking for. But now, whenever I look for them, they're not there?! I fast traveled away from the area a few times, past some time, and yet I can't find Morgan in their post. I'm not sure what to do. I even looked around the base a few times but they wont spawn anymore.
Sadly there is always the chance that any given NPC that your looking for may have been killed out in the wasteland by random creatures or worse may not have spawned at all due to random game glitches. You might be able to confirm by perhaps loading up earlier save games to see but if they don't appear then there is not much you can do sadly.

It totally is and it's even harder to do at a high level. The trick with this glitch is to activate it as soon as you leave Vault 101 which would then give you the ability to level up pretty quickly.
Sometimes Casdin can be hostile towards you. Try going to Megaton and waiting there for 72 in game hours and then try repeating the steps again. Hopefully that helps. If not then checkout the pinned comment in this video for some more tips.
Okay so if you’re struggling with him catching you and he’s trying to kill you I have theory why. As you level up more the more difficult enemies are to kill and also therefore more hostile because their perception is higher. So it could be that higher levels make it not very possible for that reason. As your marked as an enemy and he’s more hostile toward you for that.
I guess so. You do have to do some stuff to get this working and then you also need to go through the motions so it is a grind when you say it like that ha ha.

When you go back to Walter do you have to have scrap metal in your inventory, 1 or 12 or none at all?
Two questions. 1 do I need stealth up or a stealth boy to to make it easier. 2 where can I get at least 30 scrap metal easily?
@@josephkurtz2410 After performing the glitch, you should have none yourself but your inventory will be glitches and will have the same amount that you did the glitch with.
If you start the glitch with a higher number of scrap metal, when you go to Walter in Megaton to trade scrap metal for XP and Caps, he will give you larger amounts of XP and Caps. For example, if you triggered this glitch starting with 32 scrap metal, Walter will give you somewhere around 300 XP and 300 caps each time you select "Just take all the scrap metal I have"..
Hey John, your absolutely correct. To make the steps in the video simple, I decided to go with a low number but high enough to warrent actually trying it out. But, you are spot on my friend, the more scrap metal you have, the better the XP and Caps that Walter gives you. This is sort of why I made a dedicate video on how to get Scrap Metal in Fallout 3. Take note that obtaining any scrap metal afterwards will get rid of the glitch. So get as much out of the scrap metal as you can, or be careful not to pick up any scrap metal.
Edit: Later on you can pickpocket Casdin again, so you can just hand over the doubled scrap back to him (keeping 2 of course), then fail the second pickpocket to reset the glitch. I figured I'd mention this in case anyone didn't.

@@TheDragon1276 a little note to add any ghost scrap metal you traded to cassdan during the glitch will actually create it in his inventory when you return to repeat the glitch as items you can take back in the future almost practically making picking up the limited scrap in the wasteland redundant since the glitch duplicates it physically...if only this could somehow be done with stealthboys lol..but it should work with alien power cells too since you can trade those in but haven't tried it yet.

@MF BOO It's a pretty awesome glitch. I usually set this up early in the game and then just play the game as normal and not worry about my levels at all. When I need a boost, I make a quick visit to Walter and job done. 😄👍

Btw if you wait a week after getting caught pickpocketing you can steal from him again. So if you give him 1000 invisible scrap you can pickpocket it off him and re-enable the glitch with the 1000 scrap and a ridiculous amount of xp and money/good karma. But a couple hundred should do. But don't forget to disable the glitch before pickpocketing him again by picking up a piece of scrap somewhere.

@@TrappedInFallout sorry for late response but basically after waiting a week you can pickpocket him again after he gets mad at you. It resets the"this person has already caught you pickpocketing" So theoretically you can do this as many times as you want if you wait a week. And if you pick up any scrap anywhere the glitch is disable so instead of pickpocketing the scrap which disables the glitch. Disable the glitch first so you can just pick pocket the 1000 scrap and start at the first pickpocket and give him all but 2 and get caught. If that makes sense.
@@gmanthegrey Yeap, that totally makes sense. You can reset the glitch and sometimes it's worth resetting so that you can use more scrap metal to get more XP in return.

I did this with 16 scraps and can confirm that it still works and gives me 140 caps everytime I sell the scrap to Walter.

@@TrappedInFallout I play Fallout 3 on my Xbox Series X and on my phone using the Gamepass app. The save files transfer back and forth fine. Just DON'T pick up another piece of scrap or the glitch will stop working.

Note, Make sure you do this with 12 scrap metal, i tried with a different even number (4) and it didn't work, also if he turns hostile fast travel away and fast travel back then re-pickpocket, worked for me

Ok so i did some exhaustive testing and i think i MIGHT have found a solution.
What i did was starting a new game when i exited Vault 101 i first went to Rivet City to get the INT Bobblehead(i run 9 INT so 10 with that bobblehead).
Then i fast travelled back to Vault 101 and went in the direction of Tenpenny Tower to go to the Robco Facility nearby.
Tinker Joe sold 10 Scrap Metal on 2 different spawns.
Then walked in to the Robco place took the first right and picked up 2 more metal from the conveyor belt.
Walked straight to Fort Independence and the glitch worked.
I was about the same level as i was on my other lone wandered who i wrote could not get Casdin to take back the metal.
The ONLY difference between that run and the run where the glitch worked was that i never entered Megaton.
To be honest i noticed i put in a wrong perk on my first run and since it was 3 hours in i decided to just scrap it.
But yes with the path i did above the glitch works flawlessly.
Im suprised if not entering Megaton is what really did it but knowing Bethesda's coding prowess it would not be that suprising i suppose.
Anyways thanks for your video and allowing me to play a old gem from back in the day but without the whole levelling bs.
Hi Thestovie, thanks so much for your really detailed steps. It's a great theory but sadly I don't think it's the cause. Or rather not in my case anyway. I actaully entered Megaton and completed Walters water leak quest before visiting Casdin.
That said it's really interesting how the glitch worked in your game when you did not visit Megaton. The great thing is that the glitch is now confirmed to work on your gaming platform but it's really unfortunate that it does not work on your current game.

Glitch still works... What OP said in the comments about sleeping/waiting 72 hours does do the trick if he keeps going hostile on you.. another thing.. for some reason, no matter what i did, i could not get this to work if my scrap quantity ended in anything but a 2. So i recommend dropping some until you have a quantity that ends in 2

@bs_shifty_4207 It can be very tricky and sometimes the game just does not like it and as a result casdin attacks. Casdin might be hostile towards you and if that is the case then waiting for 72 hours in Megaton can sometimes help. Did you try that?

This was a godsend made getting the different karma related trophies/achievements so much less annoying 10/10
I know what you mean. The beauty of just being able to take 'short cuts' to be able to get achievements is nice and handy.
The reason Cassidy turns hostile towards your character is because you've probably stolen something and gained bad Karma.
In my first playtrough on XSX (since years) I spend quite some time in Megaton, stealing stuff, scrap metal aswell. I broke into houses and what not.
Even with Super Good Karma, Cassidy would attack me when I wanted to trigger the Glitch. So once the game registers you stealing something or gaining bad karma in any way it's over. Cassidy will turn hostile towards you.
I started a new character, picked up the clean scrap metal in Vault 101 and went to RobCo Facility. There I bought some from Joe, went into the Facility and picked up some more clean scrap metal.
There is no required number for the Glitch to work. It only has to be even (as Cassidy takes two at the time)
But the higher your initially posessed scrap metal is, the more XP you will get from Walter. Let's say you began with 50 and do the glitch. Once you go to Walter and trade in all the Scrap Metal, he will give you caps and xp worth the 50 scrap metal. To repair the pipes you need 30 repair so I recommend having enough points invested into repair from the beginning.
I"ve tried this with two more characters and it always worked. Just to be sure.
Ive done third character. Went out of Vault 101 and stole something in Megaton gaining bad karma. Than went to RobCo to get the scrap metal and when trying to perform the glitch Cassidy would get hostile towards me.
So these are the true steps :
1. Play intro
2. Leave Vault 101
3. Travel to RobCo Facility
4. Buy scrap metal from Joe (if hes there)
5. Collect Scrap metal from the first area (dont bother going into the second area)
6. Go to cassidy and perform the glitch.
And don't gain bad karma in any way. It's ok to gain bad karma when stealing the scrap metal back from Cassidy the first time undetected. And its ok to gain bad karma the second time when he needs to catch you.
Once the glitch works you can give him infinite scrap metal. The fun part is when you travel away, wait three days and come back. He will have all the scrap metal that you gave him on him.
So you can just steal it back from him. Give it to him, than steal it back again without getting caughed. Than give him the scrap metal until you are left with only two and get caught. He wont turn hostile as you"ve never stolen something until this point except from him.
Ive dont this with 1K scrap metal (choosing the dialogue options take half an hour and you DO NOT want to mess it up when giving it back to him a second time)

It still works as now June 4th 2024. From what I experienced. I started the game stealing everything without getting caught getting bad carma. Got it up by giving purified water. Still by getting bad karma you'll get attacked when caught. Then I restarted without stealing anything. Collected 12 clean not stolen scrap metal & it worked. Just my observation.

when i first did it, i didn't see any scrap metal i turned in while pickpocketting, some mods apparently patch this so you need to disable your mods if you want to do this

Did this after Operation Anchorage and when spamming the infinite scrap metal glitched I pulled the 32786 glitch where I dropped it and it goes to a negative number from New Vegas and it legit works as well. Got 32786 caps from Walter every time

If you have already done the Operation Anchorage DLC then this will likely not work due to the outcome at the end of it (outcast conflict). Because you had a negative interaction with Outcasts, the game probably remembers, and Casdin will turn hostile when you pickpocket.
Ah that's a very good point and perhaps a great explanation why the glitch does not work later on. I do suggest to many who face issues to do a temporary restart and see if it works and for the most part it does. So chances are that your theory is spot on, thanks so much for sharing.
Well I disagree. I already did the anchorage dlc, and after that I went to do the glitch, they didn't attack me I was able to do the glitch no problem. The 2 characters in the anchorage bunker are still alive, only the attackers died. So you can do the glitch. I'm playing on Xbox 360, goty with newest patch.
@@tobiaswehner6836 That's really interesting, in a sense that rules that theory out in the sense that it certainly has worked for at least one person. Still makes me think at what point the glitch does not work anymore. It certainly works in a new game so it must be some event in the game that causes it to stop working. I don't think it's random otherwise it would not always work on a new game.
@@TrappedInFallout well what im thinking is, that maybe depending on how far you are in the story, maybe when you work closer with the brotherhood it doesn't work anymore, I'm at the point of the story just after meeting Dr. Li. So maybe that's why it still works for me. Maybe that helps to narrow it down to find out when it stops working. It definitely has nothing to do with the anchorage dlc, the outcasts there don't all turn hostile only the few that don't want let us get a reward. But I will test it further, when I'm further into that playthrough I will attempt the glitch again at a few points of the story and I will post another comment right here. And thank you Mo for the great videos they helped a lot speeding up progress in my I don't know maybe 30th playthrough of fallout 3🙏

I've been playing fallout 3 for a long time and just started replaying it and had no clue this glitch was a thing! XP, Stimpaks, Ammo and Caps will no longer be a issue no more!
Nope they will never be an issue. It's an awesome glitch, perhaps one of the best one available in the game. It pretty much sets you up for the entire game and you can use this glitch as your one stop shop for XP and more.
Im trying to do number 1, everything went fine until i tried to take them back and get caught.. and when i do he tries to kill me every time I do it.

Am I the only one to have this problem? When I steal the scrap metal minus 2 and get caught willingly, Casdin always turns hostile. I read somewhere that I can leave and come back to him a couple days later and he won’t be hostile anymore. That worked, but the infinite scrap metal glitch doesn’t work.. am I doing something wrong? Hi Gabriel, sorry to hear about your issue. I'll try my best to answer your question.
Casdin will usually turn hostile towards you if you have bad karma or if you have in the past attack an Outcast solder and were caught.
In terms of the glitch not working when your away, as long as your doing the fulls step after leaving and coming back then it should work.
Areas in the entire game are divided into cells and when you leave and enter a cell, parts of the cell are reloaded. So if you leave Casdin and come back, you may have reset the cell.
Yes of course, do try to leave and come back and perform the full steps.
Also, if you have low karma, try to increase it to 'good' and try again to see if that helps.

@@varietygaming33 Hey Enclave, I'm sorry to hear that. The only other reason would be your current status agains the Enclave. If they find you hostile for any reason then this will break the glitch. Have you tried to wait in another area (like Megaton) and try again? Hopefully if you have not and give that a try then it may resolve the issue. Let me know how it goes my friend.

If you use the glitch and keep giving him scrap, you can then take all of it from his inventory and do the glitch again to obtain more scrap and increase the amount of caps and xp

So I think this got updated because now after the setup it just lets you steal your scrap back without retaliation, but I can't get him to take it back for the glitch to actually start
This glitch can be a little tricky. Have you followed the steps in the pinned comment. Sometimes the hostility can cause issues with this glitch.

I would like to point I was playing on Ps3 and had maximum good karma so no hostile.
@@super63930 Ah interesting. This glitch has a tendency to work better the earlier it is performed during a gameplay. The only other thing I would suggest sibthat you quickly start a temporary new game ensuring that your current game is backed up with a save. And see if you can perform the glitch on the new save. If you can then your game state is effecting the glitch otherwise it may be that the glitch simple does not work in your game. That said although I can't personally confirm, others I think have confirmed in the comments section that it has worked for them on their PS3. Sorry Osama but do let me know how it goes.

For anyone reading this I highly suggest that every time you visit Casdin and you get the amount of supplies you want by using the glitch you make a save afterwards directly next to him to go back to. There is a glitch in the game where Casdin can randomly come up dead either by the building or close by the initial raider attack when first discovering Ft Independence. It's a glitch that can randomly happen and for console users there's no way to resurrect npc's unlike pc players with console commands. I would like to add a couple more things that I've noticed one being that sometimes regardless of how much scrap you give casdin and try to get it back he will be hostile. Secondly I've noticed that if the player attacks any scouting parties or they die by some other way i.e deathclaw,raiders and the player is near by it can count as if the player attacked the scouting party which can keep casdin hostile regardless of trading in enough scrap and getting the prompt that the player is friendly with the outcasts.
Hi Tangsoo, thanks so much for your detailed comment and for sharing your tip. I play on PC and so far have not seen Casdin appear as a dead NPC so that's very interesting. Creating a save file will help.

Thank you for this, perfect instructions. Still works completely fine on PS4 classic games catalogue (PS3 Version). Sometimes Walter won't award XP, you just need to exit dialogue with him and talk at a later time.

When Protector Castin catches me pickpocketing him, he aggros to me and only takes back the 10, I still have two Scrap Metal left, so it didn't work for me.
Sorry to hear that. This glitch tends to work better earlier it's performed in a playthrough. Also, you can try sleeping in Megaton for 72 in game hours and then trying again to see if that helps.

I feel exactly the same way every time I boot up the game and give it a play. Some of my play sessions is just me randomly walking around, exploring, reading terminals etc.
@TrappedInFallout There's something about fallout 3 for me that I can't explain. The game is so old and the graphics are way out of date but I actually love that about the game. It was so well made it doesn't need next flashy gen graphics to still be playable in 2023. The lack of colour, the music and the general atmosphere is what brings me back time and time again. Theres something so peaceful about the game that i cant explain. I have Fawkes too so that always helps let's be honest 😂 living on easy street!

In my current game, I’m level 24, and I have 2,241 speech successes, but I had never been to Fort Independence until today. It was not a location on my map, and I got to see the raiders attacking for the first time. I just tried this glitch, and it isn’t working for me at all. Like someone else mentioned, it may have to do with the perception of the NPC. I wish someone had a definitive answer as to why so many people are experiencing problems. I’m on Xbox Series X, and my saves were from a previous console, although I’m not sure which. My guess is Xbox One X. I’m also curious where those speech successes are from. Is there another speech glitch in the game?

There are no other speech glitches like this in FO3, this is it's only London as far as I know but I will double check and see.
To be honest there are just too many variables as to why this happens. This works on a new game usually and tends to stop working the later you try to perform the glitch in the game.
If you look through the comments, I suggest that you sleep on Megaton for 72 in game hours and then return with good karma.
For some it worked and for others it did not, for the many tmdid not respond with a it worked or not so I would assume folks who have not responded probably saw that working for the most part.
But in short there is not 100% fix when this glitch is not working or stops working.
Is this glitch patch in 2024 because its not working for me. Every time I attempt to steal, he catches me every time.
Try waiting in Megaton for 72 in game hours and then going back to Casdin today again. Sometimes he becomes hostile and doing this can reset his state.
Alright, so sadly I did have to reset my game on the side and try this again and it WORKED!!!! Thank you so much!. Now I can max out my stats and skills before level 30!!! I must've did something to piss off the Outcast Brotherhood previously. Again, Thank you!!!!!
No problem at all, I'm happy that it worked for you. Yeah, as you can now see there are factors in the game that effect the chances of pulling off this glitch but since it could be anything it's so hard to pin down the reason. This is why I suggested that if you have your heart set on using this glitch, start a new game and try again. Still, given the glitch, you probably will be able to hit level 30 relatively quickly. Just make sure to never pick up any more scrap metal as it will reset it. Oh and don't blow up Megaton for obvious reasons.
@@TrappedInFallout Yeah I noticed lol. Within a 2 - 2 1/2 hr time frame, I went from restarting the game to doing the glitch to get myself to be level 17. With the Megaton bomb, I defused it lol. I like good karma not bad. Only time I'm doing that is if I'm achievement hunting and I'm not doing that right now lol

Had to restart from when I tried to do this a few hours ago, I had played for too long and went past neutral karma. Restarted, got more scrap metal like 40 (buying it from tinker joe at Robco and raiding robco for abt 15 scrap) then did the glitch and it works today! MAKE sure that you do this early in the game before your karma goes bad, make sure you don’t go past neutral karma, and don’t steal anything till you do the glitch.
Thanks so much for sharing your tip - I basically say the same thing if you look through some of the comments on this video. Doing this early in the game does help alot in terms of actually pulling it off. For some reason the ability to perform this glitch gets harder (even though the steps are exactly the same) the later you do this in the game.
Just popping into say this works amazingly. Great for getting all the level and karma related trophies. Just go to the guy in Megaton when you want to get the xp and farm the exploit till you get to the level right before the trophies earn it, reload then go to the bar as soon as you enter Megaton and use the terminal, farm it till you are neutral and or evil depending on what Karma trophies you need then farm the guy again to level up and get those others. Will keep working with anyone that wants scrap metal or requires scrap metal. Plus this is great cause it will stay working as long as you make sure to never pick up any scrap metal cause then you'll have to redo the glitch. I've loaded the game many times and it still works without me having to do the glitch each time, even worked when I transferred my data and stuff to a different ps3.

How did you manage to run FO3 on PS4? Afaik, there's no download/disc version of the game for PS4. The only option i know is via streaming with PS Now.

Ok, that's a good information. I think they are using the latest patch with their PS3.
I'm not a fan of streaming with PS Plus. Never worked properly for me. But it's a funny system. Sony is using real PS3 consoles to provide the data. Till this day, they can't do software emulation of PS3 games.
Unfortunately, PS Now only runs the Vanilla Version of Fallout 3. Although the dlc are buggy, they make the game much better. If you have the option, i would suggest changing to PC or Xbox 360 Version (which runs with Xbox One and Series as well).
@@Minuteman_1776 Yeah, I would second and agree with Martin. Playing on PC also has other perks such as being able to use the console commands as well as access to a much larger range of mods from the Fallout modding community. There are some mods out there which alone would warrant a completely new playthrough.
I tried it with 90 scrap metals because It worked with 56 before and now I might've broken them because they keep attacking me when getting caught, or they don't catch me at all and I'm always in "caution" mode when sneaking even before stealing
still doesn't work even after going back to when I first discovered the location, and doing everything with 12 metal and waiting a while so the "cautious" warning would go away, anyways after doing everything at the very end when you're supposed to get caught the bug doesn't work and they all turn hostile against me for some reason and I'm just wondering because I recently connected my xbox 360 to wifi and when I logged in with xbox live account it gave me a update notice and it said if I didn't I would lose my Xbox live on that account, So maybe that was a patch for some bug's? If not then I'll just quickly go and open a different save and do the bug quickly see if it work's there.❤
Sadly this glitch can be temperamental. Personally have found it work first time on new saves and them I tend to not reset. Or I create a save state before resetting just in case it van not be reproduced again.

That is probably because he is hostile towards you. You can try waiting in Megaton for 72 in game hours and then try again and see if that helps.

thanks it worked. i tried to do this on my first save, level 18 completed most if the story and somehow didnt work. made a new save, level 4 with 3 charisma, good karma, only did 5 quests and it worked on x series s.
That's awesome, thanks so much for confirming that it's worked on your side. It's a great glitch and it really helps to level up rather quickly. It's also somewhat easier to do and works well on new games Vs games that have been in progress for some time.

Hi, sorry to hear that your having issues. You can try the following steps and it may help:
Firstly, go to Megaton and wait there for 72 in game hours. After this try the glitch again. Sometimes you may have hostile memebers in the group and waiting ingame may reset that.
Second, make sure to high a good karma level. This may prevent Casdin from attacking you.
Lastly, start a temporary new save game and try the glitch as soon as you leave the vault. If it works then this means something in your original game is stopping the glitch from working

If he does then this usually means that you either have negative karma or you have in the past attack an Outcast member and were caught doing it.

@lucascrider3907 Its a fair point. This glitch has a tendency of not working the later you do it in the game. There are some unknown factors that seem to make it very difficult to pull this off.
On my second playthrough and the second time I've done this glitch. First playthrough it worked perfectly, second playthrough their's nothing I can do that won't stop him from turning hostile when he catches me. Good karma, reset at megaton, same device and profile. I'm guessing theirs some unknown factor that makes the glitch not work. Either way good video
Thanks for your comment and feedback. In short, yes. There are some other factors that affect the glitch. Some have found working results after completing the Operation Anchorage DLC but it may also not work for you. It too random sadly.
This glitch doesn't work anymore on Xbox I have Tested it with a Good character with 6 Charisma 10 Charisma and while being friendly with the outcasts tested it on New game tested it on a Neutral and Evil playthrough as well Every time you try getting caught stealing your instantly Attacked and the Outcasts go Hostile tried with and without Stealth boy tried at night and Day even Gave him 40 power armor sets to improve relations yet always Hostile
If anyone has a fix for it to work other then new game again let me know and yes I even tested it early in the game same results
Sadly this glitch may not work when using in a playthrough that has been going on for some time. I am not sure and have not been able to find the answer but this glitch has a higher chance of working the earlier this is on during a playthrough. If he still turns hostil then chances are some action has happened in the game that has caused it but it would be hard to figure out what that action or event was.
Actually early in the game Doesn't matter either. I restarted a new game and tested it I got 12 scrap as soon as I had left vault 101 And immediately went straight there and avoided as many enemies that could Even that early he still went hostile
I believe it's something to do with the backwards compatibility when you play on Xbox One or if you play on PlayStation from what I read doing a deep dive into research on it. Some of the updates made for backwards compatibility caused a patch for that glitch making him turn hostile every time so it may still work on Xbox 360 but not on the newer consoles

2024 confirmed to still work! I'm on Xbox 360 and gave him a total of 20 scrap. I did the glitch as instructed and checked my inventory and now have infinite amount of (invisible) scrap. Thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉

This doesn't work anymore. Casdin becomes hostile and attacks when you get caught (as you instructed) anyway thanks for the video and blessing those it worked for, wish I knew these things 15 years ago lmao.
It's probably not something you may want to hear but this does work but for some reason it does not work if you do this after playing the game for a long time (not totally sure why). If your able to, try doing this glitch earlier by loading up an earlier save file (ideally just after leaving vault 101) and it should behave better. I hope this helps.

Alright it worked.After rushing thru vault and running like a bat outta hell to robco for tinker joe and robco scrap and the stealth boy that in there managed to acquire 20 scrap yadda yadda to fort independence once caught by Casdin the dialog to give scrap pops up immediately, so again Thank you for the video and your advice, Worked like a charm. Why do I get killed when I’m caught
I guess you may be at a low enough level or the game difficult is high enough for Casdin to be able to take you out. You can try levelling up a little or reducing the game difficulty he Casdin should not be able to take you out as easily. I hope that this helps.

I might do this one to get the karma based achievments. I'm enjoying this game, but I'm not going to play for more than 80 hours to get Level 30 with bad and neutral karma.
Sounds like a good plan. You could also save your game at certain points and then just load your game and change your Karma before finishing the game.

Todd Howard truly is the master in the art of developing broken games! My nephew and I were talking about his glitch filled games and the only game I've never seen a beneficial glitch is in ESO lol! The gaming universe needs more Todd Howards
For what's it's worth Todd Howard is an amazing visionary when it comes to game design, scope, depth etc. I just wish that he would have stayed. Sadly he is leaving and his last Bethesda game will be an Elder Scrolls game. I would have loved to seen one more Fallout game from him (an offline one).

What if he just attacks you?
Try waiting in Megaton for 72 in game hours and see if that helps. It will hopefully reset his status and he should stop attacking.

Best way to check if this will work is steal from the guy begging for water in megaton if he attacks you it won’t. Reload safe from the vault and try again if he doesn’t attack you it means it will work..
That's sounds like an interesting way of testing to see if this would work. What makes you think that this works in the sense that if he attacks then so will casdin?
@@TrappedInFalloutI tried it multiple times doing the exact same thing and he only attacks me when the water guy does too for some reason the game will make it that some times they attack some times they only take the stuff back and don’t turn hostile..

@@TrappedInFalloutnot Walter there is a “beggar” outside megaton who ask for purified water…but yea sometimes when you leave the vault the game makes it so npc attack you when you get caught stealing and sometimes they don’t try it out lol with any npc in a file where Casin doesn’t attack you and one where he does…

What am i doing wrong? I have 18 bottle caps, in get stims for all of them, pickpocket them all back, then do the same thing again but leave two and get caught, and for some reason, i still have 2 left and he judt starts trying to kill me????
There is a chance that he may have become hostile towards you. The best thing to do before doing this glitch might be to go to Megaton and wait there for 72 in game hours. This is to allow his hostility towards you to change.
@@TrappedInFallout I also have realized that I might have been too far into the game. So I just restarted, went to robco, got scrap and the glitch worked perfectly fine
@@camrich24 Awesome, that's why I suggest you try it in a new game. I'm not totally sure why but something in the game pretty much stops it from happening, it tends to work very well on a new game though.
This glitch doesn’t work if you’re level 8 and stolen a couple items before. My karma is very good, I’m a “protector”. And, when I get caught picking his pocket on purpose, he attacks me.
Sadly this can happen. There is no solid steps but you can try waiting in Megaton for 72 in game hours and trying again to see if that helps.

A Pro tip: If Protector Casdin isn't catching you when pickpocketing him, take your clothes off...i know it sounds weird and random..BUT thats how it worked for me.

Yeap that's right. The more you put in the more you get put at the end. And it compounds, you basically level up way faster.

I'm not sure what happened, but I'm unable to find defender Morgan. At first, when I went there, I didn't realize it was them I was looking for, so I talked to them but left, I thought I was supposed to talk to someone else. I passed some time, and went to look for them again, but that's when I realized that it was Morgan I was looking for. But now, whenever I look for them, they're not there?! I fast traveled away from the area a few times, past some time, and yet I can't find Morgan in their post. I'm not sure what to do. I even looked around the base a few times but they wont spawn anymore.
Sadly there is always the chance that any given NPC that your looking for may have been killed out in the wasteland by random creatures or worse may not have spawned at all due to random game glitches. You might be able to confirm by perhaps loading up earlier save games to see but if they don't appear then there is not much you can do sadly.

It totally is and it's even harder to do at a high level. The trick with this glitch is to activate it as soon as you leave Vault 101 which would then give you the ability to level up pretty quickly.

Sometimes Casdin can be hostile towards you. Try going to Megaton and waiting there for 72 in game hours and then try repeating the steps again. Hopefully that helps. If not then checkout the pinned comment in this video for some more tips.
Okay so if you’re struggling with him catching you and he’s trying to kill you I have theory why. As you level up more the more difficult enemies are to kill and also therefore more hostile because their perception is higher. So it could be that higher levels make it not very possible for that reason. As your marked as an enemy and he’s more hostile toward you for that.
Yes, that makes sense. And that is why I suggest you try to pull this off and set this up indefinitely early in the game.
