  • Visiting the brand new Brent Cross West railway station which opened on Sunday 10th December 2023
This station comprises two double-sided island platforms and two street entrances (one each on opposite sides of the tracks) which create a new weather-protected walking route across the railway for local people - even if they are not actually travelling by train. Because the station is on an elevated section of railway the platforms were somewhat windswept on the day I filmed this. Another design feature is the high ceiling - its height seems to remain constant throughout the ticket hall, upper level passageways and station entrances - this is especially noticeable at the Brent Cross Town entrance.
In addition to the expected desirable amenities, such as platform shelters, waiting rooms, toilets and full accessibility there is wayfinding information on the handrails (including in braille) and one of the street entrances has what look bike wheeling ramps / push ramps / runnels. A café is planned too.
The Brent Cross Town station entrance is very grand, with planting and wooden seating areas more reminiscent of a courtyard garden than a railway station.

Wonderful array of shots, you've covered all angles and the image of the ongoing construction will become quite historic in the not too distant future

Thank you - maybe in a year or two from now it will be worthwhile returning to re-film the Brent Cross Town street scenes. The station, I would hope, will not have changed too much!

@@CitytransportInfoplus ha - let's hope not! Yes those streets and how they evolve would be intriguing. There's been so much development around there.

The town entrance and concourse look like a 60's/70's airport terminal

Thameslink should allow some of their Class 700 trains from Brighton, Orpington, Sutton, Wimbledon and Bedford to stop at the new Brent Cross West station.
I have to say that the new station does look really nice and very clean. Also East Linton station in East Lothian, Scotland opened 3 days after Brent Cross West. Perhaps you should do East Linton if possible.

The ones from Sutton and Wimbledon do stop there now. Not many to Orpington anyway, Sevenoaks ones usually start from Blackfriars going south, but Brent Cross West also gets the Luton to Rainham services during the day. Bedford is accessible via a quick change at St Albans (or Luton Airport Parkway or Lutom).

There needs to be an airport-style automated people-mover to Brent Cross shopping centre.
Right now the walk between the shopping centre and the station is simply horrible - especially at night (comment based on personal experience).
Some people would suggest a bus shuttle, and whilst this would sound like a good idea I prefer an off-road solution that is immune to traffic congestion ... indeed on seeing this shuttle passing by overhead some people would even be enticed to use public transport instead of their cars.
