Creepy yes it's super dark and scary when I'm listening alone in the dark I felt like she was gonna come in the form of a spider with long braids and snatched baby hairs and eat me
I think a lot of Twigs's songwriting thus far has had an underlying frustration and vulnerability to is. Water Me and Pendulum are especially heartbreaking in their frustration.
Glass and Patrone is actually about voguing, the underground dancing in New York. She wrote the song for her friends on that scene and had them dance in the video.
If you haven't seen the interlocking music videos for this EP you really should - it's a complete package and adds a fullness and cohesiveness to the whole thing that you don't quite get just listening (though on its own the album is lovely musically as well)
@@CriticalCulture I'm not betting on it, but he has at times completely 180'd on some songs in the context of the whole album, so that song has a chance.
I just listened to it maybe half an hour ago and i lost my SHIT and i've yet to regain said shit. also with "in time" i agree with you about the travis scott thing, i was telling my friend it reminded me of the hook on 3500. yikes. im blown tf away.
"The song in a way, actually reminds me of Travis Scott; if he backed his 'experiments' with actually good songs and interesting ideas" Little did he know.....
I really liked this EP too. Especially songs like "In Time" and "Figure 8", but, I really didn't like the song "I'm Your Doll". Like, at all. But otherwise, nice collection of tracks from Tahliah.
Weirdly enough i found her first 2 EPs weird and kind of hard to swallow, except a few tracks. (and i'm a die hard Björk fan, so you get the concept). This one, on the other hand really captivated me, i love every single song on this EP, it was an easy listen and i think it's genius.
Coming back to this 9 years later. I still think this is her best project. I don’t believe anything else tops it, it’s that good. I pretend like it’s a full album, and ignore the EP label.
Benjamin Govrik I listen to most of the stuff he uploads, even if it isn't a "good" score. Just because fantano gives it a 6/10 doesn't mean that i will think its a 6/10. Most of the songs only take like 3 minutes of your time to listen to, also.
Wait...so you mean you know the scores are just his opinion?!? Hold the goddamn phone here, where is this coming from? Positive and level-headed comments belong elsewhere... On that note, I agree with this review and the score. This album is awesome.
Benjamin Govrik i base whether i fuck with the album on his actual review. eve if it's a 2 or 3, if his criticisms dont bother me, ill still look it up
Michael Di Gennaro Im with ya on that. Especially with rap music, Anthony will give out really low scores to shit I like. (He seems to fucking hate it when rappers sing, when it doesn't really bother me)
pullingthestringz like i have a soft spot for pop rap and garage rock, so even if he doesn't mess with them the fact that he even reviews it (and if the cons aren't really bad things to me) i'll check it out
so does the album that Anthony puts on the right (in this case, Kate Bush Hounds of Love) always mean something??? any relation to the album hes reviewin? cause i feel like there are a lot of artpop parrallels in FKA twigs and Kate, but sometimes the album on the right seems totally random in other videos (or maybe I'm not understanding the statement?)
Surprised Anthony didn't freak out at Mothercreep's ending, the build up in the last few seconds had me wanting more. Still love every song on the EP though.
You should keep your eye on Boots. He produced a lot of this, as he did with Beyonce's last album, and was featured on RTJ2. He's dropping an album soon, and it sounds like it's gonna be amazing--especially if it's anywhere near his Motorcycle Jesus EP or WinterSpringSummerFall mixtape.
it's interesting to see a straight guy's take on the glass and patron video. she was actually paying homage to ballroom culture that emerged in New York City in the 80s. there's a really good documentary about it, it's called Paris is burning, you should def check it out.
+ayejayjay girl chill she just came out with an ep don't be greedy. I think melissa was good bc twigs spent time on it and didn't immediately release after lp1 just to satisfy her stans
+Polly The Frog okay? She has been making her new songs since before the release of LP1. Now that I think about it, she could do another EP before another album.
i agree with you 100% w/ your comment towards the end - along the lines of this ep surpasses her earlier work. shes definitely improving with each release.. cant wait for the next one
a few months before LP1 dropped I was in London with my brother and FKA twigs walked by - I didn't know who she was then. My brother recognised her and I just watched them talk presuming it was one of his friends or something. I almost wish she'd make bad music so I regret that moment less.
I absolutely loved this EP. I'm usually a fan of the weird and experimental so this really struck my fancy, yet I can still see how this can appeal to a wider audience in some cases. The video that she made along with the EP is a very trippy experience and it enhanced the feeling of the album. The most notable feeling of which is that she made her sexuality sort of frightening and vulgar, in a way. Not in a bad way either, it evoked feelings that a horror or suspense film might and I thought that was very unique and incredibly interesting.
Wow, you're very prompt with these reviews lol But as SOON as the video popped up on my feed last night, I couldn't stop watching it. Impeccable review :) " In Time" is my favorite
I can't believe your least fav track was 'Figure 8', that is one of my favs with 'I'm Your Doll', and 'In Time', and 'Mothercreep' and 'Glass & Patron'.... basically all the EP.
I think he really needs to look at the influences in the record...songs like figure 8 and glass & patron make so much more sense and demand so much more emotion from you when you learn she wrote them in homage to the vogue dancers of LGBT clubs all around the world, and the history that comes with that. Figure 8 encapsulates this, referring to the figure 8 shapes made in all basic vogue movements
Nice review! However, I'm really curious what your thoughts are gonna be on the new Nero album 'Between II Worlds". It drops in September, but I'm already hyped on it.
Anthony please review The Life And Times and Failure, for me these are underrated great bands, especially TLAT and Failure that are back with new releases.
The melodies on LP1 were stronger than on this EP, or at least I liked the melodies more, but my opinion is probably skewed by the countless amount of times I've listened to the album. The only complaint I have about the EP is that there was almost NO vocal harmonization, especially since it was the vocal harmony in songs like Two Weeks and Pendulum that created some of my favorite moments on the LP. But I still loved all the tracks, can't wait until the next album
Fantano! I'd love to hear your thoughts on 'Into The Flame' an EP by Australian artist Matt Corby. Possibly 'Every Kingdom' or 'I Forget Where We Where' by Ben Howard as well?
It's funny you mentioned Travis $cott when talking about the "Away" track. I'm sure he had some influence on the sound in this album as he has a cameo in Twigs' "Video Girl" video.
I like how he imagines this dance club in an alternate dimension where no one is dancing because everyone is too weird or pretentious. You really don't have to go to another dimension for that, dog.
I haven't listened to every song in singularity because I don't have the EP (watched the 16 min video), but it has been a long time since I've seen Anthony review an EP or even Album with such a great score

If so, it really messes with my mind because it makes absolutely no sense and makes me wonder if it was real or I'm just imagining. Otherwise, I love FKA Twigs and this is one of her best works.
FKA Twigs makes the kind of music that succubi and black widow spiders would make. This shit is creepy and makes me feel funny in my no-no place.
+Dom's Sketch Cast where were you touhed? use this doll
Creepy yes it's super dark and scary when I'm listening alone in the dark I felt like she was gonna come in the form of a spider with long braids and snatched baby hairs and eat me
Dom's Sketch Cast FR
Dom's Sketch Cast in my no-no place. I laughed way to hard at that.
@generaldom she was turning you submissive and breedable
You know you've got a killer EP when Figure 8 is the weakest track on it.
@unlocktheswag same. Didn't dig on the chipmunky voice, but still a great song
It makes me so uncomfortable to hear Anthony say "erotic"
hahah
+dankiel bentliff when cal said it..link pleaseee
Or "apprishiate"
Tuba Games "sexual"
Tuba Games haha as soon as he said it he gave me the whole American mid-western churchgoer 'Ned Flanders' kind of reproachful vibe lol
When does fka twigs evolve into FKA branches
She has to evolve into branches first, duh....
Meme Lover good joke
Meme Lover nice meme
CallmeWHALE that would make her fka fka twigs
CallmeWHALE FKA Kindling
The Kate Bush in the background was very fitting for this interview
now both artists have completely blown up in the past year!!!
I loved this shit so much. FKA Twigs is amazing.
ARandomPlaya Yessssssss
+ARandomPlaya yep.
💘
I think a lot of Twigs's songwriting thus far has had an underlying frustration and vulnerability to is. Water Me and Pendulum are especially heartbreaking in their frustration.
HOW CAN FIGURE 8 BE YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE
FIGURE 8 IS THE BOP
Glass and Patrone is actually about voguing, the underground dancing in New York. She wrote the song for her friends on that scene and had them dance in the video.
Literally one of the most progressive artists right now, her music is like looking into the future
If you haven't seen the interlocking music videos for this EP you really should - it's a complete package and adds a fullness and cohesiveness to the whole thing that you don't quite get just listening (though on its own the album is lovely musically as well)
His description of it as "gaudy" hurts me 😭 it's a masterpiece!!!
"In Time" is such a great song.
No female artist is close to what Twigs is currently doing. Insane sounds
Sza
You obviously havent heard about Grimes then
Miss Sadie I know all about grimes...right now she is not doing anything as creative, progressive or as innovative as Twigs
Bjork does
Grimes isn't that good tbh
I personally loved the Glass and Patron video. Floor shows are GAUD. That's the point.
I know I'm a year and a half late but how the fuck is Figure 8 your least favourite track, that shit bumps
kate bush in the background yass
MOVEMENT-NEW ORDER SHIRT
>yass
Just stop
noticed that too, it felt fitting
sharpvon l come on let the girls have this one.
"I'm Your Doll" is so godly.
I bet her next album will get a 10. SAME thing happened with Kendrick
Section.80-8
GKMC-9
TPAB-10
LP1-8
M3LL155X-9
???-10
Sadly not gonna happen since Anthony didn’t like Holy Terrain :(
@@CriticalCulture I'm not betting on it, but he has at times completely 180'd on some songs in the context of the whole album, so that song has a chance.
It didn't get a 10....
@@kieran3862 yeah but it was an actual 7. I went back to LP1 and this and there's no way MAGDALENE is as good as this one in particular
@@soqquadro7672 Yeah I can definitely agree with you on that one, m3ll155x is probably some of her best work in my opinion.
don't bother reading the comments, they're shit 99% of the time. have a nice day.
Krishtie Mofazzal and that 1%, is funny as hell. have a nice night.
Good suggestion
***** I know my good friend, I know.

This was the first vinyl I ever brought for a musical release. I loved it that much. FKA twigs is a creative visionary

I wished you commented on the video also... the I'm Your Doll part is SO disturbing, it fits the song really well.
love what you do! so many folks IRL can't/wont engage with records like this 👏👏
Anthony, look into this great musician named Dornik. You might have heard of him, but he dropped his album and I think you'll appreciate that album.

Lulu Rouge - The Song Is In The Drum, might be worth bending your ear toward ;) Would love to see a review on this album.
Please review "Dawn Richard - Blackheart" it's one the best albums of 2015
That first picture really look like Tinashe
...lol no
***** That implies that all mixed race people look alike...
Fuck all that bull shit don't that first pic look like Tinashe
+REVIEWERtm so you think they look the same because they're both mixed race?
***** then why even mention that they're both mixed?
'in time' is the killer cut for me.
Hey Fantano you got a typo in your fav tracks section. It's "I'm your doll" not "in your doll"
My copy came in the mail today and I'm very bummed, my version of the albums is new, but skips on both sides of the album... :(
Good to see a Kate Bush cover from backwards in 2022
How bout a track review of that new Mac Miller track "100 Grandkids".
He talked about it on his other channel Thatistheplan. He gave it a (3xHot) rating meaning he liked it.
Love the Kate Bush vinyl in the background.

My favourite song from this EP is Figure 8 tbh
that random sneeze in the beginning lol. Got me laughing how you kept going with the review
500K Grapethany, congrats
Review hounds of love for classics week!!!

Her Manchester residency was amazing.
Nice. I'll listen to it w/ the lights on.
500 000 subs and 1M video this is your day.
Lol he misspelled "I'M" in the best tracks list
This album is banging! Thanks for the review Basedthony Godtano, or I wouldn't never thought to check this album out
Just give her a 10 already God damnit
I saw the thumbnail and I had to give it a listen. After I watched the review. I knew you were going to reference Travis Scott. I heard the same.

Drunk *** Banana he gave her debut album a 9/10 too
ryan damn he really does like her
Still waiting for a review on these Cal tracks that have been dropping recently..............
great EP, gonna go check out the album now
Should give 'Blossom' by Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes a review! Best material since he left Gallows
Can't wait to hear Fantano's review of Rodeo
How do you feel about James Fauntleroy's music
watching those reviews I've noticed some weird editing, like random sound and repetition. Is it intentional? If so, it really messes with my mind because it makes absolutely no sense and makes me wonder if it was real or I'm just imagining.
Otherwise, I love FKA Twigs and this is one of her best works.
FKA Twigs and Clarence Clarity are both pop music's saviors. They should collaborate!
