Only item that I would caution about is using PVC. In general, it is safe to use recycle codes 2, 4, or 5. PVC is code 3 which can leach chemicals into the water - and that is not taking into account the recirculating of the water/nutrients while sitting in the sun. The leaching of the chemicals have to go somewhere and plants are a good filter that we end of eating.
