  • In the two weeks following our session we host another group, this time from Canada. Some great folks leading the team, but a tired Rob and Leslie. Some fun time lapse shots of pruning, and a great upgrade to the Water heating situation in the Chateau. (and as always a great meal:)

I just love watching all the beautiful things you two do ❤.
I have one suggestion. When you are trimming your bushes, put a sheet or tarp around the base. When you’re done you can pick it up and dispose of it so much easier!!

Nice to see you again. I think it's great you had another group to experience your beautiful chateau. A few tips for you to help with your garden tasks. Ambitious hedge trimming and it is a lot of work. You can make clean up easier by putting down a tarp for the trimmings. Great for composting and tarp makes it easy to haul. Do you have compost set up? You have natural leaf mold compost that is ideal for your garden beds - especially the boxwood hedge. I'm jealous of that natural resource. Also manure is great for roses. Smells for a day or two. stronger healthier plants help fight off pests. Round up is so risky and very dangerous for dogs - remember how low they are to the ground. It's been proven to cause cancer. The impatient gardener on YT has a good video on weeds. She's a fan of the blow torch as the most permanent solution. Amazing that you figured out the water heater solution. I always learn something from you. Congrats on a successful summer. Enjoy!

There are different strengths of vinegar in the US. Pickling vinegar, or some know it as canning vinegar is very strong...9% acidity. I wonder if you have tried that in your weed killing cocktail? Long-term, you might consider a coating or covering that will completely seal whatever part you choose to use it on, thereby reducing what you have to weed manage. Expense, yes, but it can be done in stages.

About the weeds, probably mentioned it already, but if you rake it regularly (not sure if it is possible on your type of gravel) the weeds have no chance of growing ... Also there are specific products to remove rust stains on tiles. We use Colt clean rust remover ( it has ammonium thioglycolate, diethylethanolamine and xanthan gum in it )

Hello dear ones, another very full summer for you, but you are using that beautiful place that our Lord has entrusted to you, and making it available for others who are serving Him as well! But I can just imagine how beautiful the silenced is for a bit! May you get the rest you need!
I did not read the comments about the Roundup, but the danger of the poisons are very real. And I find it hard to believe the danger is gone in only 1 hour! I have been seeing that there are multiple law suits going on against the company, many studies proving it's the cause of too many illnesses including several kinds of cancers. Not only is the danger for humans, but I truly cringed when I saw precious Mr. Bingly running around out there with his ball rolling and then he picks it up with his mouth. Also if he then licks his paws...
I have had great success using boiling water with vinegar, salt, and Dawn dish soap added. All the weeds were turning yellow the next day! But the boiling water would be difficult for your large area though, I'm sure!
Enjoy your rest! The Lord bless you!
    And again, Greetings from WallaWalla!

Did you really have people unsubscribe becaure you used Roundup on your weeds? Sad. Can you find an organic weed killer in your garden center. There is a brand called "Dead Weed Brew" by Captain Jacks, here in the US, that would work on your square. Not a fan of the music during the tree trimming segment, lol. Sorry you had pushback from discussing your need for herbicide with the audience. Everyone with a balcony garden is experts worthy of advising those with five to ten acres to care for. 🙄
Where are the volunteers to help hoe the driveway? 🤷🏻‍♀️
You can try rigging up some kind of drag apparatus to pull behind your new zero turn. On that packed gravel it will have to be real heavy (guessing three hundred lbs and four to five ft wide). Steel angle iron from a scrap yard hooked to the mower with chain could work, but you'll need to redrag the driveway a few days after every rain. The goal is to dislodge little invisible sprouts before they get rooted down.
That rental tractor with the box blade scraper when you got the new gravel is perfect. Probably need to use that twice a year if you can run it two to three inches deep. Some tractors have hydraulic lifts with a "float" option. Float keeps the blade from digging too deep. It will lift itself before it drags up huge humps of gravel. Its something you can learn to do with practice. Or you might be able to hire it done twice a year for a reasonable fee.
I know you love your zero turn, but a small tractor with a box blade on back could have a belly mount mower too.
Best wishes, and have a wonderful time relaxing with your lovely bride. 🙏
PS: Rent a floor buffer with fine scotchbright pad to clean the rust off tile. Muriatic acid might be needed if the scouring pad fails.
