By *1918**, the sanatorium had expanded significantly. **15 open-air cottages* stood, each accommodating two or three people. These cottages featured steam heat, private bedrooms, and shared bathrooms. In the early **1920s**, a reception hospital was added, complete with modern amenities like a surgical suite, long-distance telephone system, and elevators.
Today, the historic brick building still stands, overlooking picturesque Pokegama Lake. While lacking modern comforts, the property spans *72 acres* and awaits a visionary transformation. The **Pokegama Sanatorium**, eventually closed its doors in **1943**. After its closure, the property was sold to the **Redemptorist Fathers**, who repurposed it as a school for priests. Later, it became known as "Pine Manor" and served as a chemical dependency treatment center. Unfortunately, financial difficulties led to its final closure around **April 1, 1986**⁴.
