That part at the end is so perfect. If you're going to be true to yourself the road to success is the very same road to ruin. This is true in every aspect of life. No guarantees. A Life worth living is in the risk, your risk as you see it.

Churning out other people's safe mediocre ideas and regretting it 40 years later? At least if we do our own thing then whatever the outcome we can be a bit more proud of how we lived our life.
Louis C.K. was a self admittedly average comic for 20 years until something clicked. He suddenly understood what he wanted to say with his art and it worked. 20 years. Now, people try and after 5 years, quit, writing a big post on social media like a some post retirement Grammy speech. But there are still people out there who do things because they truly love it and when you find those pages, it shows.
Exactly. It's not hard to tell an artist with integrity from someone just trying to appeal to mass audiences. Unfortunately money is a hell of an incentive to throw away your values.
Exactly. The difference between GOAT like him and normal ones are they really love it. LeBron James also love basketball too. That's why new talents go down so easily after max contract etc. in NBA. Some people are there for money or fame, but GOAT ones like Louis are there because of love and nothing can kill that. He just said he loves watching comics. He loves it.
Man he just articulated what I've thought about for a while. the "algorithm" is social control. If you get people to think "these types of things is what will get me seen" then whoever controls the algorithm controls the collective consciousness.... Great insights and a life lesson from Louis CK. Another illustration that in this day and age, comics are a more reliable source of wisdom than political leaders. He actually give a life lesson that goes well beyond aspiring comics. Below a certain age, nobody's immune to the pressure of social media, and is forced to decide whether to play the game - even minimally, and resist by walking away from these platforms. Broadly speaking, the necessity to strike a balance between individual goals and bending to social pressure is nothing new, but Louis CK's update helps put in perspective the role played by social media. Louis CK has a truly unique deep view on human condition and society. And the way he makes comedy about the need to question our irrational ways of behaviour is just tremendous.
Tremendous! Louie has beautifully interpreted "algorithm" in partial thanks to his background in hardware/software skills that he developed as a youngster while editing his material. IMHO - He is right about the "deterioration" in the expressionism of the new/young comics...

Everyone in the world should watch this, not only does he totally speak the truth about social media, people take that concept out into the real world with how they should react to the life going on around them. The sad part though is the social media/ algorithm world is very rapidly becoming the "real world".
The deal is, the bottom line is that he's genuinely hilarious , shocking, crude, witty, he understands exactly how to carry a REAL algorithm like a full arena...
As an up and coming musician, this really hits home. You'll see amazing cats start playing like everyone else because it gets you a lot more money. In turn, it stops getting interesting.
When you throw out your true self for fame or money or whatever, its a quick build up and a quick end too. Being authentic is hard work but a long term pay off, im not even saying money wise but humanity wise definitely
The music scene has been fucking decimated by it. In ireland the entire scene sounds like gilla band or a basic BJM clone with fake american youtube accents.or stereolab of course. You must be able to describe yourself as a musician in relation to what other musicians sound like at all times lest you be unrelatable. U must always have a nostalgic post punk feature as well. Everybody espouses the same rhetoric as well to fit in. Its become impossible to explore philosophical concepts because if you say the wrong thing even as you explore, you will be asked to justify your work explicitly as if you had intended a sentiment by way of association or other, rather than having art function as a mirror to society we have turned the mirror into a screen that instructs us on what we must bend into lest we be cast out or deemed uncool. Art is becoming fucking sterile. Death grips are the only good well known band because they reject interviews and remain cryptic. Theyre lucky though because they came up bdfore it took over and have that luxury. Its the only art for my money that feels like a person made it with any fuckin honesty. Im so glad louie said all this shit because its all i ever fucking think about and have been writing music about it for years. Sorry about the rant but im just so glad people are here. Good luck in your journey!
@Tuath Im a musician too and In the last few years in argentina (in the capital at least, Buenos Aires), i´ve also seen the influence of BJM. Thee Oh Sees too.. Not stereolab though. And before that the influence of post punk, of course, ha. I find honesty in some of those bands though. There is nothing wrong artistically with having influences, i guess. But if the fear of "not fitting in", or to be "uncool" exists as a priority, the art is going to be as you said, sterile. I also think about this things, some times more, some times less, ha. Cheers from Argentina!
Did Chris just say he has to go when he is doing a podcast with Louie? This is literally the peak of Chris’s career and he has another commitment? Bizarre lol
This stuff is where his comedy comes from - like he writes a mini thesis in his mind of pure truth, like this, then distills this background thinking into 2 or 3 sentences
He's absolutely right: it is an abstract thing to obsess over trying to figure out how to get a computer to "pick you up" and select you. But as he's giving examples of how it used to be, I feel like it was also abstract to figure out how to get a Producer from a Tv Network to like you and select you.... and even how to get an audience of humans to like you and select you. It's all abstract and relative, and there's no exact science and there's always an element of trying to sell yourself so that you'll please people. So in the broad sense, I don't think there's something especially unique about the "weirdness" and abstraction of trying to get a computer to select you and put you in the special spot for audiences to see you. It's just the modern version of how it used to be done. I mean, everything we do has become computarized. We used to ask people for directions, now we log into a Google Map machine on our phones and have satellites tell us where to go. We used to wake up to the sunlight or to roosters screaming, now we set an alarm on our phone. I think the important thing is that an artist has some level of integrity so that they're not simple "people pleasers" who will do anything to be liked, which you find A LOT of in social media. But regardless of whether it's an algorithm or a publisher, or a record label, or a small crowd in a cafe, I think an artist has to find a balance between listening to what audiences react, and at the same time, having a boundary where they decide "Ok, these are some of the things I'm not gonna change, no matter how people react, even if that means I'll get a lot of hate and rejection".
I'm a huge Louis fan and have always been. It's funny that I'm looking at this right now because being a huge fan helped the algorithm suggest based on my activities, which mainly focus on following him.
louis is always talked about for his comedy or other politics but his insight about people being so focused on engagement when what really lasts is not related to that rings so true
I'm just doing my own thing. People see stuff and share it when they like it. I'm not really after anything. That said I'd sell out in a second for a bunch of cash.
This video is pivotal if you’re a comic who has worried about their social media and marketing presence. He’s right, keep writing and performing and shooting films/pilots.
Preach, Louis. Louis is my one of my favourite comedians of all time. I completely agree re: the algorithm & click-bait titles. You’ll see 💩 like, “THIS PERSON MUST BE CANCELLED” & then it’ll be pathetic Twitch drama that most people couldn’t care for. The algorithm sometimes creates a cesspool of fake people & frauds. I’d rather be true to myself than be somebody else, especially if that somebody else is dictated by a dumb, drama incentivising robot incapable of understanding actual human emotion.
Louis isn't underrated for his comedy, but the one thing he is underrated for...is thoughts on stuff like this. He's an incredible bright man

That is something i think a lot of people would enjoy.
I never thought of it like that, unique way of looking at it
I'm glad the algorithm brought me this.
Theo is the first person I thought of when he was talking about someone who was getting better and then fell off because of popularity based on social media
Same here man. Literally thought of Theo
Is he curating his content to fit social media? He's not funny anymore?
@@ogivignjevic I went and saw him live and his set was more of a live podcast than standup. I used to be excited for him to progress into a polished comedian but it doesn't seem like that's his goal. Of course, he's well within his rights to stick to being a successful traveling podcaster but as a fan of standup it was disappointing
@@ogivignjevic Both
probably the absolute best advice out there for comics today, right here
He's right, you dont have to.
If you've got the talent, there'll be no stopping it.
Some of the realest I’ve heard in a while.
Louis CK has a truly unique deep view on human condition and society. And the way he makes comedy about the need to question our irrational ways of behaviour is just tremendous.
Spot on.
Everything he said is 100% true. Especially the last part.
Same shit can be said about music. Fuck the All-god-rhythm
Tremendous! Louie has beautifully interpreted "algorithm" in partial thanks to his background in hardware/software skills that he developed as a youngster while editing his material.
IMHO - He is right about the "deterioration" in the expressionism of the new/young comics...
Just starting on the road... Partly thanks to Louis. What incredible advice
Luis CK is going to prepare a whole 20 min "Standup piece" about the "Algorithm".... watching the process of a comedic script writer live... !!!
I can't help myself... I'm going to be the crazed fan and say that I love you so much Louis 😭😭😭 I wish you were my friend.
Louis is spot on
Louis CK is definitely my number one favorite comedian.I listen to comedy all day in my headphones while I work.I have been doing that for at least 7 years. And I most certainly like Louis ck #1
This is the sort of viewpoint I keep getting pulled back to. I make videos to promote our music and have had some success that's driven lots of listeners to our music. But it's sooo easy to get distracted by the numbers and every now and again.. I notice I haven't been focused enough on creating new interesting videos. Still figuring this out, so this was a great interview
The most mind-blowing aspect of this is that Louie actually talked about this on Opie and Anthony something like 15 years ago before it even happened
Damn,i need to check it out
@@superslavbross9935 i wish i could remember when he talked about it, but I don't, i strongly recommend to check every episode he appeared in though, because it's all gold.
Boy did he elevate that show
The irony of posting this bit on "the algorithm" from someone clipping another's content and getting 220K+ views is too funny
We love you Louie 😭
@5:20 why do I feel like hes talking about Andrew Schulz lol
Really valid points here, thanks YT algorythm!
Bathed in the sunshine of the screen. Amazing
Love this man's mind and his unwavering common sense.
Social media isn’t real… real life is.. real life will always prevail.
Everyone in the world should watch this, not only does he totally speak the truth about social media, people take that concept out into the real world with how they should react to the life going on around them. The sad part though is the social media/ algorithm world is very rapidly becoming the "real world".
Yup, he nailed it.
he is describing all the grad school research in the whole world
this was the first video suggested in my YT algo feed
Exactly, Louis still hits the nail on the haed all the time.
this is a profound discussion...
The deal is, the bottom line is that he's genuinely hilarious , shocking, crude, witty, he understands exactly how to carry a REAL algorithm like a full arena...
4:04 I love how serious he is about this point but then like a sec after that he immediately says no I do use youtube and insta :))))))))
Louis is the best. He’s one of the greats and he doesn’t have a big head about it.
Fuck the algorithms, speak your guts out.
You a real one
I wish Louis would make a movie about these ideas he has about social media.
Louis CK come back please
Name a single prolific online comedian who has put out a special that is objectively above a 3 out of 10 in the past 5 years
Did Chris just say he has to go when he is doing a podcast with Louie? This is literally the peak of Chris’s career and he has another commitment? Bizarre lol
This stuff is where his comedy comes from - like he writes a mini thesis in his mind of pure truth, like this, then distills this background thinking into 2 or 3 sentences
i needed to hear this, thanks Louis! ❤
thank you alan for sharing this video with us all.
Love it. His comment at the end, "25 years ... is also a road to shit.", ...man is that ever true as well.
“The target isn’t even a human being” I liked that
I'm a huge Louis fan and have always been. It's funny that I'm looking at this right now because being a huge fan helped the algorithm suggest based on my activities, which mainly focus on following him.
louis is always talked about for his comedy or other politics
but his insight about people being so focused on engagement when what really lasts is not related to that rings so true
I feel Stravos is crying right now
It's true, the elevator to his apartment broke down
that Louie got 5 seasons of that TV show, even AFTER his first series flopped, says it all. do what you love.
I'm just doing my own thing. People see stuff and share it when they like it. I'm not really after anything. That said I'd sell out in a second for a bunch of cash.
Watch out!! You're in the SPLASH ZONE!!!🌋
This is true for everything, not just comedy. Social media has also fucked up the skateboarding industry for example.
How so?
This is brilliant for anyone and anything with regard to social media. Again, Louis is ahead of the thinking curve.
As a senior marketer, I TOTALLY feel the same way. Whether it's true or not is a different topic :)
Ironic that we would have never seen this video if the algorithm didn’t push it to us
Opposite for me- I have to search Louis and Chapelle vids lately…the equation doesn’t support wisdom😅
