I went to a Louie CK show in Alabama about 7 years ago ( very small place, was about 10 feet away), Louie made a comment about why I was at the show and not laughing. It was in fact a great show and that just how I process the jokes.
I hope you and Louie stay in touch, Theo. As weird as it seems, I feel like you and him could have a really unique friendship.
53:38 what the hell was that lmao
wow podcasts will be the end of people. there really is a limit especially for guys like you
Louis is a connoisseur of the beautifully absurd and Theo is a museum of the beautifully absurd.
My favorite comment of all of these lovely comments
@@ExecutiveChristmine as well
wow…so well said & spot on!
This is a perfect summary of this whole encounter
Fucking beautiful
Louis is the only person I've seen catch everything Theo is saying , great chemistry you can tell he really like Theo
The thing that fascinates him is observing, studying and dissecting other peoples behavior. And trying to get to the core of why people do the things they do. I have no doubt he's thoroughly entertained with listening to Theo and trying to get some insight into how his brain works
Shane Gillis was the only other one, and it’s no surprise to me that Louis CK went on Shane’s podcast too. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. Louis’s podcasts with Shane are very high quality in the same way, they’re listening to each other and there’s nothing forced, it’s all based off honesty and being real
If there was ever a path for Theo to have a movie or single season series about his childhood, Louis would be the perfect producer/director/writer to make that happen.
I knew their vibes would be great, they’re both very outside of themselves, contemplate others and relationships, and life deeply. Introspectively, with fun spins on things. Great podcast
Ya it was nice to see
"I'm paraphrasing myself because I don't know exactly what I'm saying" has to be that best sentence to ever have been said on a podcast
And yet I knew exactly what he was trying to express... amazing
I dunno man.. Sawed off human and Rat Kings belt flex on the tfatk when Rappaport was a guest

I read this comment right as he was saying it..was so weird
It's one of those sentences that make more sense the more that you think of it.
The respect luis ck gave to theo was unbelievable. You can tell how fascinated he is with theo. You treated him so well. He complimented him, this was an amazing podcast
I agree. Louis was very engaged the whole time and made Theo feel very comfortable. Theo could say the craziest things and Louis would be right there with him no problem
Louis is fascinated with theo and how his brain works, and seems to me he truely cared about theo's insecurities in the work they do. made for a GREAT conversation.
Louis is Always sharp and engaged and enquisitive, to learn more from people he doesnt fully understand, in my experience
Yeah it reminds me when the free candy van finds a 25 year old Down syndrome kid that is just a perverted
Yes he has a good podcast. He should stick with that,, the stand up is, I dont know. Like its not him, how can he be so quick and have all the comebacks and extremely funny insight of things and stories, and absolutely none of that comes out on the stage!!?
After 18 years he sounds like a beginner. I dont get it. Like muskot fire which had me thinking, this guy is gonna be killing it in a few years. But he has gotten very good at interviews etc but the stand up is just a mish mash of what happens in his podcasts...doesnt seem to be the way to go, at all.
This is unironically one of the most sincere podcasts of all time
Agreed. You can tell they genuinely liked each other
They have beautiful chemistry.
I loved watching Theo go from being really genuine to being genuinely uncomfortable getting complimented.
@@molepup Flagrant's first new episode was Rogan, that was tremendous for completely different reasons to this one, but since then thrrrrrrrrp, mostly. I know you mean Flagrant xd

This might be the best Louis podcast appearance I've seen. Louis and Theo just really get each other and vibe so well.
I really like the ones he did with Gillis.
Theo definitely has a way of connecting with people.
The president some with Gillis is great too
“This is a history podcast, let talk presidents, in fact let’s talk all of them, in order!”
I agree. This one was great.
I love that you can tell Louis really respects Theo. Dropping all kinds of wisdom on him. I hope this friendship leads to bigger things for Theo.
Louie seems to have really come a long way in the past few years. I used to think of him as a bit cynical, jaded, and wasn't afraid to tell people "that's just stupid, what the hells wrong with you?", lol. But now he seems to actually listen to and engage with people much more so than I remember him being. He just seems to really be much more present and in the moment or something.
I guess all his therapy, psychedelic therapy, being canceled, etc, has really helped him sort of find himself.
I hope they get gay married have children together somehow, imagine what comedy the offspring of Louis and Theo would bring to earth
Much better than Bill Burr absolutely tearing Theo a new asshole Id love to see Burr and CK on a Podcast together I don't think Bills arrogance would work on CK.
@@ryanwilliams4223 they've known each other for decades, I doubt much would happen

When Louie's mom says to your dad as she's dying that she wanted him to know he wasn't alone might be the deepest loving statement Iv ever heard about someone she didn't have to care for. It's beautiful
That floored me. What a great Lady.
When Theo said “thanks for the compliment” and then before going into his story he paused again and said “it’s probably one of the best compliments I’ll ever get” was such a beautiful moment. I’m so happy for Theo.

Theo's jokes/bits/stories are so absured and hilarious that it usually catches people off guard and they really don't know what to say and the conversation just keeps going. Louis really appreciated the humor, didn't rush through a thing, asked lots of questions and really brought out the best in Theo. This episode is great.
@theovon21 hey look it's Theo Von the scammer with 1 sub
Best episode by far. I came for the comedy and stayed for the deep conversation.
I’m only 40 minutes in and I gotta say this feels like the first time the guest really let Theo be Theo without patronizing him or going along with a joke they don’t understand. Also they’ve gone pretty deep into this parent stuff but it doesn’t feel weird. Really good episode so far.
Theo sounds like complete BS.
They really should do more episodes together. Louis actually gets Theo and can really riff off of his absurdity in unpredictable but contributive ways.
There is a moment around 1:08:00 where they are talking about the angler fish and Louis perfectly takes on Theo comedic cadence saying "Latches onto that ass" Louis really is a genius
"Bitin that ass"
Contributal?

There is so much to unpack in this episode. I'm going to have to rewatch it. I've never seen anyone really "go there" with Theo as much as Louis. He seemed perfectly ok with meeting Theo in whatever memory or moment no matter the topic. It's one thing to listen to a story it's another to put yourself there. I felt like Louis was willing to do that. Pretty special.

Well said.
This is one of my favorite podcast episodes. Louis is such a good dude, the fact he took time to listen to Theo's standup and then breakdown what he's so good is such a genuine thing to do
I think I was close to crying two times during this. The honesty in this conversation about one's acceptance of themselves and their past is very rare to hear.
The one thing Louie said about loving his dog with unconditionally and then saying the same thing can be applied to loving yourself was so good.
I cried really hard when Louis was talking about how it's okay to let relationships end. I've never heard it put to simply and it wreeeeecked me

Theo and Louis being vulnerable together is free therapy. Great episode!

I didn't how it was gonna play out at first though. But the mutual admiration won me
Theo's super power is being able to create 100 brand new sentences every podcast episode
And he just lies nonstop
He’s surprisingly stupid for his age. It’s pretty embarrassing honestly. Not as embarrassing as the podcast episode Louie did with Yannis Papas, but definitely the second most annoying. Then Bert obviously, but worth it to listen to Louie talk however.
NO,hes atchalee weetardid.
I agree, he says some things that are totally unique and creative. It’s not a matter of intelligence as much as a unique logic and it’s definitely interesting and funny to listen to.
A lot of people here are being difficult but they would be hard pressed to beat Theo in some sort of objective “linguistic creativity” or “comedic creativity” competition.
@@apex7640s there nothing to learn from a lie, or to laugh at in a lie?
What Louis said about his dog, wow.
You don’t have to do anything for me, you just have to be still and take the affection I’m giving you.

He used to have an old bit where he would say something like: after you have children "fuck a dog", you couldn't care less about anything BUT your own family. I know it's just a bit but there are a lot of truths in his comedy. So for me to see him develop into a 100% focused dad, raising his children, letting them go to the world and come back to a house where now a dog is on the receiving end of this love and nourishment gives me hope, because I am still at the dog fase, pre children :D

Louie trying to figure out wtf Theo is talking about with each story Theo tells is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Not all guests really dissect his stories or ask questions and it’s so awesome to see Louie’s interest. You can tell they are both great listeners as well as great speakers.
Lol the way he looks at Theo when he says something crazy is hilarious
YES! A perfect example is at 51:05 when Louis randomly picks-up on the fact that Theo referred to _himself_ as ‘us’, so Louis asks why he does that. Then Theo drops this gem:
“it was just me , but I say ‘us’ so I don’t feel alone, I think. I do that a lot.“
*Louis* : “ 🤣 😂 😆 (slaps knee) sure! that makes sense”
I think that’s one of the reasons Louie is such a good comedian…he’s genuinely interested in life and other people’s behavior and experiences. He’s a good listener and probes further because of his strong curiosity about everything…and Theo is the same way. This conversation is so good!
This interview was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The part where Louis whipped out his phone to tell Theo about the bits that made him personally crack up made me damn proud of Theo, as hearing that from a legend like Louis is like hearing Kobe say he studies your three point shot. Honestly. When Theo started talking about how your sexuality is "yours" and Louis quietly said that's a very profound thing you're saying I had this strange reaction and got teary....
Cause he didn’t respect his once upon a time and the world knows and he wishes it could be his again. But life teaches you and that’s why he said the mdma story about it being fragile and him learning to respect it now
You see the genius of Louis here in the way he asks questions to sort of fill out Theo’s stories. He’s so observational that he’s able to bring out the funny side seeing the humor in the seemingly mundane.
Agree
I agree with what you are saying. And Louis is a bit older than Theo, he has more life experiences, so in a way he seems to be mentoring Theo. Louis is not competitive like some guys. Hopefully, he can teach Theo how not to do stupid things that could ruin your high rank in the comedy world.
I think Theo just makes up random bullshit on the spot and it’s hilarious when folks just keep priding at it and make him get more and more elaborate with that bullshit. 😂

Louis CK might be the best Theo Von guest ever. The conversation flows so naturally and they understand each other but it’s also hilarious. On other shows like Joe Rogan Theo’s an unstoppable force, but the host isn’t an immovable object so the result is more laughing at Theo being crazy. This just works so well
It wasn't until halfway through that LCK said "I should listen to something from him so I can pay him a compliment or hear him talk".... I thought they were life-long friends based on the conversation until that moment. Amazing flow of conversation
Actually got a picture, autograph and $100 tip from Louie back when I was a mechanic at Sears. He had a blowout on the highway and pulled off to the closest shop. Real cool dude, we kept his privacy by doing business in the back away from the store front, but we chatted the whole time he was there. At the time he was driving a Ford Flex, which had 20 inch wheels so we didn't have a tire in stock. He was about to buy 4 rims and 4 tires if they were in stock, but I ended up putting his spare for him, but he was still super grateful. At the time, I told him I had a fiancée and that we were huge fans; he then took a pic with me, gave me his autograph, and $100 tip. On his way out and after giving me the tip, he told me to buy her something nice, instead I got the photo framed with his autograph and the $100 bill.

What do you mean produce? You mean collaborate? I don't see how producing a special would affect the actual content of the stories. Also I'm ignorant
@@AmmoGus1 Louis edits too which can literally make or break a recorded special.
Louie is such a loving person dude, it's crazy when you hear him talk about comedy. He truly loves it and it's contagious. His love of comedy overcomes the fear that comes with being honest during a joke.
I don't have the timestamp, but there's a wide angled shot of both of them while Theo is talking and Louie is just chilling with his legs out, reclined and relaxed, and the expression on his face looks like it's saying "I really, really like this kid".
@@love.and.cinema That's the look of "Thank god they let me back on these podcasts and made my multiple dick flashes and assaults on girls look like no big deal"
@@ZeranZeran Assaults? I don't know what you're thinking of - Louis had a somewhat weird kink where he would ask women he liked to watch him whack off, weird but not near the weirdest - the issue only arose when he was too famous for that shit, a couple who said yes at the time later said they only did so because of his influence or because they worked projects where he was the boss.
Throwing around the words like that is an insult to actual assault get a grip ffs
@@ZeranZeran no one ever claimed he assaulted them.
@@ChuckChuckWood Yeah, thats 100% SA. He's a gross man and gives comedians and his people a bad name
I love this podcast, and I've rewatched multiple times.
I love watching Louis C.K. give the affirmation that Theo deserves. Shows how generous Louie is to "upcoming" and great comics.
Louie: “so youre the parent?”
Theo “Maybe I would dress up in a suit or somethin”😂😂😂😂
Adding “ pinned by “
To the name is a good move
We still know you are a scumbag trying to scam My Bro Bro Dominic over here
GTHOH with all you scambaga
That shit was hilarious Theo's humor is great
Not true deal can't talk about anything without making it weird and that's why he's great
louis has to be the best podcast guest of all time, every show he's on is unreal
@user-zd2tc4yw9o
“This isn’t about sweatin but it made me think about reptiles” and immediately Louis is intrigued lmfaoooo this episode is off to a great start
That story Theo told about a fight that he had with a kid hit a little too close to home for me. I had that same experience back in highschool, I am 34 now, where I fought another kid and we were taken to the principal's office. While waiting for the principal to call us, they made us sit next to each other which took like forever and I am not sure if they intended it just so we would have time to cool down and get bored and start talking to each other but it worked. By the time we were called to get to the principal's office we were already best mates. We continued being best friends until he died 13 years later. I miss him every day and I always get teary-eyed thinking of him. One of the best human beings ever to walk this Earth.
The chemistry between these two is unbelievable. Such a sweet, charming, insightful conversation. Loved every second of it.
Louis actually catches almost all of theos humor. He's like the first person I've seen
Riff raff
Shane Gillis and Bobby Lee are the only others that come to mind. Shane thought theo was hilarious which makes sense considering his best friend is Matt McKusker
Shane Gillis laughed at everything Theo said during their first podcast.
Louis has been such a pivotal character in my life. Listening to Chewed Up, Hilarious, Shameless and Louis on O&A id all have on my ipod rdy for any flight to help me relax. After my mother passed his stand up was the first thing to make me laugh again. Thank you Louis for decades of laughter, joy and overall sense of positivity.
sorry for your loss mate
Sorry for your loss. Comedy has done the same for me. P.S. I like your handle

There's a go fund me link on my youtube and Instagram pages if anyone is able to help. Thank you for everyone's kind words.
So many comics keep having the same conversation on podcasts about their process, but Louie breaks through to the entire dynamic; the audience, discomfort.
His series was extremely deep and emotionally intelligent.
Great interview.
This is unlike any other of these podcasts that I've seen Theo do. It's like watching Harry Potter talk to Dumbledore.
That is an absolute beautiful comparison and very accurate!
👍💯
More like Harry Pothead x)
😂😂😂😂😂❤
In terms of story telling, narrative, and entertaining/clever conversation, Louis and Theo are really cut from the same cloth. Their dynamic is on another level and it's cool seeing the angles.
Theo is a Charakter of Mr CK, that became conscious
I have rarely seen someone get so many genuine laughs out of Louis
this is true!
he's so funny men theo is funny genuinely
You’re probably young. Go watch old opie and Anthony clips. You’re welcome.
@@cbrreezzyy69 I’ve listened to a million O & A clips. I stand by my comment.
i think they both have the "small to average dick energy" to women....we are the ones who cant hold it back and tell the hot women right away how much we like em...it just boils over... thats why there is this amazing , epic vibe between them...best podcast ever
plz make movies together
This is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite pod of all time. Period.
I've watched it maybe a dozen times. It's a great conversation/experience.
Watching Louie's expressions to Theo's thoughts is the best part of the first 5 minutes of this cast. Watch Louie with the sound off when Theo starts talking about putting his hand on the back of someone's neck. SO good.
Gonna have to watch that again, haha
@@jaime7203 It's hilarious! Louie's hand motions, following Theo's thoughts, and then going into the hallway hug....I've rewatched the first 10 so many times.

had exactly the same reaction
@@lynno1974i was so lost when Theo mentioning putting his hand around the back of people's necks to reassure them lol.
I kept thinking it was going to turn into an S&M confession
Louis' mom left him the healing gift of compassion. Like on her way out, she left it!
“Who taught you about sex? Did you have a mentor?”
“Thanks for asking man”
Theo was so ready for this conversation lmao
The little smile on ck face is everything 😂😂
I don't think these guys realize that not everyone is as perverted as they are. Actually it seems like CK was almost normal up to a point and then changed.
@@beestingza how do you know? You making this statement cause you are not into it? How do you know how many people are or are not? The advice Louie gives Theo in the end is the most sincere, realest thing. Theo is truly gifted, unique, & a rising star indeed. So excited to see how far you go, Theo. The way you share your thoughts, vulnerabilities & past wounds is really so refreshing. We love you, man.
agreed.
29:43 When Louis asks Theo if he had a sexual mentor, and Theo just responds so genuinely “Yeah man, thanks for askin” that smile on Louis’ face is so sweet. Theo has such an authentic way of disarming people.
hahaha seriously! pretty great ep
Damn i missed it. That was so genuine and hilarious! Genuinely hilarious..
I was just thinking the same thing when I read your comment. You see that expression on Louis face several times throughout the podcast.
Yeah and Theo answer was about a time his dad shit himself so I don't think he even answered the question.
@@winchester-1877 I saw expressions on Louis' face a bunch of times in this episode I'm not sure I have seen before. Like when he throws his head back in genuine laughter a few times, his face softens.
It probably wouldn't have been your first thought, but Theo and Louis together is actually a perfect, magical mix of personalities that you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
I don't think anyone could have foreseen this, Louis said he just saw some of Theos comedy for the first time after booking this podcast lol. Great convo for sure, Louis is always interesting af
Check out him and Shane gillis on their presidents podcast series
The movie isn’t great at all. A neurotic Jewish person. Everybody has problems or addictions, but it’s hard to feel sorry for this typical crybaby. You’ll know what I mean. Think of the red headed Jewish guy that can’t get his hands dirty on Family Guy.

This is one of the greatest podcasts ever recorded, this specific episode. Most of the time people don't know how to respond to Theo's bizarre metaphors and descriptions and they tend to just dismiss him or laugh at the absurdity of what he is saying and move on. Louis however, he seems to understand most of what Theo is saying and he also makes an attempt to understand when he doesn't get it right away. His curiosity and interest in Theo's personality and discussion are refreshing and interesting. I think these two have a very unique chemistry and there might be legs for them to do something creative together.
This is the most sincere Theo episode I've ever seen. They both seem completely at ease with each other. Masks dropped. They are who we see.
He just did it again with Dana Carvey! It is amazing !
This conversation feels like two therapists curing each other at the same time. Beautiful.
It’s so awesome to see Louis notice and appreciate Theos genius the way we all did when we first found Theo ❤
Such a good talk. Love the way Theo always takes the conversation so honestly, naturally and whimsically.
1:51:45
Louis really nailed it here!
When you change to make a situation work, then it's no longer you that is experiencing it, it's a false version of you.
This creates a disconnect between who you are and who you're pretending to be.
If you can't be yourself while you do something, it's not worth doing no matter what the potential rewards appear to be.
Perfect
He really hit some solid stuff. For anybody keeping score on philosophy out there, he was, to my ear, really flying close to some David Velleman, Christine Korsgaard, Harry Frankfurt, and a lot of stuff in philosophy of agency and right action. I would pay a lot of money to hear Louis doing some kind of interview with David Velleman.
Never seen Louis this chill and pleasant. I usually find him funny but its a different energy. This is almost father-like, talking to a son.
Totally, really like a dad at times
Definitely
Exactly what I was thinking! So cute.🥲
I fuckin wish my dad would talk to me like that then if that's thr cade cuz he just sits on his couch watching TV and doesn't acknowledge anyone. Some dads arr cool like that tho yea.
I've noticed that Louie is really good at matching people's energy, no matter who he is interviewing with, etc...he is most definitely a high grade empath
Being witness to Louie just discovering Theo for himself is a joy to behold.
i saw someone else say this, and they were right: these two have such great chemistry because louis is a connoisseur of the absurdities of human beings, and theo is a theater of the absurd. theres really no better way of putting it
These guys are locked from the first second of the conversation. You can see Louis really studying Theo's brain. And Theo is just being Theo.
The fact Louis watched Theo’s standup the night before and referenced specific jokes has to be the one of the coolest things to ever happen in comedy. A legend like Louis give props to Theo whose extremely underrated
I thought it was Theo, who watched Louis.

I don't know dude, did you listen to that one where he's asking Donald Rumsfeld repeatedly if he's a lizard?
This was great. Refreshing to see a guest as genuinely interested in Theo and courteous to Theo as Theo always is to his guests.
So cool to see Louis lean into Theos bits and stories rather than just killing them with logic, Burr needs to take notes. This is improv gold 🙌🏼
The thing with Burr is that a notable part of his comedic approach is that super confrontational, dickish side of himself. That is a large part of what propelled his career. When Burr brings this into an interview/podcast that is not prepared for it, it can get awkward. Like that time on this podcast. That side of Burr obviously does not mesh with Theo's style, at least they did not find a middle ground. One the one hand, a show/podcast should service their guest. That is just how things work in entertainment. On the other hand, you'd think Burr would want to pivot when his style isn't working in a certain context.
Also maybe Louie prepared and listened to his albums and got Theo’s style of humor and ol’ Billy red sacks just tried to wing it and didn’t get it
Bill has taken notes, sort of. He's more of the chill Tom Segura kind of challenge everything now. Mushrooms helped, maybe someday he'll take a flood dose and write the best comedy special of all time.
It's the fear that killed it, Bill had a sort of spiritual initiation with Tyson though. I'm glad too, hes a great writer.
Great conversation ! Interesting.
Louis and Theo just flow on this conversation... The talk about growing up, sexuality, their parents, and their home towns. It's just so real and helpful to hear about them. It's comedy yet personal about them.
I love that theo never worries about what people will think or say. He's unapologetically himself
I think he cares deeply about what people say or think, but he's courageous and willing to be vulnerable in the hopes of finding connection.
@@kyptokrit1630maybe he just enjoys thinking and acting weird, unusual for the rush of it. (Surprise effect tickles the brain so much, that's why we like new things and comedic deception, absurdity).
You know, he has history of substance abuse and since he went sober that's the best high he can get.
Louis is still good in my books. Thanks @TheoVon for doing this man some respect.
Louis CK is so intelligent, well spoken and overall interesting. I wish he would start his own podcast
I prefer this way as a guest. Everybody will want Louis on he doesn't want that work load haha
Less is more
Seeing him infrequently keeps him rare, and legend status. Although his podcast would undoubtedly be amazing. But I think less is more with Louis
You always have O and A...
Nothing is better than when a guest comes and totally gets theos vibe.
Two comic geniuses, Idk how Bill didn't get it, i think he was too on edge, and didn't realize theo is just saying silly shit to make us laugh not because he really believes it.
It’s podcasts like this that are the reason podcasting in general is so popular. Feels so personal and honest like it’s not for an audience at all . Just two fellows interested in each other and getting to know each other.
It’s so boring!!!
Podcasts are dead but if you get good people on one then sure it's listenable. I actually hate podcasts get a bunch of rich pretentious douchebags in a room and they all talk fucking nonsense and fake laugh on bad jokes for 3 hours.
100% that’s why podcast are so great.
Theo would of got as much out of this (def more) as the listeners.
That’s why I love Louie so much, he is real. Gave some real solid advise on this one. Carer, parental trauma, masturbation 😂
Real recognise Real.
Gang Gang
The best podcasts are the ones where you feel like you're a part of the conversation, and it all feels very natural
You can tell how much Louie admires Theo. Their comedy is so similar that they riff effortlessly
It's so rare for someone to connect with Theo and UNDERSTAND how brilliant he is as a comedian. This conversation was extremely enjoyable to listen to. (they should make a podcast seriously)
Except that Louie told Theo to focus on his standup over podcasting.
Theo's standup is nowhere near as honed at Louie's. Theo recognized that when he saw Louie perform and felt so far off from getting to that level himself, but Louie recognized Theo's uncommon comedic genius and could see that Theo could become unstoppable like Louie was in just 4 years if he focused on honing his standup.
Theo with Louie's level of stand up craft would blow every other comic out of the water.
@@toteispoe4 this is true. To add to that, Theo's conversational storytelling skills make for GREAT podcasts, so I also hope he considers a duo podcast with someone like Louie that enables and adds to Theos genius

It's the best. Anyone that's a fan of "Louie" (the FX show) knows Louis' humor can get really f'n weird sometimes.
