I can't believe St Peter is not number one. Saved the Penguins series and the playoffs to win Stanley Cup! Considering the circumstances, I would have to give it to him. Great list tho
Great list. I would've found a spot for Leafs backup Paul Harrison's unbelievable glove save versus the Habs in the 1979 playoffs; 2 seconds left in the 3rd period, sending the game to OT. He was forced into the game due to an injury to Mike Palmateer.
What I find stunning is fans saying that none of the saves made in the Leafs vs Rangers game last night looked difficult. That guy stonewalled 56 shots and made it look easy. He was in perfect position for every shot and guys were faulting the Leafs for it. Stunning performance. Even if that guy never has a good game again that was one of if not the greatest display of skill I've ever seen in the net. Bravo.
Neuvirth had i think save of the year against the wild as time was expiring in either January or Feb of 2016. I played against Manny Legace in Roller Hockey and ran Bob the hound Kellys rink here in Delaware facing him in league games. Scary to think these guys were marginal NHLers but at around 60 the hounds hands and shot were insane. Another great vid thanks
I've seen a lot of old timers hockey and the last thing to go on these guys is their shot. I remember watching Gilbert Perreault at an event 20 years ago and he could still weave his way thru the defence and fire a bullet. It was amazing. I'm going to see an NHL alumni event in Niagara Falls in January and I can't wait to see who shows who up. These retired guys still know how to entertain a crowd. Thanks for watching, Yokes27.
I agree with a lot of this list. The only thing I would change would be to put varlomovs save against Crosby on the list and to put pietrangelos save a little higher
HAHA, I'm the worst goalie! I love the position and I admire goalies, but I was horrible at it. I was ok at stopping low shots but anything up high was pretty much a sure goal for the shooter.
Malarchuck was one of the most impressive goalies I ever had the pleasure of watching him move across the crease when playing for the Washington Capitals.
Michal Neuvirth's stick save vs the Minnesota Wild a year or so back. Help the Flyers win that game. The shot was point blank and still was not going to be a goal. GO FLYERS!!!
I had forgotten about that one when I made the video. Someone else did point that out to me as well. It would have been on there, if I had remembered it. Sorry, Michael. Thanks for watching.
When I was little I saw Martin Prusek of the Blue Jackets bite on a deke during a breakaway but he dove back and got a piece of it somehow. I don't remember who they were playing but I'll always remember Prusek
Unfortunately no, I was pretty young and our seats were literally the last row in the arena, so the play itself was blurry until they showed the replay, but they only showed Prusek diving, not the shooter.
It's not deliberate whenever I show positive or negative stuff about teams. If they have something I think is worthy of my list, then it's in. If I thought the best back up saves ever were from a collection of Sabres 'tenders, then that's what it would have been. If I ever show a video with Buffalo getting scored on a lot, I not trying to attack them, it's just whatever video I find that I use. Thanks for watching.
That's a beauty, one of my all time favourite saves. But Freddie was starting for the Flames that season, so I felt like I couldn't include him in this back ups only list. Great suggestion though, Matthew! Thanks for watching.
Dude number 9 is not Alex Ovechkin. First he is a right handed shot and the player is a left handed shot. Second of all he is number 8 and not 9. Look at 6:41 to 6:46 for proof.
In his rookie season, Fleury was a back up to Caron, but that's it. He's pretty much had the keys to the crease since getting drafted. I'm not really sure about the save you're referring to. I'll have to look it up. Thanks for watching and commenting Quinn the swagger.
You know your business, but you are mistaken...Bruce Racine was the guy who watched Fuhr take the net that entire season. Casey was picked up after Fuhr got hurt.
OH! I forgot about those two saves he made in OT vs NJ. Good call, RJ! That was the turning point of the series. Canes won game 5 and then game 6 to win the series. Thanks for watching.
TopCornerHockey Kevin Weekes played for the Devils too. He played a lot when Marty got hurt in 09. The local skating rink has a Kevin Weekes jersey hanging up next to a Stevens, Elias, and Niedermayer jersey. Not to mention a Brodeur jersey
Thanks again, Carl. I appreciate it when people take the time to watch and comment. It means a lot to me when people get engaged in what I'm doing here.
You mean the one when he was in Nashville against Toronto? Great save but the game was like 7-0 at that point. Thanks for commenting and watching, Ryan.
Are you referring to his spin around, stick save against the Leafs? I thought about it, but the game was a blow out. Thanks for watching, RaidRainer Gaming.
TopCornerHockey yeah that was the save I was talking about. But it was a close game. 4-3 when he made the save Edit: I checked the video and Nashville was up 4-3 and the save saved the game. Great Video BTW
There is plenty of room for a part 2, or a follow up of some kind in the future. Hockey is always changing. Thanks for the encouragement, imkillo. I appreciate it.
This list is about Back up Goalies. Hasek was a back up for a very brief period of his career. Although he made some great saves in the 92 finals as a back up, I don't think too many people would have expected to see The Dominator in a back up video. Nor do I think the saves he made as a back up would qualify him here. Thanks for watching.
Hedberg came in late in 2001. Pittsburgh had been using JS Aubin and Garth Snow up until then. Hedberg then played all 18 games in the playoffs that year for Pit as they eliminated Washington (of course) then Buffalo before losing to NJ. Tugger was in CBJ by this time. He was taken in the expansion draft of 2000.
A couple of examples come to mind right away, but it might be hard to find this info. I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching, too.
If Caron is not number one I'm leaving..... that's damn right.
Easy pick for #1. We've all seen that Caron save a million times and we still can't get over it. Awesome save! Thanks for watching, Zenon.
This is excellent, appreciate the research that went into some of this.
#1 is one of the greatest saves of all time!
I can't believe St Peter is not number one. Saved the Penguins series and the playoffs to win Stanley Cup! Considering the circumstances, I would have to give it to him. Great list tho
Fun to watch those amazing saves!
Great list. I would've found a spot for Leafs backup Paul Harrison's unbelievable glove save versus the Habs in the 1979 playoffs; 2 seconds left in the 3rd period, sending the game to OT. He was forced into the game due to an injury to Mike Palmateer.

At least u did make mention of the Varlamov save
You had the two penguins saves mixed up. Not bc of the save itself but bc of what “The Save” by the ol St. Pete did.
just came across your channel, great stuff. Love hockey and love the creative videos. You've earned a new subscriber, keep it up
Thanks, Tommy! Thanks very nice of you! I appreciate it. I hope you find the future content on my channel enjoyable.
Neuvirth had i think save of the year against the wild as time was expiring in either January or Feb of 2016. I like Hasek glove save on Lemieux... when he was at Chicago :-)
That was a beauty save. Not too many guys have stopped 66 on a breakaway. Hasek and Hayward might be only two I can think of. Thanks for watching.
I agree with a lot of this list. The only thing I would change would be to put varlomovs save against Crosby on the list and to put pietrangelos save a little higher
Great analysis.
The best save from a back up is from Jean-Claude Van Dam in "Sudden Death".
That awkward silence after he says “thanks for watching...”
I gotta take a breath, dude. But I'll see if I can tighten it up. Thanks for watching, Y Football.
Not really that awkward
Y Football that wasn't awkward at all you fuckin idiot
it was pretty awkward
Sorry i tend to agree, breathing is way overrated.
I used to watch this guy when I was a kid
I would say topcornerhockey is the best goalie tender
HAHA, I'm the worst goalie! I love the position and I admire goalies, but I was horrible at it. I was ok at stopping low shots but anything up high was pretty much a sure goal for the shooter.
Bruce Racine was Fuhr's back-up in 95-96. Jon Casey was playing in the IHL that year.
I agree with the #1 save!
Man Kipper didnt get a rest much in Calgary at all. Barely ever saw his backups play.
No he didn't. Sutter, Playfair and Keenan all played Kipper's balls off. Thanks for watching.
After you say thanks for watching you pause... anyone else think he is waiting for you to say you're welcome
You forgot Nashville's backup, 2015-16 season I'm pretty sure, also check 16-17 I remember some mind-blowing saves
So many to choose from. A Top 10 list really limits what you can do. Had to leave a lot of great saves on the editing room floor. Thanks for watching.
Carter Hutton in '15/'16
but he went to the Blues the next season.
He had an incredible save, much like the Malarchuk one in the video
Malarchuck was one of the most impressive goalies I ever had the pleasure of watching him move across the crease when playing for the Washington Capitals.
Scott Darling vs Nashville Game 1 2015.
Good call, Joseph. Back-ups need some love, don't they? Thanks for commenting and watching.
And they won the cup with him again
Michal Neuvirth's stick save vs the Minnesota Wild a year or so back. Help the Flyers win that game. The shot was point blank and still was not going to be a goal. GO FLYERS!!!
I had forgotten about that one when I made the video. Someone else did point that out to me as well. It would have been on there, if I had remembered it. Sorry, Michael. Thanks for watching.
Michael Rudolph how about Jacob voracek being robbed by Josh Harding go wild
I was at that game it was awesome
When I was little I saw Martin Prusek of the Blue Jackets bite on a deke during a breakaway but he dove back and got a piece of it somehow. I don't remember who they were playing but I'll always remember Prusek
I don't remember that. Do you remember who the Jackets were playing, Kyle? Thanks for watching.
Unfortunately no, I was pretty young and our seats were literally the last row in the arena, so the play itself was blurry until they showed the replay, but they only showed Prusek diving, not the shooter.
showing some Buffalo sabres some love in this video!!! about time Kurt!!
My favorite is fred brathwaite on Maltby
That's a beauty, one of my all time favourite saves. But Freddie was starting for the Flames that season, so I felt like I couldn't include him in this back ups only list. Great suggestion though, Matthew! Thanks for watching.
Remember when he uploaded he was such a good RUclipsr.......
Know this is a recent one, but that rittich save on fiala was amazing today
fun fact: fluery started the game where caron made the save, but got pulled after giving up 4 straight goals
Dude number 9 is not Alex Ovechkin. First he is a right handed shot and the player is a left handed shot. Second of all he is number 8 and not 9. Look at 6:41 to 6:46 for proof.
You're right. Not sure what I was thinking when I said that. It's pretty obvious it's not OV. Thanks for watching, Price fan Matt 31.
I was just about to say that i was like buddy the guy who shot that is left handed
Price fan Matt 31 Looks like Orlov.
That clip of Enroth's saves is back from the 2012-2013 season. It's actually Mike Ribeiro getting robbed with the glove.
ruclips.net/video/kBFR_7s7cAM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/kBFR_7s7cAM/видео.html fan Matt 31
the Caron save is my favorite
I liked the last one🥇🥇👌💀
What about the Flurry save vs New Jersey
In his rookie season, Fleury was a back up to Caron, but that's it. He's pretty much had the keys to the crease since getting drafted. I'm not really sure about the save you're referring to. I'll have to look it up. Thanks for watching and commenting Quinn the swagger.
Patrick roy is my favorite goalie of all time an Chris Osgood is my favorite back up goalie
thanks you @ Price fan Matt 31
Man, you missed Manny Legace. Backing up 3 big names (Osgood, Hasek, Joseph) He should get honorable mention at least.
Peter mrázek saves it with his stick agents Tampa bays dan Boyle in the playoffs
I've had a few people remind me of that one, Aiden. I can't get them all in, right? Thanks for watching.
Are you from St. Catharines I noticed you are wearing an icedogs hat my favorite team
I do live in Niagara. Been here a couple years now. Thanks for watching, Brandon.
You know your business, but you are mistaken...Bruce Racine was the guy who watched Fuhr take the net that entire season. Casey was picked up after Fuhr got hurt.
Flyers back up goalie (I can't spell it ) neiverth I think did exactly what number 1 did but they had a open net
I'd have to see if I can find that clip somewhere. I don't remember it. Thanks for commenting and watching, Animal master 101.
TopCornerHockey thx for responding
ruclips.net/video/Q0y6Cf64hSw/видео.html 2:30. TopCornerHockey
Nuevirth is how you spell it
Mr. Kid nope
Where was Kevin Weekes in the honourable mentions? Game five, second round 2002 vs. NJ.
You must be from NJ, Kevin. I've been the Garden State many times. Lots of cool, Revolutionary War stuff to see and I like that. Thanks for watching.
The best was the last shot. WOW😮
I know, right! Caron's back just arches so much! Thanks for commenting and watching, Steffan.
It's you again😃
how about goalies who get blown out of the building in one game and come back the next night with a shut-out?
norm maracle was supposed to be the answer for the red wings
He was a good AHL goalie, but really never had a good shot at becoming a #1 in the NHL. Thanks for watching, Carl.
TopCornerHockey no problem. Great videos!!!
Thanks again, Carl. I appreciate it when people take the time to watch and comment. It means a lot to me when people get engaged in what I'm doing here.
Carter hutton’s paddle save
You mean the one when he was in Nashville against Toronto? Great save but the game was like 7-0 at that point. Thanks for commenting and watching, Ryan.
I prefer to call Back-up goalies what my favorite mentor Guillaume Duclair calls back-ups. "The Back-up Bitch". I think Ed Belfour did too
Haha, never heard that before. Wouldn't surprise me Eddie used that language, though. Thanks for watching, Jason.
video starts @ 1:50
November 14th 2015 Jake Allen's glove save against the Blackhawks
Super save on Dano! The guys on TV thought he scored! Good suggestion, Will. Thanks for watching.
TopCornerHockey No problem😉👉
Cam Talbot | 2015 | @ Washington
If you listen close you can hear the guy inhale every sentence and it cannot be unheard
rip Buffalo Memorial Auditorium aka (the AUD) best arena ever!!
That was a great ol' barn. Awesome acoustics!
Why buffalo did not keep lindback is beyond me he was decent
Carter Hutton?
Are you referring to his spin around, stick save against the Leafs? I thought about it, but the game was a blow out. Thanks for watching, RaidRainer Gaming.
TopCornerHockey yeah that was the save I was talking about. But it was a close game. 4-3 when he made the save
Edit: I checked the video and Nashville was up 4-3 and the save saved the game. Great Video BTW
I'm glad you looked it up because my memory is WAY off! Thanks for doing that. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and commenting.
There is plenty of room for a part 2, or a follow up of some kind in the future. Hockey is always changing. Thanks for the encouragement, imkillo. I appreciate it.
1992-93 grant fuhr Dominic hasek best duo in history! go sabres!!
That's a cool video idea, best goaltending tandems. Thanks for the suggestion!
Dominik Hašek????? 😐 the legend of golie
Haward is the ducks commentator I'm a DUCKS fan
Yeah, he's been the Ducks colour guy for a long time now. I used to play in his, 3 on 3, sponsored tournaments back in the 90s. Thanks for watching.
lindback was OK for us I don't know why we didn't keep him around????
Of course number one is against the flyers 🤦🏼♂️
hedberg came in for tugnutt i think ??. in the 2001 playoffs to eliminate new Jersey I think??? and than sadly ......my sabres
Minnesota's Josh Harding against flyers Jakob voracek
Must have forgotten about that one. Thanks for watching.
Phillip grurdener Dallas stars
I don't remember that one. Sorry, Jake. Thanks for watching.
The last shot was in
You think so? I don't. It's a miraculous save by Caron. Never gets old. Thanks for watching and commenting, Gaming Gods.
I once saved a cat from a tree.. Does that count. ?
Dominik Hašek? o.O
Yarmr Jagr I’m lmao how he says it
Haha, I don't know how else to say it.
TopCornerHockey nah man it’s alright I wasn’t meaning to be rude but I think it’s pronounced Yamr Yagr
Fake Neonz I think it's yar oh Meer yahgur
Lindback was a bum. Especially in his days with Tampa Bay
Troy Grosenick is good but he is no Aaron Dell
Waste of time. You need the game audio. No fan reaction.
Atlanta isn't evan a real team
Heath Trayhorne Somebody doesn't know any hockey history
In 2011 the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg
Bro the thrashers used to be a team until they moved to Winnipeg bringing the jets back yet again
how about goalies who get blown out of the building in one game and come back the next night with a shut-out?
A couple of examples come to mind right away, but it might be hard to find this info. I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching, too.
Carter Hutton?
