- The "Aircraft & Avionics Update 2" for MSFS greatly improved the default Boeing 747-8, so we're taking it out for a flight tutorial, this time from OTHH Doha (Qatar) to OOMS Muscat (Oman) as Qatar Cargo flight 465. As usual we're doing a full startup from cold'n'dark, cover all the systems, FMC, autopilot etc. I hope you enjoy and thanks for being here!

The excessive climb performance was caused by this "improvement mod": flightsim.to/file/50515/asobo-b747-8i-realism-mod
Even though it has a 5 star rating, I don't recommend using it. Engine power is a lot more reasonable without the mod. Also the spoilers warning during landing seems to be caused by the mod.
I was gonna ask about that because my stock 747-8 doesn't have that crazy performance. It eats a lot of runway on takeoff! Good to know it's working correctly, though.
@@thatsrich944 Yes, that's realistic and how it's supposed to be. I think the author of the mod did some more tweaking to engine power, but still I'm flying without it. Cheers

on my progres page i dont have the distance to TOD, how come you have it, did you fill something in the fmc for that?
It should appear when you are at cruise altitude (that has to be entered correctly in the FMC) and when your flightplan (LEGS page) is properly setup, probably without discontinuities. That's all I can think of...
@@SimulationChannelDeluxe thanks, i made indeed a mistake in the flightplan, and it wil appear afther take off. couple more changes on this plane like a fuel and load page and direct link with simbrief like the salty and this plane would be perfect :)

Not possible, it's an advanced airliner simulation.
13:45 CG where can i find that on my simbrief load out?
The CG isn't available on the simBrief OFP, only when using the "simBrief Loader" tool for Parallel 42's Flow Pro. Usually you have to load the plane manually in the Weight & Balance window and make sure the CG is within limits. The CG field in the FMC is auto-fill out.
@@SimulationChannelDeluxe yeah i had the same issue, i changes the fuel and pay load and it didnt let me fil the CG, you have to enter the CG before changing the fuel and payload, im gonna look if i can get simbrief loader

Nice tutorial. My LNAV does not seem to toggle anymore. Any idea as to why? The correct altitude does not display on main screen either.
I did 3 or 4 flights now in the B748 and didn't have LNAV issues yet. Is your flightplan error free? Also for some departures LNAV won't arm on the ground and you have to fly via HDG first.
@@SimulationChannelDeluxe I'm using the world map for flights. Airplane is set on runway for takeoff. I set the altitude and it does not display on main screen either.

That was a great video, I know i will certainly watch it again to try and learn how to fly this plane. I never have been interested in learning how to fly it until this new update, but its really a good plane now.

Hey man how do you recover from using "travel to" feature with this plane? Every time I do (I skip the cruise obviously on super long hauls), flight plan gets all messed up and the plane won't descend automatically
Hi mate! Actually I never tried the travel feature and I'm sure it will bog up the planes in MSFS. Maybe better try the sim rate acceleration feature. Up to 4x should be stable and greatly reduces the flight times.
As always your video is excellent; thank you. Since the update to this aircraft it is now possible to automatically transfer Simbrief flight plan data into the FMC. Forgive me pointing toward another tutorial but it is easier and clearer than me trying to cover the topic. Microsoft Flight Simulator channel has a full explanation under the heading "Tutorial: Simbrief Integration for Boeing 747-8 and Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner". It is so clear and precise even I was able to understand how to follow the instructions.

Is it possible to download Asobo AAU2 somewhere please, or is it only possible after installing MSFS 2024 and there go to the Marketplace and select it - I read it, but I don't know... please advise, because I only see instructions everywhere, but not how to download

There is no seperate download for the AAU updates, they're embedded in the "normal" sim updates that get downloaded when starting MSFS.

Hé man great video. I have an issue that after take-off when I turn on the autopilot everything seems to work except the climb/descent speed of the aircraft. After I turn it on, the plane suddenly starts to descent as fast as possible even if I click altitude hold or try to adjust the climb/descent rate. Do you know anything that could cause this and how to fix it?

thank you this helped me a lot and i got all the useful info i needed and not some avgeek talking about the plane for 4 hours straight, also how do i know what thurst limitation and engine temp to use when taking off?
Thanks, glad it helped. Regarding the thrust lim page, in real life they have calculators and other means that we as flight simmers don't have access to. There are some calcs online for the A320 family, but none for Boeings afaik. So I only guess those values and as the 747-8 is so powerful, I derate the engines a lot ;) Cheers

Hi! I'm running a Ryzen 5600, Radeon RX 6700, B550 Mobo and 32GB DDR4-3600 RAM. Also having V-Sync on, capped at 40FPS. Cheers
Oh yeah also having MSFS installed on a Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe. That might also improve performance, plus hours of settings tweaking ;)
Thanks for the video. I think you should declare who your target audience is at the beginning, as I think this is for a more intermediate flying audience.. As a beginner, I thought "Full Flight Tutorial" would be good for me, but actually I found that you blasted through all the options without explaining too much. For example, when putting in your flight plan, it would be nice if you call out 1) What this input computer is called? 2) What some of the different keys do in general 3) More details and explanation about why you chose the options you did.
I can follow your examples just fine, but I didn't really learn anything. This is more monkey see monkey do.

Yeah that's right, my airliner tutorials are never targetted at the absolute beginner and some experiences with the FMC, autopilot modes etc. should have been made already. There are also more in depth tutos I did, like for the PMDG 737, FBW A32NX, the A310 or the ATRs. Sorry if this one didn't help you out that much. Cheers
