The most likely character to beat Sonic imo is eggman. He has already done it multiple times. He did it in forces, he did it in sonic adventure 2 and he did it in unleashed. All those times sonic just got lucky.
@@yay29823In sonic forces the zavok illusion was just being stupid by letting sonic out, in sonic adventure 2 he just had plot armour since he somehow learnt how to chaos control out of the capsule just by watching shadow do it earlier. He also somehow teleported directly to the location where knuckles was. And in unleashed eggman could have just sent sonic out into space away from earth.
I feel like the video is more so talking about beating Sonic in a fight than outsmarting him, and I'll defend the Chaos Control instance since Sonic is treated as Shadow's equal through the game and Shadow himself hints he might be a "Ultimate Life Form" himself(albeit one made by nature instead of technology) That said I completely agree Eggman can beat Sonic Both in Sonic & Knuckles and Advance 2 Eggman's final mecha was so powerful Super Sonic couldnt harm it, needing it's own missiles to do the job, and the later and the boss of Sonic 3 were both capable of damaging Super Sonic very badly And both Gmerl and Metal Overlord who were his creations had Super Sonic on the ropes and if Eggman had sided with them instead of with Sonic they would have won

I was very happy when I saw that another being on this planet also respects the great potential Tails has; he is the second best Engineer in the Sonic universe + he was with Sonic in most of his adventures, so he must have learned some fighting skills or even ideas for his new inventions (like the 7 additional tails he made in Sonic Prime) In short, change my mind
You know, to be honest, before Frontiers, I thought Sonic was underrated, because unlike the others, he didn't have many special abilities to be more experienced. All he could do for a long time was slam his head and curl up into a ball, which everyone could do, and his special moves, such as Sonic Wind, no longer appeared outside of the games he used them. Now that the frontier has finally given him a special move, he's really in a league of its own. Although now they need to reappear in the games so that the new combat system gives them a few more new moves, because now Sonic has more of them, and we need to level it out.
Honestly, I think all of these characters have a chance, but some have more of a chance than others, and if it were to come to it, I think Sonic would still win at the end of the day.
@@NoCreativeNameAtAll to be fair Shadow has most of Sonics abilities in Frontiers. Energy projection? Check (Chaos Spear, Lance, Blast, etc.) An enhanced state that doesn't need the Emeralds? Check (Chaos Boost.) Not to mention Shadow can teleport without an Emerald using his Chaos Snap technique, has a healing factor and can just take off his Inhibitor Rings.

i pretty much agree with everything on this list, when you think about it, the main reason sonic wins as many fights as he does, is because he's SKILLED. shadow for example, pretty much has a clear advantage over sonic. but sonic has the skill and experience to pretty much close the gap. debatably the same case for silver, blaze and knuckles. i honestly miss the older eras where you could actually fight sonic himself and even win against him, showing that he can actually be beaten (adventure, heroes, rush, etc) and it kinda sucks that they nerf the characters. like why doesn't silver use his psychokinesis ON SONIC in their generations fight? why did they nerf infinite in their fight so bad? its kinda wild to be honest

My opinion on all of these: Shadow - Definitely. Not only does he match Sonic's speed, but he has a lot more abilities at his disposal that can only aid him, like Chaos Spear or Chaos Blast. Not to mention Sonic's fried if Shadow takes off his rings. Silver - Yeah, I agree with this one, but that's because Silver's overpowered. Man has the ability to hold anyone in place with no way of escaping his grasp (other than someone interfering), and then throw them around as he pleases, no wonder Sonic got beaten to near death twice until Amy and Shadow interfered. I feel like everyone always overlooks how powerful his abilities are. Blaze - Ehhh, I'm not fully convinced. Her abilities were on par with Sonic's in Rush sure, and she does have her own set of Emeralds + Super form, but she hasn't been explored all that much to make me think she's on par with Sonic. Infinite - He's also been proven to beat Sonic, and I believe that with the power of the Phantom Ruby he can, but they just held him back for the plot way too much in Forces. He can definitely do some damage though. Knuckles - The problem here is that I feel like Knuckles is too much strength over speed. Like, Sonic could definitely outspeed him in a fight to get the easy win. In the case that he CAN catch up with Sonic, maybe he could stand a chance. He's definitely beefy enough. Tails - I see the vision, but it misses the mark by quite a bit. I believe that Tails' knowledge of Sonic can only get him anywhere if he has prep time before the fight in order to make some Sonic-stopping gear. Otherwise, his skills, abilities and knowledge can't get him to much heights in terms of beating Sonic. He's just a kid after all. But, another bonus point is that if we're being realistic, out of all these candidates Tails is probably the only one that Sonic would be hesitant to fight, which would logically give Tails the upper hand. In the end, I understand the logic, but it needs some heavy specifics for me to buy into it.
The problem with Shadow and Silver is that Sonic has been shown to be stronger than both of them Sonic was stated to be faster and more skilled than Shadow, however Shadow was stated to be more intelligent Also Sonic does have loads of abilities, and Shadow isn't even sure if he could beat Sonic without his Inhibitor Rings(Sonic was able to beat Ultimate Emerl, aka Emerl with all 7 Chaos Emeralds and one that was unstable, considering how Shadow w/o IR would also be unstable, the fight would end like the other one, especially since Emerl was shown to be stronger than Shadow) With Silver, it depends Silver is weaker than Sonic(In their first encounter, Sonic beat Silver, however Silver caught Sonic off guard after Sonic was worried about Silver) So unless Silver is manages to catch Sonic off guard, Sonic would win Tails was absolutely false tho, Sonic has the upper hand in almost everyway, however Sonic would be hesitant on fighting Tails, and similar to Silver, unless Tails catches Sonic off guard, Sonic would win Knuckles was pretty much wrong, I mean bro got one tapped by Blaze Also for Blaze, while she's a little below currently, she would definitely put up a good fight Infact, the characters that have the highest chance of beating Sonic here other than infinite is Shadow and Blaze since they are near Sonic's level

Correction: shadow doesn't match his speed, he uses the air shoes to even be fast. And even then if shadow would take off his inhibitor rings he'd get tired almost instantly. Honestly, I can agree with all of these. Dont get me wrong. Sonic is FAR from being an underdog, but if you were to compare his power with that of other characters, he would probably be in the top 5. If you compare his wits with others, then he's above average at best. Sonic has a lot of strengths, but he has a lot of weaknesses that other characters can exploit in a fight. I find the fact that he has beaten characters that have the ability to beat him much more interesting than he can beat them because he's better for some reason. I think it makes Sonic a more refreshing protagonist.
It's a fair list, everyone mentioned has a chance (including Eggman who always manages to keep pace with the Blue Blur) but one of the key points in all of this, besides the long history of fights, battle experiences, status, powers, skills, hax, etc. is that Sonic has a very rapid rate of evolution and adaptation, as confirmed in Forces he gets stronger every second and this happens even if he doesn't fight or train since he was trapped in the Death Egg, which which is a very useful ability, despite being simple, and there have been a few times where Iizuka said he had no limits, but I think that was more of a catchphrase/emphasis, the point is that even if you knock Sonic down, he comes back even more stronger as soon as he gets up (just like he did with Emerl as an example)
I like this, we need to stop treating Sonic as if he was some sort of god who can beat anyone, he needs to be humbled. It would be pretty boring having Sonic being the most capable character and everyone else being always on the sidelines. For example, the Android & Cell saga in DBZ was so great because the Z warriors kept surpassing each other and having their moments and spotlights. However, if we keep treating Sonic as the only one who can fight, the only one who can stop Eggman, the only one who can save the world, the only one who can defeat big monsters... it would be so lame because why would you have such a great roster of characters each one with unique traits and abilities if they're only going to watch? That's why I love the game Shadow the Hedgehog because we see someone else shine, or Knuckles Chaotix because they are the ones who defeat Robotnik.
I feel like Silver is more tougher than we think he is. I mean he was almost able to kill sonic and was able to stop a God like being. So I'm really giving some credit towards Silver. But if I were to think of other characters I would think Chip because he is literally a person who we start a cycle with Earth. And has the Gaia Colossus to destroy Sonic. And another character is maybe Mephiles the Dark because he was able to kill him although behind his back and unaware. And he's fused to another deity that makes some a God like figure combined so I feel like he could have a chance.
Juste to say some of those characters dont stand a chance against sonic exemples: Silver won his first fight because sonic dropped his gard since we can hear sonic saying to a tired silver ( hey! ) like hey you good. Blaze got beaten like nothing in rush since at the end of theire fight sonic is calm and as won the fight eseally and the last one Tails is too slow , he doesn't think as fast then sonic tails as no stamina he can fly just 20 secondes and he's not strong enought to deal any damage to sonic

This makes sense because and not as controversial in opinion. Tails would be a great choice to be against knowing what and how to use his tech skills and fighting abilities. Shadow I could easily see as a contender for beating him. Blaze as well, but she would use the Sol emeralds as last resort if needed to. Knuckles is stronger than Sonic but like you said he can’t think as fast as Sonic. But other than that, this to me is a great video.
C'mon. A lot of characters can beat Sonic. The only reason he wins all the time is because he always has back up from his friends. He doesn't win by himself.
I don't really think any of these characters beside maybe shadow could beat Sonic. It has been shown that Sonic gets a lot stronger as seen in sonic generations when he takes on Perfect chaos while not being in his Super form. But then there's also Sonic's trump card which is Hyper Sonic, it is very vague how strong Hyper is but I think that would give him the victory for most of these fights.
These characters can hypothetically beat Sonic, but Sonic is the main character. When Shadow is the main character of his game he defeats Sonic. If there was a Rouge the Bat videogame, she would probably knock out Sonic during a boss battle. But storywise, Silver can probably defeat Sonic in some circumstances. A cartoon that or movie purely story based would probably have Shadow win a few times if he battled Sonic

Let's be honest. The only reason that Sonic is the only one who is getting stronger in the last games, is that he is actually THE ONLY ONE who was playable all these years. We simply don't see any other character evolution because Sega wasn't using any other character in the games for like 10 years except for insignificant cameo or NPC. In the adventure era we had an evolution of Tails, Knuckles, Shadow etc. Then Sega decided to scrap that and made it all about Sonic. But that doesn't mean he is the only one getting stronger. He just the only one whom Sega gives all attention. And Hyper Sonic isn't canon.
About knux, i do think he is able to beat him, i know they are different universes, but for example in the movies verse Knux always had the upper hand on Sonic, and in sonic X Knuckles made shadow take his innhibitor rings of.

In Generations Shadow and Silver weren't real. Sonic defeated their projections from the past, not the real Shadow and Silver from the present. Present Shadow is much more powerful than he was in SA2. It was all an illusion of the past events created by Time Eater. And let's be honest Silver couldn’t beat Infinite because he and everyone else in Forces were nerfed as hell for Sonic to be the only almighty hero. I feel like many people don't understand just how powerful Silver was in the Archie comics. Silver held his own against Enerjak in his base form while Sonic couldn't do the same in his super form.
The Top 4 characters I can see beating Sonic are: 1. Shadow Because of his limiters on his wrist that give him an extra boost with his chaos abilities, powers and speed. 2. Knuckles Out of every character in the sonic franchise he's the only one who has managed to knock out Supersonic in his base form. Not to mention he is the guardian of the master emerald and he's able to control the output of the chaos energy like he did in adventure 2. Honestly Knuckles should be better at using the chaos emeralds then Sonic since he's the guardian of the one that controls them and has an ancestral history that ties to the emeralds (Adventure 1) 3. Tails As mention in the video Tails knows pretty much everything about sonic being that he's his best friend and has known him since sonic 2 when the first met. He knows all of Sonic's moves, strengths, and weakness. Plus like you said he is really smart too, one of his greatest inventions that impressed me in my opinion was back in Adventure 2 where he created the fake emerald that could replicate the same powers of a real Chaos emerald which is really impressive given the the chaos emeralds have unlimited power as stated by tails back in adventure 1 when he showed a real chaos emerald to Sonic. If Tails could make something like that then he has a very good chance of beating Sonic. (Wonder why Eggman never thought of make 7 fake chaos that could replicate the real ones, since he's seen tails do it speaking of Eggman...) 4. Eggman Like tails is very smart he creates a bunch of doomsday level stuff on the daily. I mean look back at Sonic 3 where this man built a big station the size of the moon known as the (Death Egg) which hosted a bunch of stations to take out sonic. Don't forget he built metal sonic that can mimic all of Sonic's abilities even transformations as we saw in the final boss of knuckles playthrough in Sonic 3 and in Heroes too. He also blew up half the moon back in adventure 2 and he created the robot time eater which could do battle against super sonic in a timeless void (Sonic Generations). Overall Eggman's a worthy opponent considering the things has made on a daily basis which shows what he's truly capable of and why he's so dangerous without Sonic to stop him. Overall this is my conclusion as to which characters that I can see beating Sonic.
A few corrections. For Eggman, he lost to Sonic, once the Hedgehog went super. And planet busting weapons do not work on Sonic. Plus the Time Eater is not something Eggman created on his own. It is a primordial entity with abilities Eggman himself couldn't master. So he robotized it and used it against Sonic. His best hope is that he has gadgets that can harness Chaos energy, the Phantom Ruby, and the Sol Emeralds, all of which compliment Sonic's powers.

I don't understand how people don't think that Infinite can beat Sonic in a fight. Especially since he's done it before....twice. By himself, with his own power. Sonic was never able to defeat him by himself, even after weakening the Phantom Ruby by destroying the Death Egg, the thing that was amping the ruby's strength. Sonic only beat Infinite after nerfing his power and getting backup against him. Infinite is honestly one of, if not, THE STRONGEST character Sonic has ever faced. Put some respect on his name.

I think my controversial pick for who can beat sonic is Omega. Humanity went to him when they needed shadow gone and in the future we see that it happened. So my logic is that shadow and sonic are so evenly matched and omega took out shadow then he can take out sonic. BUT this all happened in sonic 06 that’s the iffy part
This is only controversial because Omega does not have that many fans (I think) but if anybody think about it for two seconds it's obvious Omega can beat Sonic. Omega can beat almost everyone in the cast, at least I can't think of anyone stronger than Omega right now.
I will say, my only real issue with this video is you downplaying just how powerful Infinite is, Sonic got the upper hand on Infinite in their second encounter, but its pretty obvious Infinite wasn't taking it seriously, as the cutscene right after shows him defeating Sonic, then their final encounter makes it pretty clear Sonic only beats Infinite due to the avatar being there. Really due to Infinite's powerset, he should be pretty unstoppable in most situations, since his abilities are limited to just what he can imagine, and we see him make a sun, nothing was really stopping him from doing it again to defeat Sonic beyond the fact Sonic is the main character and has to win. But over all, I completely agree with you on these characters being able to possibly defeat Sonic, if his main character plot armor isn't going into overdrive to protect him.
To tack onto that, if I'm being real, Infinite never really loses to Sonic in a fair fight. The second fight you mentioned actually just ends in Sonic getting no-sold; Infinite is a dipshit, so he never finishes him off. He's clearly written to be the strongest character in the plot, but the story is just really badly done so there's lots of inconsistencies. For one, if all it takes to beat Infinite is Sonic + an athletic mobian, why did a team of Knuckles and Silver not obliterate him? If Shadow's been here this whole time, why couldn't he have used Dark Shadow, Chaos Boost or removed his inhibitor rings to assumedly absolutely beat the snot out of him? How strong even is Infinite? The 'infinite copies' thing poorly translates over into battles, and we're never given a clear sense of what he can do.

I agree with the list. Something about Knuckles, I think it's just plot armor. In S3&K he punched Sonic out of super form with his bare knuckles, and Sonic can't break the walls in that game that he can. Yet somehow in Hidden Palace, Sonic (and even Tails) can defeat Knuckles very easily. And I don't know if the Sonic movie is relevant here, but Knuckles sure could've beaten Sonic in their first fight scene too.
If these are fights without the chaos emeralds then MIGHTY THE ARMADILLO should have been on this list, not only does he have the speed to keep up with sonic but his strength and durability puts not only sonic but most characters on this list to shame.

I think that the fact that Sonic gets stronger every game is downplayed yes all those characters have beat and shown to be on par with Sonic but Sonic in generations is stronger or as strong as his super form in adventure so the Sonic that lost to these people wouldn’t loose now
One thing is that Sonic did burn off that infection by running. Eggman's only option is to upgrade the Egg Salamander or Egg Wizard, and use all the chaos emeralds on them. Or he can combine the Sol Emeralds, Phantom Ruby and the Chaos Emeralds and use all of their powers on Sonic.
Shadow would easily beat Sonic, seriously. I'd say Sonic Prime is a perfect example of how their fights would go down if Sonic didn't have too much plot armor.

I actually don't think any of these should be controversial - I've been throwing the idea of Tails being Sonic's deadliest "what-if" enemy for years. Glad someone shares that sentiment. He's the best of both worlds with Sonic and Eggmans' abilities - and he knows Sonic better than anyone.
I love that Tails 2ww your number 1,he is amart but it's never shown off, he can fight but he's treated as 'just a nerd' and I absolutely hate it because he's not a fun character to me anymore, which is a shame, I used to love his character so much
The most likely character to beat Sonic imo is eggman. He has already done it multiple times. He did it in forces, he did it in sonic adventure 2 and he did it in unleashed. All those times sonic just got lucky.

I actually agree. Let's not forget that Dr. Ivo Robotnik is pretty strong, as seen in Sonic Lost World, IDW Comics, and other instances.
I feel like the video is more so talking about beating Sonic in a fight than outsmarting him, and I'll defend the Chaos Control instance since Sonic is treated as Shadow's equal through the game and Shadow himself hints he might be a "Ultimate Life Form" himself(albeit one made by nature instead of technology)

Both in Sonic & Knuckles and Advance 2 Eggman's final mecha was so powerful Super Sonic couldnt harm it, needing it's own missiles to do the job, and the later and the boss of Sonic 3 were both capable of damaging Super Sonic very badly
And both Gmerl and Metal Overlord who were his creations had Super Sonic on the ropes and if Eggman had sided with them instead of with Sonic they would have won

I was very happy when I saw that another being on this planet also respects the great potential Tails has; he is the second best Engineer in the Sonic universe + he was with Sonic in most of his adventures, so he must have learned some fighting skills or even ideas for his new inventions (like the 7 additional tails he made in Sonic Prime)

You know, to be honest, before Frontiers, I thought Sonic was underrated, because unlike the others, he didn't have many special abilities to be more experienced. All he could do for a long time was slam his head and curl up into a ball, which everyone could do, and his special moves, such as Sonic Wind, no longer appeared outside of the games he used them. Now that the frontier has finally given him a special move, he's really in a league of its own. Although now they need to reappear in the games so that the new combat system gives them a few more new moves, because now Sonic has more of them, and we need to level it out.
Honestly, I think all of these characters have a chance, but some have more of a chance than others, and if it were to come to it, I think Sonic would still win at the end of the day.

Bold move putting Tails in there but not Eggman. lol I can see your reasoning for every character and agree with them all on some level but I was expecting to see Metal Sonic in this list, especially considering his Overlord form.

i pretty much agree with everything on this list, when you think about it, the main reason sonic wins as many fights as he does, is because he's SKILLED. shadow for example, pretty much has a clear advantage over sonic. but sonic has the skill and experience to pretty much close the gap. debatably the same case for silver, blaze and knuckles.
i honestly miss the older eras where you could actually fight sonic himself and even win against him, showing that he can actually be beaten (adventure, heroes, rush, etc)

My opinion on all of these:
Shadow - Definitely. Not only does he match Sonic's speed, but he has a lot more abilities at his disposal that can only aid him, like Chaos Spear or Chaos Blast. Not to mention Sonic's fried if Shadow takes off his rings.
Silver - Yeah, I agree with this one, but that's because Silver's overpowered. Man has the ability to hold anyone in place with no way of escaping his grasp (other than someone interfering), and then throw them around as he pleases, no wonder Sonic got beaten to near death twice until Amy and Shadow interfered. I feel like everyone always overlooks how powerful his abilities are.
Blaze - Ehhh, I'm not fully convinced. Her abilities were on par with Sonic's in Rush sure, and she does have her own set of Emeralds + Super form, but she hasn't been explored all that much to make me think she's on par with Sonic.
Infinite - He's also been proven to beat Sonic, and I believe that with the power of the Phantom Ruby he can, but they just held him back for the plot way too much in Forces. He can definitely do some damage though.
Knuckles - The problem here is that I feel like Knuckles is too much strength over speed. Like, Sonic could definitely outspeed him in a fight to get the easy win. In the case that he CAN catch up with Sonic, maybe he could stand a chance. He's definitely beefy enough.
Tails - I see the vision, but it misses the mark by quite a bit. I believe that Tails' knowledge of Sonic can only get him anywhere if he has prep time before the fight in order to make some Sonic-stopping gear. Otherwise, his skills, abilities and knowledge can't get him to much heights in terms of beating Sonic. He's just a kid after all. But, another bonus point is that if we're being realistic, out of all these candidates Tails is probably the only one that Sonic would be hesitant to fight, which would logically give Tails the upper hand. In the end, I understand the logic, but it needs some heavy specifics for me to buy into it.
The problem with Shadow and Silver is that Sonic has been shown to be stronger than both of them

Honestly, I can agree with all of these. Dont get me wrong. Sonic is FAR from being an underdog, but if you were to compare his power with that of other characters, he would probably be in the top 5. If you compare his wits with others, then he's above average at best. Sonic has a lot of strengths, but he has a lot of weaknesses that other characters can exploit in a fight. I find the fact that he has beaten characters that have the ability to beat him much more interesting than he can beat them because he's better for some reason. I think it makes Sonic a more refreshing protagonist.
It's a fair list, everyone mentioned has a chance (including Eggman who always manages to keep pace with the Blue Blur) but one of the key points in all of this, besides the long history of fights, battle experiences, status, powers, skills, hax, etc. is that Sonic has a very rapid rate of evolution and adaptation, as confirmed in Forces he gets stronger every second and this happens even if he doesn't fight or train since he was trapped in the Death Egg, which which is a very useful ability, despite being simple, and there have been a few times where Iizuka said he had no limits, but I think that was more of a catchphrase/emphasis, the point is that even if you knock Sonic down, he comes back even more stronger as soon as he gets up (just like he did with Emerl as an example)
I like this, we need to stop treating Sonic as if he was some sort of god who can beat anyone, he needs to be humbled.
It would be pretty boring having Sonic being the most capable character and everyone else being always on the sidelines.
For example, the Android & Cell saga in DBZ was so great because the Z warriors kept surpassing each other and having their moments and spotlights.
However, if we keep treating Sonic as the only one who can fight, the only one who can stop Eggman, the only one who can save the world, the only one who can defeat big monsters... it would be so lame because why would you have such a great roster of characters each one with unique traits and abilities if they're only going to watch?
That's why I love the game Shadow the Hedgehog because we see someone else shine, or Knuckles Chaotix because they are the ones who defeat Robotnik.

I feel like Silver is more tougher than we think he is. I mean he was almost able to kill sonic and was able to stop a God like being. So I'm really giving some credit towards Silver. But if I were to think of other characters I would think Chip because he is literally a person who we start a cycle with Earth. And has the Gaia Colossus to destroy Sonic. And another character is maybe Mephiles the Dark because he was able to kill him although behind his back and unaware. And he's fused to another deity that makes some a God like figure combined so I feel like he could have a chance.
Juste to say some of those characters dont stand a chance against sonic exemples: Silver won his first fight because sonic dropped his gard since we can hear sonic saying to a tired silver ( hey! ) like hey you good. I don't really think any of these characters beside maybe shadow could beat Sonic. It has been shown that Sonic gets a lot stronger as seen in sonic generations when he takes on Perfect chaos while not being in his Super form. But then there's also Sonic's trump card which is Hyper Sonic, it is very vague how strong Hyper is but I think that would give him the victory for most of these fights.

Let's be honest. The only reason that Sonic is the only one who is getting stronger in the last games, is that he is actually THE ONLY ONE who was playable all these years. We simply don't see any other character evolution because Sega wasn't using any other character in the games for like 10 years except for insignificant cameo or NPC. In the adventure era we had an evolution of Tails, Knuckles, Shadow etc. Then Sega decided to scrap that and made it all about Sonic. But that doesn't mean he is the only one getting stronger. He just the only one whom Sega gives all attention.

In Generations Shadow and Silver weren't real. Sonic defeated their projections from the past, not the real Shadow and Silver from the present. And let's be honest Silver couldn’t beat Infinite because he and everyone else in Forces were nerfed as hell for Sonic to be the only almighty hero. Silver even wasn't using his telekinesis against Infinite. And Shadow isn't allowed to take off his inhibitors anymore, because if he did Infinite would've been destroyed.

I feel like many people don't understand just how powerful Silver was in the Archie comics. Silver held his own against Enerjak in his base form while Sonic couldn't do the same in his super form.

The Top 4 characters I can see beating Sonic are:
1. Shadow
Because of his limiters on his wrist that give him an extra boost with his chaos abilities, powers and speed.
2. Knuckles
Out of every character in the sonic franchise he's the only one who has managed to knock out Supersonic in his base form.
Not to mention he is the guardian of the master emerald and he's able to control the output of the chaos energy like he did in adventure 2. Honestly
Knuckles should be better at using the chaos emeralds then Sonic since he's the guardian of the one that controls them and has an ancestral history

3. Tails
As mention in the video Tails knows pretty much everything about sonic being that he's his best friend and has known him since sonic 2 when the first

Like tails is very smart he creates a bunch of doomsday level stuff on the daily. I mean look back at Sonic 3 where this man built a big station
the size of the moon known as the (Death Egg) which hosted a bunch of stations to take out sonic. Don't forget he built metal sonic that can mimic all
of Sonic's abilities even transformations as we saw in the final boss of knuckles playthrough in Sonic 3 and in Heroes too. He also blew up half the
moon back in adventure 2 and he created the robot time eater which could do battle against super sonic in a timeless void (Sonic Generations). Overall
Eggman's a worthy opponent considering the things has made on a daily basis which shows what he's truly capable of and why he's so dangerous
without Sonic to stop him.
Overall this is my conclusion as to which characters that I can see beating Sonic.
A few corrections. For Eggman, he lost to Sonic, once the Hedgehog went super. And planet busting weapons do not work on Sonic. Plus the Time Eater is not something Eggman created on his own. It is a primordial entity with abilities Eggman himself couldn't master. So he robotized it and used it against Sonic. His best hope is that he has gadgets that can harness Chaos energy, the Phantom Ruby, and the Sol Emeralds, all of which compliment Sonic's powers.

I don't understand how people don't think that Infinite can beat Sonic in a fight. Especially since he's done it before....twice. By himself, with his own power. Sonic was never able to defeat him by himself, even after weakening the Phantom Ruby by destroying the Death Egg, the thing that was amping the ruby's strength. I think my controversial pick for who can beat sonic is Omega. Humanity went to him when they needed shadow gone and in the future we see that it happened. So my logic is that shadow and sonic are so evenly matched and omega took out shadow then he can take out sonic. BUT this all happened in sonic 06 that’s the iffy part
This is only controversial because Omega does not have that many fans (I think) but if anybody think about it for two seconds it's obvious Omega can beat Sonic. Omega can beat almost everyone in the cast, at least I can't think of anyone stronger than Omega right now.

I will say, my only real issue with this video is you downplaying just how powerful Infinite is, Sonic got the upper hand on Infinite in their second encounter, but its pretty obvious Infinite wasn't taking it seriously, as the cutscene right after shows him defeating Sonic, then their final encounter makes it pretty clear Sonic only beats Infinite due to the avatar being there.
Really due to Infinite's powerset, he should be pretty unstoppable in most situations, since his abilities are limited to just what he can imagine, and we see him make a sun, nothing was really stopping him from doing it again to defeat Sonic beyond the fact Sonic is the main character and has to win.
But over all, I completely agree with you on these characters being able to possibly defeat Sonic, if his main character plot armor isn't going into overdrive to protect him.
Infinite is not strong enough to beat Sonic he needs the phantom ruby to even do something to him so infinite would lose

Shadow, Silver, Knuckles, Omega, Metal Sonic, and Blaze are the best living contenders. Maybe Gemerl too.
To tack onto that, if I'm being real, Infinite never really loses to Sonic in a fair fight. The second fight you mentioned actually just ends in Sonic getting no-sold; Infinite is a dipshit, so he never finishes him off.
He's clearly written to be the strongest character in the plot, but the story is just really badly done so there's lots of inconsistencies.
For one, if all it takes to beat Infinite is Sonic + an athletic mobian, why did a team of Knuckles and Silver not obliterate him?
If Shadow's been here this whole time, why couldn't he have used Dark Shadow, Chaos Boost or removed his inhibitor rings to assumedly absolutely beat the snot out of him?
How strong even is Infinite? The 'infinite copies' thing poorly translates over into battles, and we're never given a clear sense of what he can do.

Silver: *trying to kill sonic, yet a pretty much suprresed sonic still won (didn't sonic break out of his telekinetic grasp by willpower alone?)*
Blaze: *technically already lost to sonic in rush*
Knuckles: *lost to sonic on his debut game, and so on*
Tails: I can see it...I'll agree that if tails were to go evil or something, he'd definitely give sonic trouble because tails knows him the best.
I agree with the list. Something about Knuckles, I think it's just plot armor. In S3&K he punched Sonic out of super form with his bare knuckles, and Sonic can't break the walls in that game that he can. Yet somehow in Hidden Palace, Sonic (and even Tails) can defeat Knuckles very easily. And I don't know if the Sonic movie is relevant here, but Knuckles sure could've beaten Sonic in their first fight scene too.
If these are fights without the chaos emeralds then MIGHTY THE ARMADILLO should have been on this list, not only does he have the speed to keep up with sonic but his strength and durability puts not only sonic but most characters on this list to shame.
Honestly if tails became a villian I think he'd do a better job than eggman he knows the strengths and weakness of every hero and villian he's even strong enough to beat chaos four plus I think he could takeover the world much faster than eggman

One thing is that Sonic did burn off that infection by running. Eggman's only option is to upgrade the Egg Salamander or Egg Wizard, and use all the chaos emeralds on them. Or he can combine the Sol Emeralds, Phantom Ruby and the Chaos Emeralds and use all of their powers on Sonic.

I actually don't think any of these should be controversial - I've been throwing the idea of Tails being Sonic's deadliest "what-if" enemy for years. Glad someone shares that sentiment. He's the best of both worlds with Sonic and Eggmans' abilities - and he knows Sonic better than anyone.
