    I removed material on the small primer rod by chucking it up in a drill and slowly drawing it across a bench grinder (smoother stone the better) until it went into a sized .223 case, then I spun the rod across a dine sharpening stone soaked in mineral oil until smooth. Then I put a radius on the corner. Probably about 10 minutes total time. Makes it much easier to slide the cases on the mandrel.

    If you're using force on the down stroke, you're doing it wrong. If you set up the die properly, then the handle will bottom out every time with about the same amount of force as it takes to deprime. Kinda like setting up a sizing die properly. Doing this also gives a consistent swage without prematurely blowing out primer pockets. The only force should be a short pop on the up stroke to remove the brass.
