I built a buffer a couple of years ago and didn't want to spend the exorbitant amount of money that Stewmac wanted for flanges that are essentially just big washers. I looked around my shop for something to use and settled on using some thick Dewalt abrasive wheels meant for a hand grinder. They are designed to be spun at something like 20k RPM, so at 900 RPM there isn't any chance they'll fly apart. They cost under $5 each and all I had to do was drill out the hole to 1". They work great.
as a 19 year old building his first guitar your channel has been invaluable
Okay, that was great. And do I detect just a teensy bit of pride in the outcome? Totally justifiable. You're really good at the whole process, but I sense that you take special pride in your finishing skills. And so you should! Thanks, as always, for passing on the knowledge and experience! Mirror-like most indeed!
I watched your fret level video on the fanned fret multi scale you are building to help with a new Ibanez 7 string I bought and wanted to set up. The method you used and demonstrated worked great for leveling the frets. Thank you for the video and will look forward to more content.
Edit: finish looks great
That is an absolutely beautifully sculpted body. Sexy shape for a guitar for sure.
is this body style available in a regular non multiscale? Love the shape! What do you call it?
Great work right there!
What did you do with your very first electric guitar builds?Did you sell them ?
I just finished my first build from scratch .It came out good but not perfect.
Yes I sold them.
Saw a $1800 fender today that had a visible line defect in the finish that went from the bottom of the upper horn all the way down the body. I didn't even have to take it down off the wall at the shop. It wasn't a high-end line of fender, but it was still a fender.
Stunning finish. Do you ever hit or worry about hitting the wooden box?
No.
Thanks Chris. I got a couple of great ideas from this video. I'm making some wood rings for my medium wheel right away!
Bravo 👏🏻
Is a breathing mask needed.
I would say yes especially if you’re buffing guitars all day, every day.
That finish is absolutely beautiful. Well done!
