I analyzed all the ways Squid Game: The Challenge *could* have been rigged: A deep dive analysis.

  • So what’s the deal- was Squid Game: The Challenge really rigged or not?
    Was the whole thing all fake and scripted with paid actors? What are the rigging allegations made by former players and how have the producers responded? If they did rig it, how could they have actually done it?
    Many have read the Rolling Stone article back in February 2023 soon after filming Red Light, Green Light- as well as other articles and player interviews - and have concluded that SquidGame: The Challenge must have been rigged by the producers. But was it really?
    In this video, I take a detailed look at all the ways in which the games and challenges could have been rigged or manipulated by stacking the odds to help (or harm) the odds of certain contestants. My analysis highlights some suspicious incidents that may provide evidence of producer manipulation as well as the role (and credibility) of the so-called Independent Adjudicators.
    I also explain the difference between “staged” vs “rigged”, the legalities involved with manipulating a “reality competition show” (e.g. 2001 Survivor lawsuit and the 1950’s Quiz Show scandals), and what Netflix can do next season to tamp down any lingering suspicions about rigging in Season Two.
    After looking at all of these factors, I give my final verdict to answer the burning question: “Was Squid Game: The Challenge rigged or not?”

      Hey everyone, it's TJ #182 who just commented! Finally we can get some insider scoop.
      TJ -- Seems like you're saying that the show was not at all rigged (on the up and up)-- is that correct?
      Question about the Warships team selection process: we see the guard pulling out balls #1 (Bryton's team) and #3 for the first groups to play and holding them up to the camera...but it was impossible to tell if they filmed the guards pulling them in real time, in front of the players, or later (to be edited in). Were the red and blue boxes touched at all (or replaced) from the time you all entered the room? I know you couldn't see inside the boxes, but did it look like the guards pull the balls at random or they might've been pre-positioned?
      Also, I don't know if you watched the whole video, but my final verdict was basically that I thought the games were played mostly clean (not rigged) but I had some doubts mostly based on Bryton's comment that he broke his cookie but was passed anyway. But someone commented that Bryton later retracted/clarified his earlier statement and said that he mis-spoke and wasn't given any preferential treatment (the commented didn't state his source so who knows?). If it was true though, that would change my opinion considerably-- and I'd be more inclined to think that it was played as fairly and cleanly as possible.
      I'm sure other players have read the rigging allegations as well and you've talked to them-- is there a consensus among former players? Did anyone see anything that could suggest any rigging? What's your opinion of the allegations made by the four (anonymous) players in the Rolling Stone article? (unless I see an actual lawsuit filed, I'm inclined to think it was mostly sour grapes bullshit). Thanks!

      There was too much chance for it to be rigged.... every time we thought we had one up they threw us a curveball. We was sleep deprived, eating not to be hungry (if that makes sense) and we was going loopy because of the Confinement of the dorms. It's literally illegal to rig a game show. It was chosen randomly right in front of us who was going for warships and even when the 1 on 1 was chosen we thought it was tug of war until we got on set. With dalgona they had camera over us and a second adjudication waiting for us when we got out the room to make sure we wasn't cheating.

    • @thesaltycobra
      @thesaltycobra  9 месяцев назад +2

      Wow, great insider insights, thanks TJ! The audience had zero insight or visibility into the independent adjudicators (all we knew was that they existed but had no way how fairly or closely they were monitoring everything).
      And I actually pointed out in the video that there were too many games of chance to be “rigged” but that possibly the producers put their thumbs on the scale at certain points to influence an outcome. But again I was mostly suspicious after reading about the Bryton cookie thing… but it sounds like Dalgona was properly monitored. To me, his “admission” (if true) was the most damning piece of evidence and made me question what might’ve been going on behind the scenes (which led me to make this video in the first place).
      If anyone else knows where I can find the supposed Bryton clarification/retraction about actually not breaking his cookie, please reply to this comment and let us know!

      @@tjstukes3837 PS-- you were one of the players that I was rooting for (and I'm sure you had a lot of fans behind you). You played the game honorably, the way I think most people wished they could've played it. There can only be one winner but unlike many other players, you came out of the other side with your dignity intact and a positive reputation that you can be proud of. Props.

    I’ve rewatched Episode 7 & 8, and regardless of video editing, we cannot ignore the actual voiceover summaries from Roland, Trey and Ashley, along with Roland saying “I don’t mean to call shots for anyone, but I think it’s only fair if someone else steps up.” (After Trey jumps twice)
    The acknowledgement of (I think Mikie) saying “it’s one each guys” or Chad asking “so noone’s passing? She’s (Ashley) not going to jump up?”
    Then Elliot stated “she didn’t say a damn word either. that’s on Ashley, that is.” And continues to reiterate the fairness of 50/50 plan, Implying that Ashley is not sticking to the plan.
    It was only until Ashley was at the front of the line that, in her words, she “can no longer hide.”
    If Trey jumped at his own discretion and failed to pressure Ashley to stick with the 50/50 plan, that’s on Trey.
    But the overall frustration comes from Ashley’s initial strategy, thought process, and then the frustration of the aftermath regarding Mai and her decision to call Ashley out.
    I don’t think Ashley understood that the 50/50 plan was in her favor. She says “I’m not sacrificing myself when I already have a low number.” Does she not understand with her plan Trey would not be able to make it across forcing her number to be next in line?!
    Even after all of that why would she expect anyone else to overtake her if she “never agreed to that plan.”
    My doubts come from the misalignment of the actual voiceovers on screen versus the post show interviews of Trey specifically and others on the bridge. Did the producers manufacture Trey and Ashley’s voiceovers of the bridge? It doesn’t make sense.

    • @thesaltycobra
      @thesaltycobra  10 месяцев назад +8

      Excellent breakdown- I’ve seen similar sentiments in the comments on my Ashley video but not all together in detail. Many great and accurate points , such as : how confusing it was that we all saw and heard things on the Glass Bridge (“I don’t mean to call shots for anyone…”. “Shit, you talkin “ and other players voice their frustration at her) … but then the next day, everyone except Mai apparently had selective amnesia and didn’t understand why Mai called Ashley out during the Dice Game.
      To add to the confusion further, players like Trey came out later to defend Ashley when we all saw what went down and what they originally said (as you mentioned, no amount of editing could change those facts). Personally I think it couldve been a coordinated effort by the show’s PR people to do some damage control and to rehabilitate Ashley’s reputation. But she did what she did and said what she said, so I’m baffled by all of the people coming to her defense.
      Also, you accurately pointed out that it wasn’t even a smart, strategic move on her part (you have no idea how many people have commented something like “it’s $4.5m y’all! It’s not a team sport, hell, I would’ve done the same too to win that bag!”). She was number FIVE! The 50-50 plan benefitted the players at the front the most. She had to take her one 50-50 jump anyway (“I can’t hide anymore… I have no choice but to jump”) which she could’ve done right after Trey’s first jump, and everyone else behind would overtake her. Instead of refusing to jump and causing Trey to get eliminated, she risked everyone else getting mad and refusing to overtake her. Luckily for her, she had nice Purna behind her and then everyone else followed suit.
      But it’s $4.5 million yall!!!

      @@thesaltycobra finally someone who understands… I doubted my own perspective and almost felt gaslighted by the cast. And while I gave Ashley the benefit of the doubt because the cast were physically there… there had to be some truth to Mai’s reality. I think Ashley lacked the foresight to understand the strategy and discern what benefited her most. Then even during her post bridge voiceover still failed to see that her initial strategy would have led to her demise.

    Hallie claims they stopped the song early on the round where a bunch of people who crossed the line were eliminated, and most of them just didn't notice. The rule was you had to be stopped when the music stopped, so they probably needed more eliminated so they altered the song time to trick them.

    • @thesaltycobra
      @thesaltycobra  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hmmm , interesting insight - that does explain a lot. I had a feeling it could be explained away by something like this, otherwise we would’ve heard those 20 or so players (who were *supposedly* unfairly eliminated) airing their grievances and complaining. This further supports the case that the games were played cleanly (and the four anonymous players quoted in the Rolling Stone article are full of shit).
      If the other commenter was right in saying that Bryton retracted his “my cookie broke and I got passed anyway” comment , this changes my opinion considerably. Plus in my pinned comment TJ chimed in a said that he felt there was zero rigging.

      @@thesaltycobra The claim from Hallie that @aleut1 is referring to is said during an interview/podcast between Roland and Hallie. Hallie describes a situation where a few guys thought they made it, but technically according to the rules about the music ending, they were rightfully eliminated. The producers probably had this in their back pocket for when they needed to trim down numbers quickly. (Also, they knocked over another player, which was against the rules).

    Interesting point at @33:53 about FCC and Netflix.
    As a parallel, this is also why shows like Howard Stern and O&A in the early 00s became exempt from FCC regulation on the radio. They moved to premium satellite radio stations which freed them from a lot of the stringent regulations. Also, premium channels like HBO and Cinemax had similar protections by being a premium service.

      I’m not sure what your comment means- the number of players involved or the size of the prize should be irrelevant. Fraud is fraud (or breach of contract) … there’s no threshold depending on the dollar amount and number of people. If what you’re saying is true, then would it mean that it’s legal to rig any games as long as there are only a small number of people who are competing for $10,000 instead?

    • @kingduck1807
      @kingduck1807 9 месяцев назад +2

      @thesaltycobra whatvi mean with the legality is the fact that if it was rigged there would be a great chance that one of the hundreds of contestants would try to take them to court over how they ripped away their chance for millions of dollars.

      @thesaltycobra no I think you misunderstand. I'm trying to say that if a game show promises a large sum of money, it it is illegal to rig it for certain contestants. And on the thing I said about the number of people. I'll I'm trying to say is that if it was rigged, someone would have just said by now "they cheated me out of money" and then I would imagine a lawsuit would be filed or something like that. I hope I cleared up any confusion.
