Me too! It honestly makes the process more interesting to watch. I love seeing how trial & error shapes the final project. It’s nice to see some one make amazing art & know they don’t get it right every time. I know it helps me take more risks & now take failures so much to heart.

Pro tip from a fellow weaver: I've never worked with Aspen bark, but many weaving materials benefit from being dried completely first and then soaked until they become flexible again right before weaving. Some materials do fine if you weave them fresh, but many shrink or become brittle. Just figured I would share, since you've taught me so much- for instance, the effectiveness of super glue when dealing with baskets/weaves that will not cooperate, haha :) beautiful stuff, keep it up!

Dude! You totally should! I remember breaking a few as a kid and feeling SUPER bad because they cost a fortune to have re-caned for you, and of course the internet was in its infancy, so there weren’t nearly as many free learning resources! It’s a good thing the pattern is complex but not difficult or confusing. Just time consuming!

well, you made me more aware of how my neighbor do his job for furnitures (rocking chair, chairs, tables, beds, etc). I also see him pass the rattan through homemade holes in a metal sheet (similar to cheese grater) to make sure all of the lengths are same width and doesn't have splinters, also he taps the second rattan to make the gaps smaller and tighter. I believe he also swipe the rattan with candle wax to make the weaving easier and faster. I always see him working on old furnitures that need the rattan/reeds replaced and sometimes with new furnitures for his clients.
    nice vid.

I love how much effort you put into this video, as per usual; how you added in some family history which was super rad to hear about; how you used some of the bark from your family tree & lastly that you are now doing collabs with Drew!!! Every video I watch of yours, I'm even more impressed!
The trees out the front of our old house used to be paper bark trees. As a kid I used to pull off sections of the tree & I'd try to write something on them. It was fun but hard to do with the bark actually being soft & almost material-like.
Anyway, enough of my rambling! Great video!!! Would love to see a video on how to make an intro like yours (especially considering you've talked about changing it in the past, you could make a new one & show us the process!) 🌻

Love the collab idea!!! You and drew should go thrifting together for your next collab. Maybe you could try your hands at a terrazzo tray or terrazzo charcuterie board or even a nightstand topper. Something to think about!

Hey! Just wanted to say that I made my way over here from Drew's channel, and honestly I'm a little baffled. I could have sworn I had found every cool DIY channel on RUclips, and I have no idea how I've never seen yours before. I love what you're doing, I love your attitude toward the process of making, and I can't wait to go back through your back catalog, catch up, and follow along. Also, this version of a collab is really clever, and I love the idea of making a raw material and then creating something from it. Please make a series out of this!
