I've unpacked and tested this camera yesterday, indoors, in poor light conditions. The result was not so good...
Today I've tested it outdoors and you may see the result.
I've taken more videos in different environments. In the first video the camera missed tracking my face very soon either because the luminosity of the sky was too high or because I've turned my face away from the camera for too long or because I wasn't in the immediate proximity of the camera. But probably all these reasons together affected the face tracking function.
For the other videos (taken in more proper light conditions) I've selected the wheel of the unicycle to be tracked. There is no option to adjust the size of the selection. You just tap on a face or object and it will be tracked by the camera when it is possible (the tracking didn't work for the seat of the unicycle).
You will probably notice that the face or object that is tracked usually appear in the center of the video. The algorithm also "loves" to zoom in and "hates" zooming out. This is why you will usually see either my head, but not the wheel of the unicycle or the wheel, but not my upper body. Well, enough said. To summarize, there is only one possible conclusion: AI needs a lot of improvement (and not only for this camera, but probably for any camera on the market)...
I like Canon PowerShot PX because it is so small. And it's nice that it can take pretty good photos or videos by itself under some specific brightness conditions. Its battery is not so great, but you may connect the camera to an external power source (for example, a portable charger) while using it (not many cameras are able to do this). But the Powershot PX isn't really useful in other circumstances. And don't try to do what I did in the last part of video, because this camera is not designed to be used by manually changing its direction (it will keep panning and tilting and zooming as it is programmed to do).
Do you like PIXIE or do you hate it? Leave a comment.
I made this video because nobody else really tested the auto tracking function of this camera or didn't want to share the results with the others. I wish I saw a video like this before buying it...
Did this video help you decide whether to buy this camera or not? Then don't forget to like this video.
Do you like unicycling or other exotic vehicles and sports? Then you may consider subscribing to my channel.
Should I keep this camera or not? I don't know. Probably I will keep it because it both resembles R2-D2 from the Star Wars (also "speaks" like it while spinning its "head") without ceasing to look like a camera and (mostly) for "spying" on registered people and taking "compromising" photos (or videos) of them (or surprising them and myself with its captures). ;)
Did you know that apparently this camera could also be used as a wireless webcam (with auto follow function?) connected to a Windows PC? This might be helpful (I haven't tested it in this way, yet).
