  • 4K on GoPro HERO 8 | Okay!!!!! We're just getting started on our SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge and tackling Mt. Wilson first. We unexpectedly did Mt. Wilson two weeks prior as well. We were planning to just hike to Manzanita Ridge but decided to push ourselves and summit Mt. Wilson. I was not prepared at all - had regular sneakers on, not even hiking shoes. And we ended up hiking in the snow / slush / ice for quite a ways at the top. When we did it again two weeks later (as you'll see in this video) we came all prepared with proper footwear, crampons, hiking poles, extra snacks, and all the other things. And all the snow had melted!!! It was totally crazy - seriously as if it was a different hike altogether. Same exact hike, two weeks apart, two completely different experiences. I hope you enjoy coming along with me and the crew for this journey - it wasn't as difficult with the different conditions but was definitely still a major challenge and such a feat to accomplish. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Thank you for tuning in :)

    Enjoyed your video! Made it all the way up and down this week first time. Will take poles next time and a Camelback for water (took bottles in a backpack). Glad I had my Re-Lyte electrolyte mix. That was a game changer / saver.

    I made it to the "bench" a few weeks ago, and then turned back. Will try again, soon.

      Getting there is a feat in and of itself! Congrats and you’ll get to the summit next time I know it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

      @@EJAdventures Thanks. It was my first time and I was just only planning to get to Orchard Camp. Got there and thought what the heck. Keep going. Let's go to "the bench". It was a tough hike. The inclines are not severe, but just non-stop. I was starting to feel the altitude effect. At the bench the sign said 1.3 miles to the top. Forget that, I'll be back.

      @@trexinvert yeah sounds like you did the right thing by listening to your body! You pushed yourself but not too much and that’s the way to do it. Great training for when you finish the whole thing next time 😊

      @@EJAdventures Went up again, today. Been waiting weeks for temp to drop, but it's consistently been in 100's july/aug. Fk it. Just get comfortable hot/sticky. Brought plenty of water and left bottles at First Water & Orchard Camp on way up. Reached the "bench" (5.5 mi.) in 2hrs and 10 minutes. Took nice long break/stretched and returned in 1 hr and 40 minutes coming down with a little speed walk/jog. Easier 2nd time, despite heat, because mentally I knew exactly where i was and comfortable. Just power walked all the "steep ups". There's actually a few flats and downs on the way up the trail. The longest uphill stretch is maybe 10 minutes at most, and I just hung on. No altitude excuse today.

    I didn’t see Mt Wilson in 2021 Six Pack list... or am I wrong?

    • @EJAdventures
      @EJAdventures  3 года назад

      We made our own list I didn’t realize there was a different list every year. This was the first out of our six training hikes our group came up with and we used six pack of peak articles as a guide

    Hi Erika. Good time with your crew. Haven’t done Mt Wilson yet , did Mt Baldy today but didn’t make it to the top. 8000 ft elevation was my limit. Took off at 830am that’s late. Next week I’ll try again

    • @EJAdventures
      @EJAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Wow that’s still amazing to conquer part of Baldy! We’ll be doing that one sometime soon and I cannot wait. Keep crushing it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    How long is the full day to do this?

    • @EJAdventures
      @EJAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Totally depends on fitness level and how many breaks you take but between 6 - 8 hours would be average I’d say!

    I’ve never used poles but it looks like it’s safer. Do you feel that it gets in the way?

    • @EJAdventures
      @EJAdventures  3 года назад

      It only gets in the way when I’m trying to film at the same time 😂😂😂 lol for the most part they are EXTREMELY helpful. It does get a bit tricky when you need to use your hands to grip rocks / pull yourself up on certain hikes, but they are lightweight so it’s easy to tuck them under your arm in that case!
