Very nicely done! If someone asked me to do a chainsaw carving, I expect the log would end up looking like a chainsaw! Really good likeness of a bear cub, especially on the first try. You've got a very good eye for proportion and detail! Thanks for sharing!

That's how I got started....my first attempt was an eagle....sold it 2 days later for $175....I was hooked. 37 years later and my back is so bad that I can't hold a chainsaw up for more then 5 minutes. It was so enjoyable that after a few years I was able to look at a piece of wood and immediately be able to see what I could make out of it...whether it was an eagle, owl, bear, or whatever...it just became something that people wanted to buy....but the years of handling those logs and chainsaws caught up with me, on top of the different construction jobs that I had......I really miss that part of my life.....so great job, you did absolutely fine for your first time.

Rod for a first attempt it turned out great! But I am not surprised you are a very talented artist and you just exchanged a carving chisel with a chainsaw.
What next? How about a huge carving chiseled from a large stone?
Glad to hear you are on the mend.
    Great work brother!

Great job for your first attempt. I love your work and admire your talent. I have got my fathers lathe rehabbed and ready for a new motor and gotta do smoe work on the stand and have just worked out a deal for some used cheisiels. I hope to have the old girl up and running soon. It is an old Montgomery Wards Powercraft built back in the 1940s, nothing fancy but I will see what I can do with it. I've never turned before.
Been prayimg for your full recovery. God bless.
