- This is a super easy turning project that anyone can do on a lathe.
I use various woodturning tools to make two handles from African Blackwood and Purpleheart wood, and attach nice gold scoops.
It makes for a whole new coffee making experience...you can feel the quality.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I so miss being at sea. Nothing like a cup of coffee as the sun rises on a tranquil ocean, horizon to horizon, all around... the constant humming of the ship, the deep blue and the aquamarine wash in the prop wake. I could go on and on. Good days and bad are all longed for now by this retired Marine. Thoughts stirred up with a cup of go juice.... Thanks brother! Semper Fi

Both handles look gorgeous. The African blackwood shines up like ebony & the grain on the purpleheart has some lovely grain. I enjoyed seeing these come together in real-time.

I adore Purple Heart wood. It is so beautiful. One day I’m going to get a box made of African Blackwood. Love these handles. I like the cork trick. I never drank coffee until I joined the military. Now I don’t know what I’d do without it. I’d never make through one of our weeks long military exercises without it or any of my deployments.
I don't have a coffee problem, unless I run out! Nice job!

Sorry I am only getting to watch this now I have been busy this weekend with a surprise 70th birthday party for my Dad but it's been worth the wait you say it's an easy project but sometimes the straight forward stuff is the hardest to get a good finish on it. But you knocked it outta the park again Rod, fantastic job ps not a fan of coffee lol and only getting onto tea lol

Hi Rod, They look amazing, especially the African Blackwood. I have some of it and was intending to turn into pens but you have changed my mind. The skew is the first chisel I was taught to use when I started turning, I now have three. When used properly, and you do, it gives such a smooth finish it cuts down on the rest of the finishing processes. Cheers, Huw

If you want to avoid drills oscillating when you start pushing em into the workpiece...then get yourself a countersink and just create a bit of a lead in first...
Drill should run dead on then...
If you want a really fine internal finish on a bore...then don't think you can't use a reamer on wood...
You can...
I liked the demonstration of all the different chisels you used and its right and correct that you use whatever tooling will get it done...

You really need to show us how to sharpen chisels. Watch a lot of wood lathe professionals and you sir have thee sharpest chisels in my opinion. Oh and gorgeous work on the handles love watching professionals like you and many others turning out great work. Keep it up.
