With all the cameras you guys have along with Monza' Damon and the rest yall should do the list again with real street cars again live on RUclips
Live on RUclips would be tough. People would figure out the spots and start showing up
That would be awesome!
I agree that would be pretty kul.
Yessir!!
You know it would get the views! Discovery is over it so I doubt they'll offer any resistance.
I'll take a little embarrassing mistake over engine damage any day! 🤨👍
Facts simple enough mistake when I seen the and heard the pop I thought the worst, So happy for him it was something so simple
Me too. A couple years ago I did the head gaskets in my Silverado and when it was all done and buttoned up it still wanted to run hot. I was so mad that I just knew I did everything right, and didn't know what was wrong this time I parked it and didn't even open the hood again for like 4 days. Then when I was cleaning up old parts I found the brand new thermostat that I apparently never installed because I accidentally stuck the old one back in it. And in my bones I just knew that the radiator, water pump, t_stat, hoses, head gaskets...... Everything was new and there's no way this could be happening. 😂🤬
Amen. They don’t cost ten of thousands of dollars. Just a little humility 😂. I love when he shit talks the driver even when it’s him 😂
Makes perfect sense to me. It's like flooring a street car and turning off the key off with the gas pedal to the floor and waiting a sec or two and turning the key back on (BOOM). Use to have a ball doing that in front of a golf coarse when I was a kid and watching the old farts jump. LOL
LoL we use to do that in my friends moms car, till we blew the muffler wide open 😅😅😅
100% made me think of the very same thing, I had a old work truck we use to scare the syht outta people when they weren't paying attention 🤣😂 sounds like bomb💣 going off 💯✌️
Same exact thing I thought of
Lol in australia we call that a KEY Banger 😂 and yes ive blown the exhaust clean off just after the extractors more than once doing it 😂
@@That_Dude420😅 I used to do the same exact thing in an old work truck! Mufflers didn’t even last a week!😅😅
8 little soldiers said it looks good Boss!
I still back and watch that live when I need a good laugh
Makes sense. My lawnmower will do the same thing.
One of the most beautiful cars on the internet
Facts
Tru story.
I agree it looked great coming out of the trailer
Agreed. There’s an original orange one for sale here locally and I wish I could buy it.
I've always loved it I honestly thought it was crowmod only
I can't stress enough how grateful I am that you let us in on so much of what you accomplish & endure. Mad Props. Everyone says "I'm just keeping it real," but you Sir...stand on it. This one was cool enough that I'm not even mad there's no Jackie or Kitty cameos.
The Chevy/Ford guys are envious of how easy it is to change plugs on our Pontiacs 😎
i make sure to do it with one hand and video it every chance i get just to rub it in lol
Only the Ford Guys
Only the Ford guys
Oops
I LOVE HIS PUSH BUTTON TO BAR THE ENGINE
It sounded like when i was drag racing motorcycles, i had a air Shifter on it, push the button to shift, it would kill the Ignition to allow it to go to the next gear and it would shoot a giant flame and a big bang out the exhaust every gear change just like the Crow did at the traps.
That's some good tech talk I think you're right on the money
MY old bb comet has done that. ps i have owned and street raced my comet since i was 19 im 61 now and still race it.had 4 engines in it over theyears
P.S.🥴
I'm glad it's not hurt, thank god you got to take valve covers off. I knew u was still into the throttle when I popped fire outta both sides of headers. Yes drivers can't and shouldn't be trusted period! Thanks for the update.
Yeah that explains it and that's why it popped out both sides because you killed power while still feeding it fuel. I makes sense I was thinking you hit boost cut or something at first anyway glad it's all good and you don't have to replace any pistons or anything.
Totally agree. We used to hit the kill switches for a split second on our crotch rockets with the throttle open to induce the same backfire . People would think someone was firing a gun. Just as sharp a sound. All in the exhaust. Really enjoy the candid and raw J&J. Love it guys!
I know a guy 30+ years ago that had his old Ford trucks distributor wired to an on / off switch..he would be driving and see people out in the road and he would flick the switch off to on and when the points made contact with voltage "BOOM'' just like somebody fired a shotgun..it was crazy !
My 113inch Roadliner bangs like a gun when I decelerate, gets people going to ground when I go thru some neighborhoods....
@@dionrau5580 I did the carbs on big V TWIN Honda some time ago. It was so fat that it was blowing out both ends. It was so rich before I got it that it blew the carbs off, caught fire and melted the choke. No idea who jetted it before me but they clearly had high hopes.
@@rosskrause3926 Pride Parade Patrol. ;)))
@@chrisstratton3430 Clearly 😆💥
Hey all in all id be happy with that. It just goes to show how much drivers rely on their habits while behind the wheel. Changing tire size missed everything up. Lol. Thank god for data! Not only helps with tuning but also helps with the localisation of problems
Impact on the spark plugs! Gotta love them ole Pontiacs!😂
I'd trade my SBC for that ease of access in a heartbeat. Matter of fact, my next engine may just be a Pontiac.
It all makes 100% sense why you wouldn't see it on the log and I 100% agree with you. Damn good detective work
Chief, y'all rock! I think you hit it exactly on the head with what you're saying. Back 25 years or so ago, I was driving down the road, turning off the ignition with my foot to the floor to get it to backfire, and it blowed the catalytic converter in half😂. I'm glad you figured it out, though. Peace
thank you. drove a big 22 foot box truck many years ago ,you are right . i would turn the key off and turn it on again and sure enough scare more people with a pretty good back fire from turning the key off and on while the truck was still going .chief you are a genious . the crow lives on .keep on making great entertainment and great videos
I love all the the info we’re getting on these videos. Like I said on the last video. I love the technical info we get from Chiefs videos. I’m a tech geek. Love it
💯 right on what u think happened the log don't lie pre ignition back fire was still dumping fuel in as your holding it to the floor when u killed the power
I think you hit the nail on the head. I figured it was ignition related. Just not how you described your run. But it makes perfect sense. lit up whatever fuel was left on shutdown in the pipes. This is why your diag skills are second to none.
Thanks for sharing Chief and Jackie
Love watching these types of videos. Feels like a constant behind the scenes, feels a lot more personal. Good on you chief for looking into what happened and being open to put it out there for us to see. Shows were all human and stuff happens. What you said makes a lot of sense going from movement and then just coming to a halt definitely could cause that bang. Seems like more racing and less problems heading your way!
Good investigation Chief. Think you hit the nail on the head.
Fastest car on the planet with quark valve cover gaskets HANDS DOWN!
gotta be lol
I noticed that too!
Cork ???
Lol right 😂
@@kylestephenson3004 quark...cork. Horseshoes and hand grenades? 🤣
Glad your still making videos!
I love that you show so much with us! This is the best racing channel ever! ❤
The old chief is Back!🎉 The humble man is what everyone loved about chief, These last 2 videos are the Humble Chief. Best content in awhile 🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely makes sense of video, data , plugs and upper end being ok."
Kicked out ignition under full fuel load- pow!
yep!
Sweet, thanks, you all didn't make us wait a week or two to find out what is going on with Mr Crow.. now when is Caddy Jack going to get his engine that Jackie bought him?? You know that camaro 383😂
Solid diagnosis and deduction my man. Makes total sense. Stay humble. Stay the course.
I think your theory is 💯 correct. Thanks for the update and giving us all the content lately
WOW😮 you're so detailed 👍
You hit Mach 1 ..almost went back to the future😂😂
Big chief, you are absolutely correct. I dealt with the same problem with mine its naturally aspirated, I was turning off the ignition as soon as I was going through the lights Full throttle and shutting off the ignition.I would hear that pop when I go through the light when I get to the end of the track.
Thanks for everything you share with us
That makes sense since in the video you're still hammering on the throttle and then boom followed by slowing down.. I'm no tuner but it makes sense.. I was hoping you were going to have to call Butler and get Mr Crow one of their big block Pontiac engines
Gawd damn that car is so beautiful.
Makes complete sense to me. Props for shutting it down and checking it over, as well as getting us a video pronto time.
Appreciate the transparency
Hey, good thing you know a good mechanic 😂😂😂
the driver hates the tuner, the tuner hates the driver....but the mechanic hates everyone
I agree with what you said happened
I think you nailed what happened. Thank you two for another great video. Much love and respect to you both ✌️
Hey chief and Jackie i totally agree the pop was because you killed it while still in full throttle which would give out a bang everytime you do that. Also great job on breaking it down so everyone can understand as always keep up the awesome work guys let's go 💪💯
Those dang drivers. Such a headache for the tuner. 😉
lololol
Sounds reasonable
Im digging these technical break downs
Definitely agree with you on what happened, glad nothing got hurt. Love the videos always looking forward to the next one.🤘
Gotta yank that valve cover off immediately lol
The exhaust backfire was likely caused by running cork gaskets! 😂 Just kidding, I think you nailed it on the head with your hypotheses. Looks like the engine is fine. The driver just needs more practice. 😅
Need to speak to ur tuna
Yep sounds right. You went through the plugs and they were fine. Same with rockers. Only thing just to check is the header bolts.
It makes perfect sense and you put to the floor. You shut your coils off. You had no ignition withdrawal fuel in your cylinder. Pastor Raul into your red hot header pipe and went home. That’s why there’s nothing wrong with the motor. Makes perfect sense. Very good job diagnosing that you do. You always have impressed me. I’ve been following you since the first time you showed face on pinks.
Yes, I'm special, another video 🤣😂😅
Thank You Miss.Jackie and Chief
That’s some Shearerlock Holmes shit right there….
all these youtubers and only Steve Morris and Big chief learning me!! thx holmes
Great detective work Big Chief! Sounds like you nailed it, and it makes perfect sense.
Fat footed it he said
Tell your tuner to never call Big Chief full of sh*t ever again. The audacity!!!
Great clip Chief. You're on it brother. Nice job.
Love all this experience you've shared! I think you're right about the pop!
Sounds and looks like a rational explanation. Nothing broke so be happy and rock on. Car looks awesome.
You are absolutely correct Sir. Very well explained. Y'all take care.
I think your right on. Nice investigating.
Right on. Fuel in the exhaust.
What you said makes sense the only other thing I could see making it do that is loosing the main power to everything
I'm all about data and I do agree but could just to make sure nothing is hurt could you run a comp test, cylinder leak down, and use a bore scope just to make sure you haven't damaged anything these are test that I would perform on customer cars just to make sure either no repair is needed or I'm repairing the right thing. Thanks for getting back to us about the data.
Cool beans 👍🏻
I’m glad that nothing is hurt. Rock on sir!
That was a great behind-the-scenes video. Yes, I agree. We are human and have to realize we all make mistakes. glad no real consequences. Go do it again. You guys are a great team. Love your content.
Professor Chief, I always learn something on every video. The best channel on RUclips about drag racing.
Was never broken and is begging to get back out there! Went through the motions without even thinking, it happens on rare occasions.
Makes complete sense Chief.
Hey Cheif excess fuel being pooled from what you explained, problem solved lol. Glad you didn't hurt it that bullet is hauling ass, an looks like more to GO.! Gonna be winin races woweee
Awesome video great content 👍
I agree ignited access fuel in the exhaust
I have a 12 second at best 2nd gen Camaro small block NA and I still struggle sometimes so I can’t imagine. My hats off to you guys!
I had a 408 Pontiac motor in a dirt car. I understand why Chief runs a Pontiac motor they have a crap load of torque. Keep up the great work and stay safe
Could absolutely be as you’re describing, it went faster then you thought as you said muscle memory kicked in. Great progress, keep chipping away at it! Great video as always, always anticipate and enjoy new videos!
Big Chief the Crow is looking better than ever man that's a beautiful car I'm sure you will work it out can't wait to see how things go much love and support from Brisbane Australia
Likely the case, similar to losing crank signal mid pass it will pop fireball through both pipes if they are hot.
I really enjoyed listening to your description of what you believe happened. Based on the information you supplied, I would have to agree. Fuel can really be volatile even when you don’t want it to be.
Your onto it I think same happens with our mini bobcat at work when throttle is open and ignition is shut off goes bang everytime scares shit out of me everytime also love your vids keep em coming
Nailed it brother 👌
Glad it didn’t do to much damage if any at all hopefully. The ol Crow looks great and it looks like it’s running great to! Thanks for sharing these videos Big Chief
I like how chief keeps it Real much love from Philly
I absolutely love all the information you provide on this channel. It has certainly taught me and my son a lot about using different ways to get results and follow the data. I appreciate you big homie
thanks!
Yeah, I feel your idea of what happened is correct too. I wonder if keeping boost aand the ignition cuts, it just dumps thst boost and maybe fuel in cylinders just out the sides.
Thanks for the video so fast
Nailed it! I believe you are exactly right Justin!
Need to take a lick, check the 60 foot time versus back half trap speed and check with the butler.
Dang chief that is one beautiful ride! You’re absolutely correct, kind of like back in the day and we would turn the key off while driving to make the car back fire!
🙋♂️...
I think your theory is correct Sir.
It make scents that whatever unspent fuel injected after the ignition was cut has been ignited by the high heat of the exhaust pipes.
I would think at that high an rpm, from one revolution till the next would be milliseconds and if ign was cut between those revolutions, between two exhaust valve opening events and I envision the first exhaust valve opening event that ignited in the cylinder, that theres still fire or fuel burning as that exhaust charge exits past the valve and enters the pipe so the next exhaust opening event that had ign cut and didnt fire, as soon as that exhaust valve opens its igniting right then and considering valve overlap some of that pressure wave is going back into the intake tract. Maybe not enough for a burst panel or maybe the lobe seperation on a turbo cam helps prevent that somewhat. But seems like with a lot of overlap that could cause some damage.
I swear chief has got to be one of if not the most intelligent street racers ever! I started watching season 1 again recently and lots folks relied on big chief back then for knowledge. Justin you will always be my favorite on or off the show .
love the no BS analysis
I thank you are so right I remember when I was a kid my brother would do that he would switch the ignition off and it would pop like it was going to blow mufflers off
Glad there is no obvious signs of damage or being hurt Chief.
Just subscribed to your channel. 👍
Enjoyed your video brother, thank you 😊
You are making sense. If the throttle cable/linkage are good then your looking at at talk with the right stomper or the tps. Next hit we will know. You got this brother.
Completely agree with your assumption. Just looked like a bunch of fuel dumped into the exhaust. The only thing id maybe worry about is if the pop overspun the turbo's.
damn look at the lift on the cam that rocker looks to push that valve a mile got to love the pontiac looks like it just loaded and popped the non burnt fuel and I think your spot on man
Sounds like you said. There is a micro second when the cylinders still get fuel and the exhaust temps are high enough to ignite which give the backfire. If it were out of one bank I would look closer, but running at that RPM the fire was almost at the same time on each bank. All else fails, bring ol' Fred back to the table! Miss seeing that car. Good luck guys!
