This lecture is about soil mechanics in which we are solving one numerical example on how to find some basic unknown soil parameters. Numerical problem states that If a soil sample has a dry unit weight of 19.5 kN/m3, moisture content of 8% and a specific gravity of solid particles is 2.67. Find
(a) Void ratio & Porosity
(b) Moisture unit weight
(c) Saturated unit weight

can you answer ...why the value of porosity is smaller than void ratio?

Because porosity = Vv/Vt but void ratio = Vv / Vs , Vt greater than Vs
So porosity is smaller than void ratio.
