The compression at the beginning is called vocal fry it's a growl and screaming technique
WOW, I never knew about attacking the sound and doing it cleanly. I can see once you've mastered this technique, your natural vibrato will happen.
TANKS!
THE BEST ADVICE EVER
Wow you identified the problem I've been working on perfectly. Thanks man!
It definitely works. Thanks for uploading.
awesome!!! even just those last 10 seconds confirmed something i was wondering about
Thank you for the great tip, sometimes we find it hard to understand but this is so clear that i got into it without any problem
basically the guy is saying sing from your daigphran not your throat. if you feel your throat contracting then you are not singing properly.
This was EXACTLY what I needed today!!!
Wow I've just has a aha moment :D Thanks !!
thanks that was helpful
I do that when I sing! Thank you so much!
Cool. It's like these guys have videos about every single mistake I diagnose on myself.
Thumbs up for this.
Tommy Karevik does that "sexy groan" technique a lot before and after a line and he's probably one of the most impressive singers I've ever heard. I guess you would call it a vocal fry?
thanks! this is very helpful!
1:24 you totally got me haha! Then you said right!!! Haha. I can't believe your lesson is free

3:48 sounds like a truck is going to run him over

what if you have a low raspy voice im trying this but Idk if im doing it right. lol
Hello there,
I wanna know that does oily and fry food effect bad on vocal cords?
Should I permanently avoid them or justhe before singing?
You should narrate audio tapes of stories you have the perfect voice for it
wow man now I know why my recorded vocals sound like shit when recorded rather than in person I guess I was really focused on getting that rasp cuz I sing metlcore and death metal with those yell sceams but know I understand
Wow dude! You're a real fu$7$ng genius
THis is perfect
cool!
I wish I would have found these sooner. Incredibly simple but very effective awareness of the vocal process. I am amazed at ever tip. Great job.

Nyce and Dangerous
cool! NG..NG..NG..NG...nice one
I always do a glissando up to the pitch i need to sing
Any tips on singing like the vocals on the Nile song by pink Floyd, I want sing like that
whats the scale called at the end. round scale?
singing success i just have a question: would you think Martina McBride sings in neutral larynx? any answer would be highly appreciated i am actually conducting a research thank you more power
I'm surprised by the fact that I don't have the weird "crunch" at the beginning, really at all. I actually find that sound in the beginning pleasurable, call me crazy. One person's trash could be another person's treasure?
Can you recommend a singing coach in Perth, Australia?
what if i cannot hit the note without compress it?
I'm new to this stuff, what is NG?
He's Bomb cx
The whole idea is to have choice! Clean attack is imperative but it doesn't mean you can't to the 'crackly sound sometimes when you choose to. ;-)
0:32 sounds like Shaggy, lol.
3:18 sounds a bit like a teremin xD
and yes, im surprised too, that johnny knoxville now teach clean vocals on youtube :o
but after all, its absolutely perfect described and rly makes sense.
will try this out while driveing ;)

@Thriller94 How did he do that? My snaps never sound as awesome as that.
Can someone help me? What's the scale he uses at 4:35?? Thanks!
I've used a guitar to test my vocal range. So far I've gotten E2-G5, where E2 is deep chest voice and G5 is the highest head voice. I want to improve my range, but before that I should mention.. I haven't found a way to sing without harmonizing with my guitar. It doesn't matter if I'm playing a song, or just working scales, my voice never seems to be able to sing on it's own. Help please?
Oh yeah HE IS : D
i wanna learn death core cleans
It's just like nasal vowels!
Could someone please answer, I do not have natural talent as a singer. Is it possible to become as good as the good rock singers out there? Billie Joe Armstrong for example?
@tgpandgsp He does phone / Skype lessons.
you just have to prepare your space to sing when you r breathing, after the emission of the first sound of every frase.
Nice snap at 1:02
Is the green tea harmful for the throat for a singers ?
@thomasjeeh NG is like saying siNG like him at 02:15 but you dont need to say sing every time :D you just need to get to know how to do it with that nasal sound and just the NNNNNG part on a piano scale :] also you can tweek it for finding your mix , refinning vibrato and stuff :]
cheers from a beginner ;p
Man, you nailed it here. I CANNOT stand people like Brittany Spears who over use that compressed attack. It's okay once, as emphasis, but sparingly. A lot of guys do it (Corey Hart) cause they think its cool or sexy. Makes me wanna scream!
so no vocal fry?
@1329melissa agreed
LOL i can't stop thinking 'bout I-don't know-w-w Rewind i don't know-w-w Rewind i don't know-w-w!! LOL :D
speech level shit works only if the person already speaks with a neutral larynx
Wow, I didn't know Johnny Knoxville could sing! :)
is this "e at the beginning" thing some kind of running gag on here? in each video i watch, somebody points out "that e at the beginning", even though it's a f#... or what am i not getting?
Like the Mission Impossible Tom Cruise xD
They're referring to the letter "e".
@Sonicblur13 *_* you're right
wait..the e on youtube was singing on the first part
Idk in some cases i like the rasp,it adds variety ._.
lol! it's britney! strike one dude~
Sometime the "fry" sound is artsitic :-)
uh.. think might you might be a tad confused there
that's like saying "I can only jump while I'm crawling"
Ignoramus. Vocal fry doesn't potentially strengthen the vocal cords, it closes the folds for an easily-produced sound. Also, you can't overdo vocal fry because the very action of making such a sound only affects the edges of the vocal cords. Visit me at the singingsuccess tv forums.

Kendrick
He looks like zany?
Looool everyones comments are killing me! He is gorgeous. His eyes, speaking voice and everything. Ahh *sighs*
3:14 sounds like a car horn xD
I would also recommend something from SINGSBEE.COM which has a singorama vocal training.
Isnt he the Pianist Of Maddi Jane?
The ne Who play the piano in her covers?
OMFGGF!
