Oooh, I didn't know Vernestra was in The Acolyte. Planned to skip it given the reception but I guess I'll give it a shot now. Didn't know about Galaphile either! That's a wonderful cover art.
Couldn't you make the case that it would be reasonable to continue "The Acolyte" for at least one more season because there is the possibility of higher viewership in the future, even after the show ends? There are lots of fans who wish that "Star Trek: TOS" and "Firefly" had not been canceled as early as they were.
If this show was animated like the Clone Wars and was only spending 1 million per episode, that might work. But when the budget is ridiculously high at 22 million per episode, it’s not remotely near where it needs to be to justify anything else. Ahsoka had significantly higher ratings, and only cost about 11 million an episode, and even those ratings weren’t amazing. Ahsoka fits the argument that maybe another season could make it money. But Acolyte’s budget is way higher and viewership is lower, didn’t even make the Nielsen ratings for its 3rd week.
I'm extremely excited for the Acolyte Books. I was one of the people that said the show was going to get tie-in media but everyone said it wouldn't happen due to the show's poor performance and the fact that other shows haven't had tie-in media (which is untrue btw). I'm looking forward to it. But I'm curious Jonathan, what would be your rating for the Acolyte TV show out of 10?
Well, the High Republic series was scheduled to come to an end in 2025 anyway, as the whole Marchion Ro/Nihil story is ending. This just seems to be tie-ins for the show that happens to be in the High Republic era. Not books from that ongoing series. I still expect that once the Hjgh Republic is over, they will start a new big series, maybe in the Old Republic?
@@jonathankoan thanks for making it clear! In my country, the HR books are getting published a year after the US release, so I wasn't aware the series was about to end in 2025.
I have not seen the Acolyte nor do I have an opinion on it. However, I would much prefer the novels focusing on Luke within the Disney canon. I like how THR was developed as a book only series (up until now) and wished they continue like this for the future. Also, I have been reading through the Sun Eater books and they have been great so far.
While The Acolyte was kind of disappointed, i'm so excited for the books. Especially considering they are written by Justina and Tessa, both book will be amazing.
@@Gunnumn well, hopefully these novels will work out. Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton have each had hits and misses, so hopefully these books are good ones.
@@jonathankoan and thats the thing novels tend to do. when it comes to poor writing, i feel like a good tie in novel tends to smooth some of the rough edges that a show/movie did. off subject from star wars, read the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Novelization written by Tarantino himself. he gets INCREDIBLY meta on a level that makes the film look boring. keep up the book reviews.
I love Book News!! That is so weird not to have the cover art for SNW, can't wait to find the mystery of Asylum.. LOVE STAR TREK LIT🖖🏼

…You may still want to skip it…😳
But the books will hopefully be entertaining.
Im very excited for the Acolyte book 😱
Book news 🎉
That cover art mystery is baffling! wtf 😅 Is there a spoiler involved? But if so, wouldn’t we get spoiled before reading regardless lol
@@unlikelyally5325 it makes no sense!!!
Only excited for the Icarus books
Why am I always slightly late

Uh…It’s not very high for me. I’d give it like a 2 or 3 out of 10. My lowest Star Wars show/movie.
But I’m hoping the books will be good!
Ah, man... I like the High Republic novels so much. Why do they have to turn them into Acolyte tie-ins going forward? 😢

Whatever you do, stay away from the acolyte. You want to talk about bad writing? Be my guest.
