4 Wheel Gaming: It was true. It's not like this was a dumb statement. You apparently have no sense of perspective. There were games played before this game. Nebraska was a much better running team than Colorado. It was just in this game that Colorado's running game exploded.
I was in Vegas that weekend. My nephew from Albuquerque was in a YAFL game. I put $100 bucks down on CU. I can't remember which casino. When I went to collect, I told them to call me the next time they want to miss a major college football game by five touchdowns.
At one point Nebraska was down 28-3. If Only the Patriots-Falcons Super Bowl had been played by then, Nebraska would have come back and won, but they didn't know it was possible to come back from 28-3. Tragic. We could have seen Nebraska play Miami for the NC. I'm sure that would have been a great game, but I guess we'll never know...
Ben Kelly was my favorite player to watch as a CU fan. Even though he's not on this team. But Jayshon Sykes was a stud as well. They used to have so much talent. Watch 1995 game at Oklahoma and CU dominates with talent. Damn Donald Strickland hit 1:41:48. Talk about game changer.
Oh, this game rears its ugly head once again for us Husker fans. I still find it mind-boggling that Nebraska, even after being down 35-3 had a much-better chance to win this game than people realize. A lot of people talk about the Diedrick fumble at the goal line (and they should), but Colorado's ability to answer Nebraska with that last, second quarter TD after the Huskers cut it to 35-16 was massive (even though Nebraska answered to go into halftime 42-23). From a mental standpoint, it would've been better for Nebraska for the score to be 35-16 than 42-23. The other item which opened up the floodgates was the personal foul after Nebraska did cut the lead to 42-30. This forced Nebraska to kick the ball from the 20-yard line. Even the most-ardent Buffalo fans were like "oh crap, not again," but Barnett and his players used this Husker mistake and turned into a 20-0 deluge to put the nail in the coffin. It's amazing that Colorado scored 55 of its 62 points while only scoring seven points from 12:21 remaining in the second quarter until 12:50 remaining in the fourth quarter, almost an entire half (29:31) of elapsed time with only a single TD while Nebraska piled on 27 points of their own. As far as how 9/11 and the BCS ranking system affected Colorado (and college football), there is an excellent video on RUclips on the topic well worth your time.
Yes a very strange year, and a very strange game. I have said this is the most competitive blow out I have ever seen. A 32 point lead gets cut to 12 and Nebraska had the ball with a chance to cut it to 5 but the buffs took over and made it 32 again before Nebraska got a garbage time touchdown. As a buffs fan this is one of my fondest memories. As well as our win this past year as I was there to see it in person. Respect to Nebraska. But very few things to me are as satisfying as beating Big red
+Jaylon: Colorado defeated #3 Texas 39-37 8 days after this game in the Big 12 Championship Game. That's how Texas was knocked out of the National Championship picture. And Texas had beaten Colorado 41-7 earlier (October 20) that season. I just wanted to add this in addition to what KoachKrab127 said.
I live in Oklahoma, and I remember going to Wal-Mart laughing my ass off about the bedlam game and seeing people crying. Literally, like a family member had died.
Colorado has won only 10 of the last 50 games against Nebraska. That's nothing to brag about. Nebraska was pretty good that year up until the end of the year. Neither Colorado or Nebraska or Oregon would've beat Miami. Did CU beat Oregon in their Bowl game?
Colorado ripped the mask off the farce that was knebraska football. In the next 5 years Colorado proceeded to en knu's 9-wins-per-season streak and ended knu's bowl streak. Knu is an afterthought in the Big 10 and will continue to be so in the foreseeable future.@@joescopo8933

Sadly will never see that again. Nebraska has nobody like that to play in the Big Ten. Iowa and Wisconsin??? Give me a break🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
Shay Hicks If we're talking about the Osborne-era Huskers, yes. They were MUCH more dynamic with the running game. The Solich era Huskers were a cheap imitation of Osborne's offense. Honestly, Neb had a lot of luck against Colo from about 96 on. From 96 to 2000, Colo had a chance to win each of those ballgames. They were due and like dumbass Danielson said (one of the few times I agree with him on anything), this was Neb's first real test away from home. And we failed in a miserable way Miss the Big Eight, not the Texas-run Big 12 (and yes they do run that conference, those who stayed will figure that out in due time).
VancouverChokers Well if we are being honest, 99 and 00 Colorado SHOULD have won those games, and we let it slip through our fingers poor special teams (Aldridge missed field goal to win it, then the stupid squib kick that gave Nebraska the ball at the 50). So this was an exorcism of demons for our team. And my comment was made in reference to that game and that year. I thought it was very ironic that he said Nebraska runs the ball a lot better and CU rushed all over the huskers that day. I know a lot of Nebraska fans deny that Colorado was a true rival, but you can not deny that in the last days of the Big 8 and the early days of the Big XII Colorado and Nebraska had some amazing games.
This was Solich's 50th game as head coach. He officially came the worst coach in NCAA history with an 0.840 winning percentage (42-8). Amazingly, there was a second chance to win the BCS Championship, and Solich became the worst coach in NCAA history with a 42-9 record losing to Miami 37-14 - and the program hasn't come to close to playing for a National Championship since.
One cannot help but think how the game would have turned if Dahrran Diedrick hadn't fumbled that ball at the goal line with 8:34 left in the 3rd quarter, which would have made the game 42-30, which it would get to several minutes later on their next possession. You've got to give Colorado credit for withstanding a 27-7 Husker fun and ending the game on a 20-6 run of their own.
gynandroidhead really, what about Callahan? Sorry but Solich should of not of been fired. Or Pelini as well. You do not fire coaches who get you 9 or more wins a year.
@@sorney98 Frank Solich was fired because he went 16-12 in his last 28 games once Osborne's recruits had all graduated. The 9-3 season he had in 2003 still sucked because the losses to the better teams were horrific at that point in time, especially the 38-9 loss in Lincoln to K-State. How he was fired, who replaced him, and the nightmare of Steve Pederson were a debacle. For what it is worth, at the time - I thought Solich deserved another year, but I wasn't shedding a tear when he was shown the door, and neither were too many other people.
gynandroidhead all I gotta say is look at the years since we fired Solich. 4 losing seasons, 2 which we witness horrible losses. Some to teams we never visioned losing to. You saw it, no one wanted the job after we fired Solich. We suffered horribly while Solich made a program of Ohio better. Who’s laughing now? We have Frost but still have a long way to go.
18:52 holy shit Yeah it was called back (probably shouldn't have been) but LOOK AT THAT FUCKING HOLE! It's not even a "hole" it's a passage. WTF was the Nebraska defensive staff watching. Colorado ran the same counter play all game.
Someone explain to me how Nebraska managed to play Miami in the NC title game. I know Tennessee & Texas choked in their conference title game. However, if you get ramrodded, punked, stomped, beatdown like THAT your ranking should've dropped out of the Top 10. Oregon should've gotten a chance.
+Jenny Walker It was the craziest two weeks ever in College Football in 2001. Nebraska beating Oklahoma. then Colorado destroying Nebraska. then Tennessee taking down Florida in the swamp. Colorado then beats Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. Followed by LSU upsetting Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. it's like nobody wanted to play Miami. but if anybody should have got the chance to play Miami it should have been Oregon.
@@chaseyoung9628 between 1996 and 2000 Cu lost all 5 games to Nebraska by a combined 15 points. The 1999 and 2000 were the most painful. 1999 stormed back from a 27-3 fourth quarter deficit and tied it at 27. They even were in great position for the game winning field goal, but it went wide right and Nebraska won in overtime. In 2000 colorado scored what seamed to be the game tying touchdown with about 40 seconds left, but decided to go for 2 and the win and got it. Up 32-31 colorado squib kicked the ball on the kickoff and Nebraska got the ball around midfield. It took like 2 plays and the Huskers were in field goal range and kicked the game winner as time expired to win.
I see a lot of people acting like this game destroyed Nebraska. You don't seriously think Nebraska would have been winning NC's left and right with Solich or Callahan if only the players could just get over that darn Colorado game right? Considering Nebraska got back to beating Colorado every year starting in 2005 with a dominating blowout on this same field leading to the typical low IQ students to throw trash on the field this idea makes no sense. But this game destroyed them for the season. Nebraska hasn't recovered yet from the terrible leadership of their administration, most notably the firing of Solich and later Pelini, then hiring terrible coaches. Colorado hasn't done so hot since this season either. They never won another conference championship, and have mostly had lousy teams.

@dadestarmysteries255 *"Colorado didn't exactly tear it up after this season either."*
LOL. 2 games later, OR tore CO a new one proving this game was not about CO, but Neb at the beginning of the big dive to irrelevance.
Purify and Brown great tandem back in the day
Also Johnson and Marcus Houston. Best running back core in the country. Still mad at Bienemy for ruining Marcus Houston.
I watched this 20 years ago. At the time, I played at Wayne St. But I was rooting for the buffs.
My gf at the time was a HUGE Nebraska fan. We were living in Boulder and she was Sooo pissed off watching this game...
Nebraska never should have gotten rid of Solich Never a serious contender since
Purify is one of my all time favorite backs, would have had 300 yds if not for bs holding calls
10 years of frustration takin out
I remember watching the game live on the west stands!
Can't believe how long ago it was.
Last week, some 21 years later, South Carolina put a similar beatdown on the #1 Tennessee Volunteers to end the Vols' National Championship aspirations. 63-38.
It has the same spirit that visited
Well Georgia beat that ass first
2023: I gave up football. Was planning to before 2024, but Heupel's 2, 4th and 1's against AL helped me to move up my schedule. Decades of watching and don't remember being that angry. Here TN goes again.

Remember this game like it was yesterday. Big Buff fan growing up in Husker country. Needless to say I drove to the nearest bar and rubbed it in some hurting Husker fans faces!!!lol
Man! Pesavento was nailing his throws!
"they both like to run the ball, Nebraska does it a lot better" LMAO okay...
ABC isn't known for accurately predicting anything. like elections 2016 or truth anytime.
well they did ? What's the problem?
4 Wheel Gaming: It was true. It's not like this was a dumb statement. You apparently have no sense of perspective. There were games played before this game. Nebraska was a much better running team than Colorado. It was just in this game that Colorado's running game exploded.
i mean that was true for sure. Based on literally every game leading up to this. This was a shocker no doubt
@Ghost Striker Cade more like Nebraska's D exploded. I was at this game and you guys have never been the same. Big Red was never bad again.
I was in Vegas that weekend. My nephew from Albuquerque was in a YAFL game. I put $100 bucks down on CU. I can't remember which casino. When I went to collect, I told them to call me the next time they want to miss a major college football game by five touchdowns.
You are a true hero.
Was wondering when you were gonna put the whole game up SD! Sweet!!
From start to finish Colorado o-line dominated
Just a new Buffs fan catching up on the history
Its almost like Brent Musburger knew that Colorado was going to win. Listen as to how he's calling this game.
He also warned several times that Oklahoma had to take care of business against Oklahoma St. to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game.
#1 Nebraska loses. Then OU loses. Then Florida loses. Then, the next week, Texas loses. Tennessee loses. It's like nobody wanted to play Miami.
They didn't, Although I thought florida, and oregon could be competitive for a while@jkjls007
Kelsey trying to cover Daniel Graham TE. LMAO.😅
Big 12 was stacked this year!!!
I'm not sure I've ever been as stunned by ANYTHING in my entire life..... As I was during the first two quarters of this game.
Best Uniforms Ever!
Thank you soooo much!!!!
As a Cornhusker, CU did far more than win a football game this day. They stole our souls and we haven’t been able to get them back.
Back when college football was fun and unbiased
I absolutely can't believe this was 2001. Seemed like 2009 or 2010.
I was also pretty worried at 42-23 with Nebraska near the goal line.
4 Running backs...will demoralize a defense...#DOPENESS
Boulder was the first half.
The downtown athletic club was the halftime show.
Pasadena was the second half.
OK if Nebraska lost this game how in the world did they get into the NCG against Miami in the Rose Bowl?
+KoachKrab127 OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oklahoma also lost to Oklahoma St. which cost them a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.
True. That game was played the day after this one.
I live in Oklahoma, and I remember going to Wal-Mart laughing my ass off about the bedlam game and seeing people crying. Literally, like a family member had died.
I loved every minute of this game. I knew Nebraska was a fraud and the NC game put a nail in it.
The Back of the Classroom 😂
@joescopo8933 6-6 in last 20 yrs.
Watching football forever. Kept waiting for the inevitable Nebraska comeback and destruction of CU!!! To the point of turning the TV off cuz I didn't want to see them blow it! Boy I'm glad I watched the whole game!
This was the start of the downfall of nebraska, they went to the NC and got beat by Miami after this and have sucked since then...which is good because no team deserves to lose more then nebraska.
Sour grapes much?
It's because of Nebraska fans like you.
Eric Honecker shit if any deserves losses it's Colorado, you don't know how to celebrate a win let alone take loss. And I have the insurance paper work from my car getting damaged in 2005 game. Talk about sore losers
Jesus Christ, Nebraska fans are such crybabies. At least you guys have a football history.

I've almost forgotten what top-flight talent looks like in a Colorado uniform
It’s sad how far Colorado has fallen as well as Nebraska. Idk why because it the College is in a beautiful location but the Administration has basically ignored it stopped caring about Athletics at CU🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
Still amazing Nebraska made it to the national championship after this. Good ole BCS.

Hey! Despite this decisive as all hell game, AND the fact that Oregon then beat the Buffs.... you know how should play for the BCS championship? How about Nebraska?! What a great system the BCS was.
GrassValleyGreg: Oregon beat Colorado in a bowl game after the BCS had decided so that has nothing to do with the BCS decision, but yeah, not a great idea.
@@dadestarmysteries255 True, my point was there were at minimum two teams that deserved it more than Nebraska

moved into Nebraska on this day, end of the NU dynasty, and probably the last time CU was competitive.... NU claims it wasn't a rivalry. i disagree. colorado versus Nebraska far better than the Iowa game.
I was literally jus born when this game was being played lol but Colorado fan for life there team was stacked in the 90s and 2000-2001 but after they fell off but this season we have a good amount 4stars and some kids coming back

@@m4xchillax959 The 1994, 1995 and 1996
Colorado teams were the best teams that Colorado ever had talent wise but Nebraska had their best teams ever in the same years. Sadly will never see that again. Nebraska has nobody like that to play in the Big Ten. Iowa and Wisconsin??? Give me a break🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
The saddest day in college football history. The day Nebraska football died.😢 Rest in Peace Nebraska. Sad 😞 😔
I miss the old XII. 😩
So do both of these teams lol
Also like Terry Bowden at the beginning saying Nebraska runs the ball a lot better. Haha thats hilarious.
And we failed in a miserable way
Miss the Big Eight, not the Texas-run Big 12 (and yes they do run that conference, those who stayed will figure that out in due time).
Shay Hicks From about 89 to 96, those games meant something every year.
+Shay Hicks how long ago was this? lol. nebraska has like 20 games they did this or worst to scum. Hey a broken clock is right twice a day.lol
ralfigs I love the Huskers but I don't think we have any room to be talking, K? We have enough problems to deal with.
Can we get the 2007 game??
Fun fact: CU is 7-6 in this rivalry since 2000, and 3-0 since 2010.
Chris Brown had an awesome game, then was never heard from again.
I'm a Nebraska fan and a Colorado fan if that makes any sense...those damn all black buffs uniforms best in college football can't wait till 2018 game
Actually, he had another awesome game against Texas, had a great 2002 season, then had a successful pro career.
He finished 3rd in Heisman voting the following season...
Actually, He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans and was the back up for Eddie George, But he had
a rather lackluster NFL Career.
If he didn't sit against NU the next season he wins the heisman.
@sorney98 You are so slow. Look what happened to GA after they fired their perennial 9 meaningless win coach.
18:52 holy shit
Yeah it was called back (probably shouldn't have been) but LOOK AT THAT FUCKING HOLE! It's not even a "hole" it's a passage. WTF was the Nebraska defensive staff watching. Colorado ran the same counter play all game.

The death knell of the Nebraska dynasty. I hate the Buffalos forever. Never saw so many straight runs up the middle break open for huge gains.
Colorado fan here I wish our programs were competitive this year man even tho we beat y’all this cu came back in crazy fashion that was a great game
+Edward Richardson $$$$$$
+Jenny Walker It was the craziest two weeks ever in College Football in 2001. Nebraska beating Oklahoma. then Colorado destroying Nebraska. then Tennessee taking down Florida in the swamp. Colorado then beats Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. Followed by LSU upsetting Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. it's like nobody wanted to play Miami. but if anybody should have got the chance to play Miami it should have been Oregon.
+Allen Greene And the biggest, horrible Ok State and Les Miles beating OU in Norman
Frank Champion Yeah that was the craziest. Because Oklahoma still had a shot despite the loss to Nebraska.

Bring back the Big 8 Conference and the Southwest Conference.
CU was robbed the previous 4 years and took out their frustation in this game.
I’m Colorado fan and was born during this game so I don’t know what happened the previous year what happened??
It should’ve been Oregon going to national championship game they would lose to a great Miami team that day I believe the only team that could beat 02 Miami would be 04 USC because the hurricanes couldn’t beat that speed USC possesses with Bush and White
Jamal Greasy yea Ohio st won that game on a phantom passing interference call but yea let’s call that a victory
Jamal Greasy no Frank Gore no Andre Johnson no Jeremy Shockey no Jonathan Vilma no Mike Rumph a lot of true NFL talent gone from no mount mackenee I know I spelled that wrong and it still took a phantom PI to win that game the 01-02 canes vs the 04-05 USC Trojans would’ve been a great football game
Jamal Greasy no they weren’t Andre Johnson was on the Texans and Gore was on the 49ers at that time Shockey was a giant and they were missed in the title game
Jamal Greasy my bad they both were i was thinking Portis not Gore and Andre Johnson was on the Texans in 03 so that’s my bad.
Miami had way too much speed and depth on defense for SC.

@@90sgrungefan51 Thanks for replying. That's an incredibly valid point, because that Husker drive started the 3rd quarter and they marched right down the field until Husker RB Daharan Diedrick fumbled the ball to keep the score 42-23.
@@GuyOnABuffalo82 Thanks for the reply. As a Husker fan, I thought we had a good shot at that point, as it took the edge off the goal line fumble. Even at 49-30, I still thought it was possible. At 55-30, I was like "we're toast." I didn't realize we'd be toast for almost two decades.
