I spun around just in time to grab the hand of a young pregnant woman with her hand in my backpack. They both started yelling and all the passengers just sat there as if it was a daily occurrence.
Well it is actually. They may not have any violent crime in Europe. But that doesn't mean they don't have any non-violent petty crime. They have a ton of it there.

If you have anything valuable leave it at your house at your home state. Carry nothing valuable. Used gift cards. No jewelry. Don't stand out like a sore thumb. Keep your eyes open in your ears open. It's better to be safe than sorry.

We rode an overcrowded subway in Paris in 2019 and we were standing surrounded by young women perhaps Eastern European type.I was only a few inches from my wife and every time the train make a rough stop in a station she felt this woman rubbing against her but my wife thought it’s just because of the overcrowded moment.When we got off she noticed her necklace was missing and told me she didn’t felt anything weird.We were so glad that the necklace was fake!No hard feelings lost.
