    If you cut your pieces on the bias, it’s better to hang the skirt for a day before hemming. So that the fabric can stretch at its max.

    Can you do a black satin maxi skirt? I did one with an elastic waist. It pairs well with a t shirt and with sweaters. Very versatile and acts as a blanket too when lounging. Looks good with ankle boots, flip flops and ballerina flats.

    Lovely skirt - that colour is beautiful! I've been sewing my elastic waistbands with a zig-zag stitch for ages.. Your way looks so much cleaner. I'll be trying that next time :) xx

    • @gemmaamclean
      @gemmaamclean 3 года назад

      @@liliyaivanovayanakieva1472 Yes I did.. it turned out well, I liked the thicker waistband and that there was no stitches on the outside of the skirt. I think both work well though, if you're used to doing zigzag x

      @@gemmaamclean that's great. ☺️ Yeah, will do next time since I need that extra space elastic waistband can assure. Maybe I used a too small in size regular stitch and this way it didn't really elongate. 😂 Have a nice day!

    Tried to do it just today. Overall it turned OK-ish. However, I didn't see any information about the needle needed to work such a fabric (silk/satin). I used a 75 but still had some issues. Also, there is not information about the tension of the thread. I guess that about 4 or 5 should be ok to use. Since the fabric is slippery, I encourage you to use some paper to give the machine the possibility to work without having any problems. When you have finished your seams you just have to tear that paper to clean the seams. Probably the best foot to use is a walking one (unfortunately I still don't have one). French seams are the best for satin and silk, that's for sure.

      i think she pulls the elastic while she makes the straigt stitch so its still movable? cant quite tell

      Luiza Grabovska I pull the elastic while I’m stitching. You definitely can use a zigzag as well. But I don’t really like the look of zigzag on the elastic, that is my personal preference 🌸

      the bigger your hip, or the total length of the skirt, is the bigger it needs to be. Although the fabrics come with a total of length in their width. You can always do some cuts to it make a fringe at the bottom and get more length that way.
