Prospect Cottage needs you now. Film critic Mark Kermode introduces the crowdfunding campaign to save Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage, and the vision for its future.
Help us raise £3.5 million to #SaveProspectCottage, and secure its future as a centre of creative activity - for everyone. Without this appeal, the cottage is at risk of being sold privately, its contents dispersed, and artistic legacy lost.
As a thank you for your donation, you can choose from a range of rewards created by leading artists and supporters of the campaign, including Jeremy Deller, Tacita Dean, Isaac Julien, Michael Craig-Martin and Wolfgang Tillmans.
Join the campaign to protect Derek Jarman's legacy, and inspire creativity in generations to come. Visit artfund.org/pr... to donate.

Glad to see they made their goal of £3.5M. Look forward to visiting the Cottage once it's open.

I wonder if only UK residents are allowed to donate? because your web site is apparently blocking Russian IPs for "security reasons"

Why did the video fail to mention exactly what you're trying to save the cottage from? Is it under threat of demolition, is it rotting, is it up for private sale? How did this video get ticked off without the most basic info being presented?

Hey, they need 3.5 million pounds so it must be serious, right? LOL

essentially, Jarman's partner (Keith Collins) was left the cottage after Jarman's death. He maintained it for the last 25 or so years. Collins recently passed away and the house has subsequently been put on the market. Hence why the money is needed in order to save the property

I don’t get why it’s £3.5 million? Derek only paid £60k for it. It’s sounds like a massive grift to me. Who exactly is asking for this some of money? If an artist wants to stay there, why can’t they pay a nominal fee in order to do so. I live about a 5 minute walk from Derek’s family house in Northwood, if Prospect Cottage is worth £3.5 million then that house is worth £100 million.

      @@ZeldaFitz Grift? I don't think Kermode is a grifter - if he says it's £3.5 million, it's £3.5 million

@@willedwards4588 What's annoying about this is TATE and Creative Folkestone, along with English Heritage could easily put in place a business plan to raise the money from a bank. There is a guaranteed income from the site, in perpetuity.
A conservative estimate could see 100,000 visitors a year.
With free entry, you'd guarantee that: revenue coming from the cafe and gift shop.
Once you own the house, the licensing opportunities are endless: lets start with the FARROW & BALL 'PROSPECT' PAINTRANGE.
It seems to me much of that money is require for the advisors, managers, charity CEO, project planners and other assorted middle men.
For a similar debacle I site the LONDON GARDEN BRIDGE.
Fortunately it was only London taxpayers who funded that, (ttto 48 MILLLION) and not the good willed and artistic philanthropists being guilted in to donating to this.
