Why doesn't Tilda simply buy and fund the cottage? She was after all with Derek when they first laid eyes upon the cottage, plus she was his dear friend and acted in his films. She has a personal association with the cottage and with the great man himself. Surely she can afford it.

I don’t get why it costs £3.5 million to buy Prospect Cottage. Who exactly are they buying it from at that price?. Considering the size of the cottage the price it works out at per square foot, it must be the most expensive property on the planet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the future use of Prospect Cottage as outlined by Tilda, but I can’t help but think there is some grift going on here. I’m happy to be corrected.

Zelda Fitzgerald it was owned by an infulential filmmaker! its a place of cultural and artistic significance. dungeness is also a very sought out and trendy place currently to own a house (other cottages featured on programs such as grand designs) at face value it does seem expensive but when you look at the background it seems quite clear

Henry Lambert I get your point about it being Derek’s artistic home, however, it’s an old fisherman’s hut not a grand design.

@@ZeldaFitz I believe the cost not only deals with the acquirement of the cottage, but also facilitates turning the cottage into a foundation, and a place we can visit. This requires certain logistics and members of staff, all of which costs money etc.

I just saw a vid here on youtube in it Tilda explained the why to raising that sum of money. It has more to do with creating a residency program for artists of all kinds including gardeners who would have access to the house to create, work on , clear writers block etc etc etc. she is thinking big picture not just today but 10 years from now. So the buy is not 3.5, its the whole program to get it up and running forever.
