The original Muay Thai big version as you called them "Moon Boots" I bought them by accident got them too big for me but they make sense now! This is a BIG secret to making sure those strap shin guards don't move around. 1.Place your foot inside the foot strap inside first, then strap the Shin nicely and make sure is aligned with your shin nicely having a good feel against your shin. Now strap around the ankle nicely it should feel easy to strap if it doesn't feel easy something is wrong in the shin alignment strap, if you do this they won't move around as much. Anything sock style will absorb all sweat, my gym requires us that we wear knee and elbow pads for Muay Thai if we want to knee and elbow to protect others from mayor injuries and that gear is mostly made sock style.
Man I hate nothing more than the “sock like” material or the neoprene shinguards. I’m a very hygienic and clean person, and I take very good care of my gear but it’s nearly impossible to keep those from smelling over time, as well as those shitty sock knee pads fall apart so fast
I have the venom elites. Best shin gaurds ive ever owned. Good protection and not too bulky. Plus i like that the velcro overlaps instead of goes through the metal pull loop cuz i have giant calves that don't always fit that style
I actually just sent the Venom elites back to Amazon and I was sad about it lol they were so beautiful but the velcro was digging into the back of my leg. I ordered a large because the chart but now I’m reading they run big. I’m 5’11.5 and weigh 170
Been using the venum elites for the past 3 years and loving them. One of the interior sleeves finally split open and probably just gonna buy the exact same pair again
Thanks for the info! I actually got a huge bruise and fracture on my big toe from using the RDX. I’ll be switching over to the Venum one with the ankle support to make sure it doesn’t happen again
My personal favourite is the fairtex sp5, the textured cloth inner lining and solid hook and loop straps mean they rarely slide. Also the padding is great.
I have the elite gel evos by venom and have tried so many brands and I agree they are the best as far as protection+ form factor. I also prefer the double strap over hook and loop because the loop portion always defrades and rips over time
Thank you for your product review. It was really detailed. Pros, cons, pricing, and practicality. I was trying to find something like the Venums for 20 but I don't think that's going to happen lol 😭
Thank you for the feedback. Yeah, you will have to get closer to a hundred dollars to get the quality and protection, $40 pads would suffice for a while, but have their shortcomings like i pointed out in the video. Thank you again for the comment.
I have Twins Sgl10s and Top King Pros. I'm gonna buy a pair of Hayabusa and try those out soon and I'm waiting on Fly to make a size small instead of a small/medium
Thank you man! Im between the fairtex sp5s and the venum elites. Gonna pull the trigger on some nice ones once im fully back into striking. Last year I bought 3 sanabul gis for jj then sprained my mcl a month in 😂 sucks i dropped a dime and cant even use em
Nice video bro. I've just started my muay thai and this video helped with what shin guards I should be getting. I was going to get the Venum ones but their smallest size is medium and I'm 5'4 so I don't think they will fit me properly.
The sock ones are for competition & people looking to compete without shin guards in the near future, they allso offer little protection for both yourself & sparring partner
I've carried Revgear here in my gym for many years. Their shin guards were decent and sufficient, but I could never say they were ever my favorite, but tastes vary. there was a pair of the "grappling" or MMA style shin guards that were popular with my students.
I’m a beginner kick-boxer (3 classes and counting) I am SO BRUISED on my shins today from kicking the heavy bag yesterday, what shin guards are best for a lightweight beginner?
I recommend the shin guards I was showing in the video. I don't have people kick bags with shin guards on. It makes things s bit wonky. Over time you'll build up a tolerance.
You will get used to it and your shin will get better. I had this 200 lbs heavy bag where all the sand was down so kicking it felt like kicking someones shin. It did condition me better
Very well made video with some great points, thank you! What brands would you recommend for the super padded/protective moon boot style shin guards? I've had guards that didn't fully cover my feet and I've suffered a couple toe injuries during sparring because of that, so I think the heavy duty guards would work just right for me. Where could I buy them?
If im just looking to do some heavy bag work which shin guard do you recommend? EDIT: Also, how do the RDX compare to the cheaper venum shin guards like the Venum Kontact or the Venum Kontact Evo shin guards.
I wouldn’t recommend using shin guard if you’re just doing bag work. It’s better to kick your bag with bare shins. Shin guards effect your contact and you also want to get used to the impact. We use shin guard primarily for contact with others.
I'm not a huge fan of slip on or sock type shin guards. they are always cheaper, but that because they are very thin and don't provide much protection. some people like them. I trained with a pair for years, but they were a bit different and provided solid protection even though they were slip on. I needed them for MMA so my guards didn't slide around during ground work.
its about damn time someone put a high quality video online for shin guards. Thank you for this context, vey informative.
Thank you for the positive feedback.
Dude! Excellent review. You seem like a genuine man who’s trying to help. Very much appreciated. Now I know what to buy for my daughter.
thank you very much for the kind words. I really do appreciate it.
Glad I saw this video before buying one.

I’ll have e to check those out. Thank you 🙏🏽

It was very helpful! Thank you!!!
thank you for the feedback
I’m 6’3 but have shorter shins I just ordered a pair of the venoms in large hopefully they fit
Getting rdx for kickboxing sparring my old guards are beat up and ripped
I have Twins Sgl10s and Top King Pros. I'm gonna buy a pair of Hayabusa and try those out soon and I'm waiting on Fly to make a size small instead of a small/medium
Which hayabusa ones did you try? And how did they go?
Also how are the twins shin guards bc im thinking of getting them
Had the venum strap bother the back of my knee so I just put the top strap loose and the bottom strap tight easy fix
I got the rdx one’s for now
Revgear is the best hands down they have been around the sport forever and make great affordable gear
Mine have got padding aswell
Thank you man! Im between the fairtex sp5s and the venum elites. Gonna pull the trigger on some nice ones once im fully back into striking. Last year I bought 3 sanabul gis for jj then sprained my mcl a month in 😂 sucks i dropped a dime and cant even use em
Hello, I wanted to buy the shin guards venum elite, I'm 5,10 what size would be better? M or L? I want them to fit tight, thank you!
I would think a medium would suffice. I am 6'4" and must always order XL.
did a medium fit good on you?
I have a pair of medium i gave to one of my students that is 6 foot 210 pounds and they fit him good
How were the shin guards? Did they slip much? How was the fit?
Medium
Great job 👍
😊🙏🏽

\ the shin pads from wusage which is a smaller thai company and are only 30 usd and they are just as good as the yokkao shin guards
I’ve got the sock rdx ones is there any point getting the strap ones or not ?
yes, I covered that a couple times in the video. They provide much more protection.
the sock type suck for protection
The sock ones are for competition & people looking to compete without shin guards in the near future, they allso offer little protection for both yourself & sparring partner
What would be an essential size shin guard for someone like myself 5’9 & 190lbs - I don’t have big calves either I would say normal size
couldn't say for sure. If there isn't a definitive sizing chart I'd say you're probably a medium or large.
I used the Revgear pro leather ones. Hardly move when adjusted properly.
I've carried Revgear here in my gym for many years. Their shin guards were decent and sufficient, but I could never say they were ever my favorite, but tastes vary. there was a pair of the "grappling" or MMA style shin guards that were popular with my students.
Hey I’m 5’7 you think a medium in the venom elites would fit me well ??🤔
Yes. That will work.
@@Krufessor_Rad thank you 🙏
What do you think of the Hayabusa shin guards?
They’re good. Just very expensive. But they are quality products.

yeah, I really like them.

Where is hayabusa from Because I thought that was a Thailand brand
I think they are located in Canada.
@@Krufessor_Rad what do you think of yokkao and twins shin pads
@@DanielSold_It they are solid and strong but bulky like the moon boots I mentioned in the video.
Thank you Soo much! I subed
Thank you 🙏🏽
Hey I go back to MMA on Tuesday and my shin guards are broken. I'm also quite a heavy kicker and my current ones are broken. I'm 13
Buy new ones or start kicking lighter
If im just looking to do some heavy bag work which shin guard do you recommend?

Solid video
Thank you.
My Rdx keep breaking
Great Video
🙏
Venum cuffs aren't "thick", they're wide
that's a great point. Thank you for clarifying.
Venom it is.
