Still can't believe this man went out the way he did... it just blows my mind.... one of... if not the greatest of all time... truly one of a kind... RIP Keith we all miss you...
Imagine being Keith Emmerson the wizard of the key's. Then finding out you are no longer able to play EVER again because of your hands. I don't know why he chose what he did, but I can see the level of devastation that diagnosis would cause someone like Keith. Keith didn't play just to be famous or have hit record's, the keyboard and the innovation he brought to it were a deep part of him and losing that when you still have so much to give I hate he did it but I can sympathize with him.
I understand what he must have been going through mentally... but his girlfriend said after his death that the awful feedback that he was getting from his fans after a bad show really did a number on him mentally those bad comments from fans hurt him deeply & psychologically...@@randysnewbiebluesrockguita7782
@randysnewbiebluesrockguita7782 honestly i understand why. When you're as good as Keith was on the keyboard its more then just passion or skill. It is your being. You were meant to use your fingers in that way on this earth. All of that just for it be ripped away from you
I was turned onto King Crimson as a kid of 10 and then ELP when I was 12 and have seen them live 5 times, always great music. Whenever I am depressed, I listen to the second impression of Karn Evil 9 and it cheers me up hearing this beautiful music. Keith meant a lot to a lot of people and he brought Joy along with Carl and Greg to my life for sure and I'm 62 now and still listen to them all the time and feel happy.
As always Keith is jamming it hard as only he can.My favorite version is still the live version from the "Welcome back my friends" album. If you never heard it,give it a listen It was a sonic tour de force. This version is pretty cool also.Appropriate for the time back then.Keith,we miss & live you.Nobody did it better than you, nobody ever will.
Absolutely....my favorite version is also on that Live album. After the slow signature organ intro...listen to the tempo Carl lays down right out of the gate at 0:25 on this version ruclips.net/video/Njbx8wJ78Qg/видео.html ......and Carl drives that song for the whole ten minutes w/o let up...giving Keith a solid base to explore the synth with....and that finale ! Wowee
TOTALLY AGREE ! The Live Aquatarkus on the "WBMF"-ELP-Album is one of the finest ever Live-Synthesizer-Achievements ever recorded. Keith Emerson managed to create incredible sounds out of his Moogs back then, and he was helped by that frenetic drumming of Carl Palmer. One outstanding moment in the history of ELP !
It must be hell to be an artist like him and to lose control of the tools you use for your craft. he had been having issues with his hands for many years and it is so sad that he felt the only way out was suicide. He is sorely missed....I met him many many years ago when I went to see them play in Scotland.....a gem of a man.
I had the fortune to film his last live peformance in front an audience at Palermo Classica in Semptember 2015. Never the less the difficult to play with his right hand. he was still great. I saw him happy for the evening show. I didn't think he would pass six mounth later in a tragic way
And yet, Keith Emerson with five usable fingers is better than most people with 10 (the help from Marc Bonilla doubling on guitar notwithstanding). Imagine that.
Ian Dale:I agree.I would rather have seen him retire than take his life.I know music was his life but he had millions of fans who loved him & would still cling to the memories.RIP.🎹🎼✝️
Kieth was really something, i mean I'm a huge huge fan of both Rick Wakeman and Patrick Moraz but nobody played keyboards like Kieth. I miss him so much, as i was a huge fan of his orchestral work as well. RIP Kieth, know that we all love ya.
so tragic a man of this quality and character may the good Lord truly have mercy on you my friend you are very talented musician things happen to people they get sick and they get hurt amen
Keith Emerson despite his right hand limited to 3 fingers (or 4 in certain ocassions), keeped his energy and hability to play complicated things and do keyboard solos the way he was known for. 1998 to 2008 was the best Keith's post surgery period, until during 2009-2010 his strenght beginned to dissapear. The 2010 reunion show with ELP showed the first loss of strenght, but the performance was mostly ruined because the band was unable to do a proper soundcheck before the show. If only there were a couple of extra dates, we would hear a better trio performance. Anyway, Keith's fingers begun to get weaker and weaker, and for 2014 he had troubles to improvise a simple thing. He was in Marty McFly losing his parents mode. He was preparing himself to tour again in 2016, but haters feeded his most obscure feelings and he couldn't take it. Maybe 2016 would showed us a Keith Emerson with new energy and renewed strenght, but he decided to take the worst way and end his life. "No money could save him..." Neither his japanese girlfriend was able to help him. Keith's loss was a tragic one. He was happy just playing, arranging, rewiring classics and composing new music, playing with chords, melodies and harmonies. One year before he first time piloted a plane and for that happening, he arranged an unedited old piece written and demo recorded with ELPowell in 1985, 30 years before, and retitled it "Beyond The Stars". Today, as always, we always love all his stuff, and we fall in love with his rare, unedited material. That hidden pieces are gold to be found. I always find that hidden unreleased material as it was a hidden treasure. Keith Emerson was and will always be one of our most beloved treasures ever.
Always great Keith. However the live version of this track from the "Welcome Back My Friends"stands out as the most explosive version of this track. If you never heard it,give it a listen. It will not disappoint.
The live version of Aquatarkus from 1972 is an ELP masterpiece. Unsurpassed. I happened to see last Sunday AquaTarkus rehearsal - Noddy's Puncture - 9.10.16 ruclips.net/video/N1M_-qkq6OM/видео.html&ab_channel=noddyspuncture This video shows how powerful and virtuous ELP's music was!!! ELP forever!!!!
he killed himself bc he was extremely self-conscious of what people thought of him. He was terrified of people thinking he was a washed up has-been and he couldn't take the pain anymore. Also the sheer amount of haters berating him on social media certainly didn't help

I really love the ending, completely unexpected, but a beautiful conclusion!
Keith is everybody's hero, no matter what instrument you play.
I am a guitar player but, my god I wish I could play keys as well as he could.
Wish Keith would've stayed with us.We,his fans, loved him.

If you listen to early 90s video game music, you will find he is the father of that genre
Saw him do this live in 2010 with Greg Lake. Blew me away. Highlight of the gig.
