Great vid, brings back memories. Had an 83' for years, from about 2001 to 2013. It had it's stretches of sitting but I got a lot of use out of it and re-built it once too. They were great engines and very reliable IMO. I'm not sure why they had such a bad reputation as well as the Forces...
I run a 1973 70HP Chrysler, 707HF. It's been a strong runner. It's had 120psi since I bought it over 10 years ago... but since I switched to Penzoil synthetic oil couple years ago, my compression has gone up to 125 psi. Assuming it freed up some carbon. My 70hp is smoky, but its a quiet running engine.
Best oil for old pre mix motors is synthetic Amsoil, limited smoke and the best lubrication properties there are. Penzoil and Quaker State will smoke the most and build up the most carbon. Stay away from them.
@@BrokenWrenches I have a 77 Chrysler Conquerer boat w a 105 and a 79 Chrysler Striper boat w a 70 HP Skier on it. Love these boats/motors. Use Amsoil premix oil not Penzoil or Quaker State and use NGK spark plugs for best performance. I also have good parts sources I can share !!
@@BrokenWrenches I hear ya. Got a 70HP Nissan that needs the full deal to. It's so far back on the back burner, it ain't even in my kitchen anymore lmao.
I’ve never had a boat but that was very interesting. You work on just about anything it seems. Never seen plugs like those center fire ones. Wonder would they work in pickup engine that was burning oil?
I do like some variety!! Boats always seem to need attention. This last weekend i installed that motor on my boat, recorded it and put a few photos of my restored boat in the next video. Ive never seen surface gap plugs used in autos. They take more energy to fire than a regular plug.
@@darrencatenacci2737 im not real sure why they used them on boat motors, ive only seen them in two strokes. I would guess they just are more resistant to carbon bridging the gap??? I dunno.
@@BrokenWrenches from what I read is during the early 80s they had to start rating hp at the prop. So Chrysler just used the 105 and renamed it 90. Only for one year as I’m told
@@fjb3544 that sounds about right. I also have an earlier 105hp, both of my 90’s are 1983 or 84 models. Also I believe that most of the larger 3-4 cylinder engines only utilized 2 different pistons across all the models. Can’t confirm that though.
@@fjb3544 i didnt. It was noticeable when i went from a 90hp 4 cylinder down to the 70hp 3 cylinder. Just not as much torque to get up on the plane. Top end wasnt as noticeable. I think the prop is the best way to change the boats performance in similar displacement engines.

Another excellent video! Thank you again from Australia.
thanks for watching!!!

I like them. I like the vintage look
Fascinating video, makes a refreshing change from the normal auto input.
Thanks for watching. I enjoy the variety as well.

I like blasting around the lake in a smokey old two stroke myself !! Kinda nostalgic i guess.

I appreciate ya watching. I might do that.
I've got a 105HP Chrysler, and it's a 1967. Different cowling too, from those 1970s models. Would love to have an 80s model with the cool decals.

I have a 85hp 1977 3 cylinder power trim and tilt Charger. I was told it was for Bass boat's they were trying to get in that market
Ive been running a Force s 125 h p same as Chrysler for 29 years
Also have a 85 H P in my garage that runs
My uncle has one hes run for about that long.
Take the prop off. its a lot easier to handle. Put anti seize on all of the bolts when you put it back together
Thanks for the tip.
