I bought the Wirefy version of these on Amazon. They work great and are well worth the price.

I evolved the same way you did. I still use the bolt cutter in the first (cheapy) pair you showed.
It cuts the bolt/screw, then dresses the threads as you unscrew it. If you have specialized terminals, buy the proper crimper for those terminals. Anything else will bite you when you're not looking. My ratcheting crimpers ratchet out to get a better bite during the crimping. I really like that feature. I also broke down and bought a 12T hydraulic crimper for my solar cables and battery cables. Best $36 I ever spent.

Been using these for about a year now. Mostly the none insulated terminal die. The Jaws are now having alignment issues (tries to twist the terminals). A solid set but I will be looking to upgrade.

Bought the Harbor Freight version. Tried them the other day, they aren't worth anything, don't crimp tight enough to make even a fair connection. I'm going to get the set recommended here. Thanks!

Can you test "hold your bolt for 3 seconds?"

I question the idea personally. Technically anything important you should be using a torque wrench. Modern "click click" torque wrenches let off as soon as they click, so it would be difficult to hold them.

Don't get you finger in that thing, it won't let go till there is nothing left!

I recommend that you examine every ratcheting crimper for the quick release pin in case something happens, BEFORE you use them. Some allow you to put a pick next to the gears and release it that way.

I think there is too much time spent on crimping tools and not enough time spent on quality lugs. The barrels on a lot of cheap lugs these days are very short. Back when I was in EE school and retired Navy Prof would always say to have a good electrical connection you need to start with a good mechanical connection.

This set is not good for crimping open barrel terminal specially the dupont. It damages the connector even with least pressure. With open barrel if i pull the wire it comes off quite easily.

Interesting. I've been using them on open barrel terminals with no issues. Depending on brand of the connector, I sometimes have to use the size smaller. No issues here, insulated or not. I wonder if they changed the model a bit?
