  • EDC Flashlights are essential to most people who work with their hands but the edc flashlight is not the only type of flashlight that people should consider. The tactical flashlight has its place and they should not be considered the same.

Cloud Defensive and Modlite are my go-to tactical lights. Unbeatable candela output and range. Surefire and Streamlight for EDC and pistol-mounted applications. I still have plenty of Olights laying around but they don't see much use anymore lol. Personally, I feel they're more of a liability than an asset, but that's just me. Not bad if you just want something to see in the dark and don't care about reliability.

It will be interesting to see the new cloud defensive pistol light once it comes out. The way they have been talking about it gets me excited.

I use a Surefire edcl1-t for a tactical flashlight and a Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA or an olight i5r eos titanium for a edc flashlight. Like you I want something dependable with higher candela for a tactical light and something with a wider spread for everyday tasks.

EDCL1-t is a great light. Like I mentioned in the video, high candela from a dependable company. I probably would’ve picked the Surefire edcl1-t if I didn’t already have a bunch of Modlite heads lying around.

I get your reticence about Olight. I don't doubt they may have some questionable business practices as they seem somewhat aggressive in their marketing. I have a few of their lights and have used them for EDC for years, and as a field engineer who works on a lot of different equipment in a variety of lighting environments they get used a lot. I also understand concerns about made in china products. There are products made there that offer superior features and value for their price range. Holosun comes to mind and I have a couple 507K RDS unit that I personally use and like and AFAIK have a lot of US design input and US people on their design teams. Knife manufacturing has similar examples of good products that shouldn't be dismissed simply for their point of origin. Electronics with potential back door access is an entirely different matter. Those should be very concerning.
As to tactical vs EDC, in my opinion tactical lights are geared toward high output, high candela units that often dont have useful low powered settings that produce 'just enough' light and focus on length of runtime. There is such a thing as too much light for a given task. Thanks for your videos. They're thought provoking and well done.

Thanks man! Yeah it’s funny. Everyone picks and chooses their battles with gear so it’s funny to see what some people land on.

My issue isn't with Olight as an individual company. It is the chain of command they answer to. By buying from them you are supporting their research to create something better. Normally thats cool but the breakthroughs they come up with will immediately be passed on to their military. Not cool.

Totally get that argument. I would be a hypocrite though if I went hard on Olight for that though. I definitely spend money on non firearm related items that originate from China. Hard to not do so when we are so connected economically.

@@overtimealex69 I understand where you're at. I think we're all stuck in the same place. Especially when a US company's competitive offering is 7 or 8 times the cost like Cloud Defensive's MCH. Throw Bidenflation into the mix and now we have no idea half the time if something worth what they're asking. I am stoked to see good American Made products at a great deal when I see them though and think we all should always consider supporting them every chance we get.
