I've got an old D520 (8GYCZB1) that last booted in Oct 2013.. but the screen is completely black, shining a light doesn't show anything. Any idea what the problem could be?
Can you help me please. I got a new laptop screen and payed someone to change it but it doesnt change brightness as it's always so bright. And I've downloaded all drivers so I'm so sure it's not a software error.

I have replaced the inverter board, lcd and even tried to swap with another entire lid. Still no luck. I was tired and left it for a year and used with connecting to an external monitor it works fine. But recently I left the laptop power dead for couple of weeks and when I turned it on the bizzare thing happened. The backllight was working fine. I could use it for two days without any problems. After I shut down it. Now the problem is back and I could do everything possible. Is this could be a motherboard problem?. If then how could it work for couple of days fine?
Glad you could fix your laptop but the video could be much better. You break the bezel first thing. then you don't tell us the voltage needed to test the backlight. then you replace the zero ohm fuse resister but you don't tell us how to locate it. And the music is totally unnecessary.
I am not sure how to process this video except a little disappointed. I heard music, started dancing, fell asleep, woke up and screen worked??? My Dell Latitude D620 has a very strong screen, it is not dis-colored, it just goes black, when it feels like it. No faint visuals, no Dell splash screen, just goes black after 3 minutes or 16 minutes. I have the OEM Dell diagnostic disc's, and the only time I can reproduce the problem is when I run: System data bus stress test. The screen goes black immediately. I have changed the SDRAM (Both) with 1 in, the other in, then switched as the data stress failure indicated online. I made sure each where clean contacts, properly inserted or ajar. Using the Dell CD's and diagnostics, I can run video testing and every single other test 12 or more times. Yes, 19 - 22 hours of everything. Only does the data bus stress cause the same issue. I am a retired ASE Master tech and have repaired TV's radios, built electronics and replaced parts on my own laptop, but this video was disheartening. A good tech never quits, we are strongly independent and fix our own stuff, like the washer, dryer, condenser fan in fridge or what. As an auto tech who worked on everything for decades, you have already learned hydraulics, HVAC, electrical...everything. I would like to say I learned something here, but I would lying. Sorry.
