- Finally got around to talking about the two games that came out in the aftermath of Spider-Man 3 and attempt to make this series great again. Oddly enough, both of these have a weird fixation on an alien invasion and villains as sidekicks for the player.

I actually liked Web of Shadows, I like the different characters with Luke Cage and Moon Knight, which you hardly ever see in a Marvel game!
Moon Knight needs a game, or Netflix show...or anything really.
seems like spider-man games would be the best to introduce those types of characters with relevance.

I played web of shadows one of the things I liked about it is that I in big fight u can choose good guys or bad guys to help u . Like vulture or Luke cage which was awesome . God love it.

I always found similarities between Web of Shadows and Prototype :
"Infected" people becoming zombies, story starting with a later scene and then the game is the flashback telling how this will happen, & body surfing.

we finally have a game where you can make evil choices as Spider-Man and fully utilize the black suit both in fights and in character behavior , and it's done awesomely , be happy for it , and it's a CHOICE , you can completely ignore that if it makes you feel uncomfortable or like a fake Spider-Man
sol ky yeah I've always found it odd how people can complain about choice when given the choice to ignore the undesired option they could have just as easily forced you to be a dick and use the black suit but as we can tell there are people that don't like black suit Spidey so the choice is a positive thing right

Plus I'd be willing to bet there's a significant overlap between edgy gamers who like to screw around and Spider-Man fans.

For me Web of Shadows is the definitive Spider-Man experience. I may have to play it again sometime.

Asylum117 I'm right there with y. I could really care less about trophies, but unlockables likes skins and such are also missing, that's what I don't understand. If another version (including the wii of all systems) can have a complete version, then why wouldn't they just put everything on the ps3 as well. It's a great game on its own, I just get bored looking at the same skin all the time and don't want to have to buy it on my computer as well just to mod a skin in.

Web of Shadows was one of my favorites, it was a breath of fresh air after the previous two games.
Well at least “friend or foe” is no longer the last thing to exist with the Raimi movies anymore.

The choice system made me feel like I was playing as the Spider-Man when i was a kid. In part 1 you said "why isn't there a game where you can Be The Spider-Man?" this in my opinion, was the closest thing we got. Not once did I think to myself "what would Spider-Man do?" when making a decision, which made me feel so immersed in the game.
The choices you made would lead to about 6 different endings by the way.

Bartman I hope the new game does something similar like maybe there are shocker side missions and you have to fight him multiple times but it's different every time and maybe there are choices where you can beat him for the last time or just go on a date with MJ and later you have to fight shocker more times

web of shadows doesnt really fit as a replacement for spiderman 3 its more like a sequel to ultimate spiderman

In my opinion, if ultimate Spider-Man took place in the OG universe, web of shadows would be the PERFECT sequel (plot wise at least).
darkknightfan75 Yup. It takes place before Civil War, as evidenced by the newspapers regarding the Superhero Registration Act found around the city.
You're not far off with your assessment that Web of Shadows was the successor to SM3. There were many on the SM3 team that thought it was garbage during development. The most vocal were subsequently "banished" to work with Shaba Games on Web of Shadows after SM3 shipped. WoS provided an opportunity to fix a lot of the issues with SM3. The credit for much of the gameplay and concept go to Shaba Games, but a small band of rebels from Treyarch were in the trenches, as well.
Side note: New York City was completely redone for SM3. The streets were wider in SM3, increasing the distance between swing anchors. That contributed a great deal to the swinging mechanic feeling "not good" in SM3.
Additional side note: The building tech and assets were loaned to Radical Entertainment when they were developing Prototype. If you look at the city in Prototype, it looks awfully familiar.
Last side note: Web of Shadows was originally called Red vs Black. Which is, objectively, a better title.
Huh. Interesting to hear really. Not surprising. Though I disagree with your last comment. Red vs Black sound cringy as hell. Web of Shadows works way better for the subject matter imo.
Imagine if Insomniac or another developer suddenly announced they were completely remaking this game but keeping a ton of the assets. Web strike, Web slinging, spider sense mechanics most of the gameplay. Combat was getting overhauled (including Wall combat) to be more Spider Man like. Better graphics and character models. Better voice acting. Josh Keaton as Spider Man and Steve Blum as both Venom and Wolverine. Going all in with the moral choices and the Black Suit having more of a set story impact rather than "Oh yeah it only makes gameplay changes". I think it would be awesome. I'd love to see it. Yuri Lowenthal may be Spider Man from the PS4 exclusives but Josh Keaton is who I'd want for the Spider Man: Web of Shadows Remake

The fundamental flaw of the "this can't happen" rant is that symbiote biology and anatomy are not universally consistent. Ultimate spider-man being a prime example. Ghidorah Venom still makes no sense though

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe was literally my childhood and I was really sad when I played it last year to find out that it was actually not that good. Although, if I had it in front of me with a sibling or a friend I would play it all day long

EDIT: This game does have New Game + its just really stupidly hidden. You gotta watch the credits the entire way through, then at the main menu, hit continue, and watch the credits in it’s entirety again, then the 2nd time you hit continue you’ll start New Game +. I didn’t wanna delete my comment, so I just edited it.

Web of Shadows is probably the best Spiderman game so far, although I will say this. Once you complete the game, you have to start again. No free roaming, no New Game +, you're just done and you have to start again if you wanna keep playing. I've completed it 4 times but there's 2,100 fucking spider tokens to collect and I can never come close before beating the game.
So once the game's complete, you have to completely start over? Won't be buying the game if this is the case.
+Michael D Well you have to play the game multiple times anyway if you want to see the different endings. I just don't continue with missions and play free roam either during the start when everything is normal or near the end with all thee symbiots

i don't think you will start over. I completed this game 5 times and i can assure you after you end this game, you can start over with your progress and upgrades!

Those were good times. A ton of marvel side characters because it doesn’t make sense for the entire city to be in chaos and you not run into at least one other hero. Meanwhile today when video games have a bigger budgets than ever we have to settle for finding Matt murdock’s business card behind a dumpster, then be excited that he simply exists even though we’ll never see him
This game had less than a year to be made. Its still one of the best.
Spider-Man: Friend or Foe was actually pretty fun when I was a kid and I still play it from time to time. I just enjoyed destroying easy to beat goons to pass the time. But the thing that really made it awesome for me and surprisingly enough, some of my family, was the fighting arena you could go to where 2 players battled each other. My brother, dad, and I always enjoyed that part of the game and whenever Friend or Foe is brought up, we immediately go to the battle arena. This game set up a better bond between me, my siblings, and my parents have to admit, it was quite a fun game, even though it was like a Lego kids video game. It certainly doesn't have the most perfect gameplay but it's moderately okay. It defined a part of my childhood, so I always hold it there in my heart.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows was in my opinion, by far the best, if not one of the best Spider-Man games to be created. The web-swinging had great mechanics and for the time it was created, pretty good graphics. Although the plot wasn't very original, it definitely made itself out to be really good. It showed the true impact of a symbiotic virus in New York. I really enjoyed the inclusion of other Marvel character's, such as Moon Knight and Luke Cage. The ending was by far the most nerve-racking for me as a little kid. The giant symbiote monster that you had to fight absolutely terrified me and I had to hand the controls back to my dad because I couldn't do it. When the game ended, I was a little saddened free roam wasn't an option due to how amazingly good the web-swinging was when you had to do street gang take-down missions. The quick-time events were certainly the most frustrating part of the game and I sometimes had to take a break because of it. Nonetheless, this game has a special place in my heart and I still wish I could have the time to complete it by myself.

Friend or Foe was my introduction to Spider-man, and I loved it.
I disagree on the choice mechanics, i think it's well implemented.
One of the trade marks of the black suit is that when Spider-Man is on it he becomes douchy and sometimes evil, so the fact that choosing black makes Spidey a douche is in character.
The choice is suppoused to represent wether the symbiote is taking over or Peter is keeping it at bay.
And again it's done well, both versions act like they should Imo.

Loved this game as a kid. Sooo nostalgic! But the limited simple nature of this game made Web of Shadows epic to me since that was my first actual good game.

so the only bad thing u can say about the game is that its doesnt adhere to the lore but its actually a different universe where all of this can happen so it seems this is pretty much a perfect game
web of shadows' combat was so satisfying and also symbiotic wolverine was cool af
he uses a web shield just like in MVC and other oldschool fighting games, they gave a good attention to the combat details on this game
I enjoyed the shit out of Friend or Foe as a kid. That was my game. Yes, it's not good, but it will forever hold a spot in my soul.

for what ever reason me and my little bro played the shit out of Friend or Foe, we beat the whole story and had all the characters unlocked and we would duel. it was fun as hell. that game has a soft spot for me.
