When my dad was in college, for his film class he went to universal to borrow a Spider-Man costume. This was that in-between time where the Raimi movies hadn't come out yet, so Islands of Adventure was the only place with a good costume locally. Oddly enough, when I watched this old project that had an official Spider-Man costume in it, I noticed it wasn't the typical theme park costume from like 14:50 in this video. It was actually the "voter Spidey" costume. I don't know how or why, but my dad had one of the most iconic and important Spider-Man costumes in his possession for a brief time, and got to film a brief skit with it.
It might be because at that time Voter Spidey wasn't fully phased out yet so they had some leftover stock that wasn't going to Universal. It could have also been due to Universal Spidey just being rolled out and there weren't enough of those suits yet. Whatever the case that's super cool and I feel instinctively Jealous.

My dad cosplayed as Spider-Man when he was around 20 and it was such a classic, it reminded me of the 60’s show costume

My favorite non-movie Spider-Man suit was the one from one of those commercials for Spider-Man PS4 suits they put out. You know, the one where Black Panther's dad died and Captain America fought Iron Man.
One of my favorite childhood memories is of the time I went to Universal Studios and my parents said we didn’t have enough time left to go on the Spider-Man ride that day. I was disappointed that I would have to wait until the next day to ride the ride I was most excited about. My dad and I walked into what is now a comic book store next to the ride, and lo and behold, there was Spider-Man taking photos with other kids. I got my picture taken with him, and he asked what I thought of his ride. I told him about how I wasn’t going to be able to ride it until tomorrow, he wrote me up a fast pass signed, “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”, so I got to skip the line and ride it immediately. The ride was amazing AND I got my hero’s autograph. As an eight year old kid, that was pretty amazing.

God damn this video is EXTRA. Like, I never thought I needed this info but now I can't imagine being a Spidey fan and not knowing it. I don't even know how you got all this info but thank you so much for the hard work and dedication. I want copies of all these suits in my home. Died of laughter when you said "The great stuntman massacre of 2010" but really the Turn Off The Dark suit is surprisingly good. It's different but different good instead of different-oops-we-accidentally-made-Ben-Reilly like the first TASM suit and the MCU Iron Spider.

Ye, while the Broadway show was a mess, the suit was definitely a positive of the show aside from visual appeal.
Is it weird that I'm probably one the few people who unironically enjoyed Turn Off The Dark? Then again, I saw when I was 12, so...

Well, Supaida-Man came out in 1988 while Gorenger, the first Super Sentai team came out in 1975. The mechas were already present in the series at that point, but Supaida-Man boosted interest in tokusatsu, namely Super Sentai. Power Rangers came five years later in the U.S. after Supaida-Man first aired.
Supaidaman came out in 1978

I actually saw the Roy Thomas one in person once. They put it on display at Terrificon 2017, where I actually got to meet Mr. Thomas after a panel. Such a nice guy.
I actually really liked that 70s Spider-man eyes. It looked like the mirror thing and I think the blur hides the holes well enough on screen.

From what i heard from a friend who works in the costume dept at Universal Orlando, the costumes are made from scratch in house with materials approved from Marvel. I thought there was a costume company making them.

I'm actually a really big fan of Voter Spidey's narrow lenses, makes it stand out from the rest in a noticeable way.
There are lots of photos online of the Spidey Electric Company costume (played by Danny Segren), and you can clearly see that the webbing on the suit is haphazardly done with a black sharpie pen. As cheap as this costume looked, compared to the 1st one with the purple pants, the Electric Company Spidey suit looks like the 2002 movie suit.
9:35 The first Sentai Series "Himitsu Sentai Goranger" was aired in 1975, 3 years before Supaidaman. Actually the series was coming out at the same time that JAQK Dengekitai was airing. It's true that Supaidaman is a Tokusatsu show, but it's Supaidaman who was inspired by Sentai, not backwards.
Also can we talk about how dedicated those suit actors were? Almost all those pictures show them in the hunched over crawling pose EVEN WHEN JUST DOING INTERVIEWS!! THOSE GUYS ARE CHAMPS!

I think for the two live show suits, they look so similar because they are going by the same techniques so that the details can be noticed at a distance.
22:42 exactly my point. The black lines are desperately needed, its not just that theres a huge gap where theyre missing on that suit, its that the classic suit is missing them all together. Lol of course in trolling a bit, but theres a color diffenciency i never noticed until tom the best spider man ever hollands suit in civil war and homecoming, and the black fixes it and makes the suit feel more expensive and designed to be satisfying to the eye. Its perfect. I love thr classic and many others of course and i definitely like some other suits better but strictly to movies, and other life action suits, DEFINITELY the homecoming suit. Or maybe the ffh suit. That ones really cool too. But too different to like more than the homecoming suit.

I totally like the Nicholas Hammond Spiderman costume, web shooter and all, the costume went through minor improvements, during the short series run, and is a modified Eaves Brook type.
I wonder if the Insomniac Games took interest of the “Turn off the Dark” suit, redesigned it by replacing the lenses, back logo and the webs then put it in the (maybe) next update (or game) as one of the 3 to 5 skins along with:

All I’m saying is that not all things can be erased that easily or forgotten at all, like me struggling to acquire me to make my own Spider-man suit in Future Revolution, my outfit loadout for Deku (Shoot Style) in MHA: One’s Justice and my build in Jump Force for raid purposes.
I saw that Roy Thomas in person (I volunteered to work at Big Apple Con. Roy Thomas is super nice, btw).

I guess I have one of the Universal suits mentioned at 18:00 minute mark. When I got it, I thought I had been scammed. It has the rubber pads glued to the palms and fingers. The feet appear to have been held onto shoes or boots with Velcro. The material is pretty heavy except for the mask. The mask is worn to the point where you can see through most of it. The webs are terrible, they appear to have been done with a sharpie...lots of bleeding. There is a Universal Studios label sewn inside the suit right between the right shoulder and neck. The pattern appears to be almost the same as an Eaves Brooks design but without the interior shoulder straps. Also, the point in the "belt" is a part of the belt..not a round part overlapping the belt. Lastly, the seller claimed that the material used is supposed to be fire resistant because the show had pyrotechnics in it. If it weren't for the bleeding marks from the webs and the worn out mask, it would be a really nice suit! Well, the eyes look a little funny too but they could be fixed. Great video!!!

I think I like the Turn Off The Dark suit. I dunno, it just seemed more... Creative? I like how it faded the red and blue peices and there's some orange to show off the more darker peices. If I could fit into spandex, I would totally get a replica if it.
