I don't think Nintendo would make a major announcement out of the blue. They would send out a tweet telling everyone to look forward to the presentation tomorrow. So I'm thinking the official announcement is tomorrow or Friday if they want to make it this week.
In the discussion of Nintendo implementing gimmicks to the Switch 2, I think that kind of experimentation should be encouraged. If it’s a gimmick you don’t like then just don’t use it, I’m pretty sure most game devs know now having the option to toggle it on or off in their respective games is a good thing for players who may not like it. Look I’m not saying Nintendo hasn’t missed in the past or that we shouldn’t criticize some of their decisions, but experimenting and pushing the envelope, whether good or bad, is their greatest advantage in the gaming industry. While PlayStation and XBox are having a most realistic 100k experience off, we need a console that at least tries to put fun first and for most back in gaming.
I keep seeing people say they NEED to show the console now - why? If the console is releasing in April/May 2025, why reveal it now? I feel like 6 months is a good amount of time for a lead up so I’d imagine a January 2025 reveal.
I wonder if the Switch 2 will have a built-in upscaling solution (like a universal button) specifically for Switch titles, to emphasize that this is a clear (no pun intended) upgrade from and for your Switch library.
I dunno, man. Like, yeah, them being silent today and how they announced Switch’s first trailer would happen the night before makes it entirely possible we get another nighttime reveal like that. On the other hand, there were plenty of NX leaks before the console came out, so I dunno how much they actually care about leaks as long as the full reveal is on their own terms. So I dunno how much they legitimately need to have done that reveal before now. I mean, with how dubious any given leak is (remember the weird oval people claimed was NX?) they might know the real stuff will be buried under fakes. And if we do still get something this week, the fact the first major leaks of specs and possible looks at the console were the night before is way closer than the Switch leaks, which had gone on a long time, IIRC. The best Switch 2 has had was vague rumblings about backwards compatibility here and “strong as PS4 Pro” there. So they did pretty darn good keeping stuff under wraps, all things considered.

the design I'm seeing here makes me a little worried. One of the reasons the Wii U failed was because Nintendo didn't communicate properly that it was their next-gen console. They made it sound like the gamepad was just another accessory to the Wii and it didn't help the fact the Wii U console itself looked exactly like the Wii. This looks exactly like the traditional Switch and I'm worried consumers will think this is just an upgraded Switch and not the new console.

They're dragging their feet with this thing. There are a lot of third party games coming out in the near future that I'm interested in, but I don't want to buy them for the old Switch anymore because they'll run subpar. We all know it's coming, now it's leaked (shocker) and still crickets. At the moment I'm more annoyed than excited.

@@Whattheflip64 There will be a completely new box layout for the games and the system, it will be fine. Everyone will know it is completely new. A MASSIVE number of games will have labels that say “not compatible with Switch 1 model” and the more tech savvy kids of this generation will understand what that means. The big confusion with the Wii compared to the Wii U was that the Wii was a gimmick with a casual audience that didn’t care about power and therefore the biggest games on the Wii like Wii Fit and Wii Sports looked like absolute trash far behind the current gen and people just assumed that Nintendo would somehow coast with that formula. The Switch has a much more traditional hardcore gamer install base that wants bigger and better versions of the games they got on the Switch 1 and that can only happen with a new console.
@@westonmeyer3110 the sales of the switch for hardcore gamers are probably around 13 million. The same amount of sales the Wii U had because those buyers cared enough to look into the system. I don’t think you know how much of the switch sales are casuals. Casuals make up so much more of the Nintendo gaming population than you think

I certainly didn’t own a Wii U(I was actually in the camp that believed the Wii U was just an add on for the Wii LOL)I didn’t even own a Wii or a Gamecube(I did buy the Vita and 3DS day 1 though). The entire world has greatly changed since even when the Wii U was revealed, today’s “casual” gamer is more equivalent to a hardcore gamer from the 90s with even your average girl in their 20s knowing what big games are coming out. Younger boomers and older Gen Xers who actually owned the first gaming consoles are now the “old people” and millennials are now the parents buying games for their kids as opposed to boomers during the PS1 and PS2 generation, gaming is now mainstream throughout every active generation. Not only am I not worried that the Switch 2 will fail, I am confident that the Switch 2 will dwarf the success of the Switch 1 and PS2 very very easily. Nintendo will have to really screw this whole thing up software wise for the Switch 2 to not sell 200 million units.

The problem is now that we have handheld consoles like the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, why would we buy a Switch other than first party games like Zelda? It's already looking to be underpowered compared to handhelds that are already in the market. With any other handheld, you have better performance, a bigger library of games. The original Switch made sense at the time, but where does the Switch make space in the market now? Are we buying it just for Zelda and Mario now? I don't know if I missed anything in the video, but I want to know the details on how the Switch 2 would be a competitive offer in this day and age. It feels like these days i just watch a Nintendo Direct just see what new games are out that I should buy on Steam, letting my Switch gather dust. I fear I'll be doing the same going into this new generation.

Switch 2 is on par with the deck but even then it would be emulated easily. The steam deck 2 is coming in a couple years.
