As a filmmaker, it's exciting when you graduate from using a mirrorless camera for video to a cinema camera. That is, until you realize that some of your favorite video features and functionality from your mirrorless camera are NOT in the much more expensive cinema camera.

What mirrorless camera features do you want most in your next cinema camera?

Yup. Good stuff. I shoot with a couple C70's. One Sony function I'm a little jelly over is Variable NDs on FX6. Sure you can set Iris to auto for that certain indoor/outdoor shot but not the same. I'd like to see box style added too. If you're shooting a stripped down version of the C70 with just a lens it's not so bad but when you rig it up it gets goofy. All the buttons on one side of the camera would be nice too. The C70 they are literally all over the place. But overall I love where the cinema cameras are going. You can do a lot with a little compared to 10-15 years ago.

For sure. I shot a few films with the original Sony FS5 and the variable ND was (by far) the best part about that camera. Though, it would be hard for me to lose the 10-stops of ND that the C70 gives me versus the 7-stops of Sony's vari-ND. It's needed to shoot at f1.4 or f2 on a sunny day. Agreed the C70 would serve better in a box-style camera than it's current setup.

Exactly! Which is why the C300/FX6/FX9 and all the others should have them too.

Highly doubt that the R7 has open gate recording.

Fx6 already have 1-3 open gate would be nice but they just updated to at least have different framing guides so you can frame for multiple tiles of media.

The FX6 has custom mode dials and a usable EVF? I've used it quite a few times, but don't remember either of these functionalities. And yes, open gate and native 3:2 sensors would be great!

@@CurrenSheldon not a connected ever but you can but one I believe. And you can customize the buttons and dials on it yes.

True, custom buttons are all over cine cams, but it often takes 3-4 button presses or a menu configuration to get to the settings that you want - whereas with custom mode dials, it's just a simple turn.@@tylerjames3620

@@CurrenSheldon okay I must be a bit confused about the dial thing then. I feel like that’s like a package deal with the buttons depending on what setting you choose but you mean just the dial itself.
