I loved that whole scene except the pan across the audience's faces. That was sappy. Everything else was amazing. Seeing the T-1000 and Jurassic Park clips, the older clips from Bunuel and Godard and Kubrick....the dye process and the jazz score in the background...that brought tears to my eyes.

It’s all I ever wanted from a movie.
I went to see it with my girlfriend and she didn’t like it because there were a few scary moments (snake, crocodile), but as someone who studies film very broadly at college, I absolutely loved it. It’s a piece of film history, and it tells us a lot about film history and the film industry in general; the actors were great and fit their roles perfectly and it’s just so meaningful and profound that you can’t really put it into words, especially the scene at the end, where he sits in the theatre. People just need to see it for themselves 👏 I’m still in awe

The actors are fantastic, the direction and cinematography are phenomenal, the music is memorable (I hope it gets the Oscar, it deserves it). The script was chaotic but so powerful and moving. The editor should cut the Freak show part with Toby to make it under 3hour.. I love Toby, but the part of the story was not the crucial story. I head many of the story were facts but it doesn't mean it must be there if the plot flow in a faster pace, it won't loose the audience.
I remember another long movie that was able to capture audience and wanted more with various sub stories, the pace was just right and was not disconnected. If you haven't seen A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, you have to see it, Jody Foster played a window and spoke French in this moving WW1 film, which also launch the careers of Marion cutier, Audrey tutor, the late Gaspard Ulielle etc

It is a masterpiece. 3h was a little bit long but everytime I thought It is going to end it gave me another unexpected scene and change of event. It made me to want more. I was so so impressed. The actors played their parts so well and music. Oh man. I still listen to the soundtrack. I left cinema feeling excited. I'm not saying this is the best movie ever seen becouse for me it is and always will me Matrix (so deep analogy of life) but if someone asks me about my favourite movies Babylon definitely will be there. But as someone mentioned, it isn't for masses. It is for people who appreciate the art as it is. Thank you x

Ended up going in to Babylon nearly an hour after it started so I missed - quite happily - the elephant poop and orgy . And what i did see, that remaining 2 hours and 20 minutes or so...... I thought was FANTASTIC. Was it insanely OTT? Well yes. But it was also just a magical trip into the past and then into the future. I kind of saw it as a really bittersweeet love song to movies and theatres, how short our time has been together and how the advent of streaming is killing the cherished ritual of attending a film in a theatre (alone in the dark with a roomful of strangers, as Roger Ebert said)

@@djangowest1754totally worth it. I’ve seen it twice. I understand the criticism as it doesn’t adhere to a typical structure that people are comfortable with.
First of all, it starts off very crudely and over the top, which can cause some people to roll their eyes because it feels like it’s trying really hard, but as soon as we shift to the incredible set piece involving multiple silent movies being filmed at once, the kinetic energy, pacing, score, action, acting, editing and performances are so masterfully done that in that one sequence alone, you understand everything about the time period. It’s a really fun, imaginative ride. And because it doesn’t have a traditional love story arc or “then this is what happened” narrative, I think some people were maybe a little surprised by it, since it stars very safe and bankable movie stars.
But the experience of watching this kind of movie, which was actually shot on film, and being able to stay with all the twists and turns, it’s a better experience on the big screen.
My only real criticism is that some of the screenwriting felt a bit reductive and broad so when we get more serious parts of the film, it feels a bit disjointed. But even with that being the case, I liked it better the second time.

Just saw the film. Huge Productions have NEVER worked to build a relationship with an audience. Without the simple relationship between character and audience, YOU WILL NOT FIND AN AUDIENCE. Visual candy isn't enough.

It got overshadowed by avatar 2.
Just left the theater and enjoyed this puzzling experience.

Awesome movie. I lived in hollywood for a bit and loved looking up old sights jthatvhad stories
I especially love when I got to go to paramount and Gower studios. They were still telling stories about how insane things were ar Gower

The first part is a masterpiece for sure, right up until where they put a title on it. They knew they had something there.

This is a great movie you have to appreciate its beauty for its imperfections similar to Jack Conrads arguement in film how some art forms are frowned upon from Ivory towers this film is raw, edgy and unapollogetic in its delivery an homage to a century of cinema .

Even if this is Chazelle’s last blank check, I don’t think it was a waste. Is it self indulgent? Overlong? Of course. But can you blame the guy? He was allowed to make whatever he wanted! The jazz and the intensity of Whiplash! The Hollywood dream and more jazz of La La Land 😂 this guy has always been honest about what he likes
