It‘s even an issue for those that want to help other players because people either don‘t listen. Or even assume that we (because of the crown) are giving bad advice. People also want to help but don‘t have the mentor crown on or aren‘t mentors to begin with. All what becoming a montor really does is giving your access to a place that many people call toxic (aka. novice network)

Can I mention that it's such BS? If you do this dungeon with trusts, there's an interactions where ryne walks incredibly tepidly and slow, and urianger rescues her at the last second. So when my friend right after me went to run the dungeon the first time, I tried rescuing him thinking I was helping and everyone just yelled at me

Pretty sure about half of the people with Mentorship are trolls~ So personally wouldn't be surprised if somebody specifically with a Mentor crown did something to try and wipe the group But I'm just like what mental trickery did they do that made 'you' stack all 7 other people if you saw somebody running in with a raidbuster mark?
Listen sometimes I like to get hte tankbuster from Nero in praetorium, and sprint away. He chases you and tries so hard to hit you but if you time it right eventually the tankbuster just auto lands xD
@@OrbitalDeathRay If a tank does that, just run ahead and keep doing the dungeon normally. Most classes can tank a pack of enemies, it will just require the healer to heal more than with a tank. Obviously you can't wall to wall pull, but it's better than waiting around for them. Had an alliance raid where out tank didn't have stance on, so for any fight that required each alliance to fight their own mob, I was the one tanking it as a Reaper and I survived through multiple tank busters due to my own shield and my healers keeping me alive. Literally had a tank get annoyed in Antitower because our SAM pulled the first 3 enemies (there's a wall right after them), so he turned off stance and stood around typing the whole time. We just kept going through the dungeon and then someone put up a vote kick right before the boss.
As a mentor who wears the crafting mentor symbol after ONLY making Lemonade, gathering for a day, and leveling only with Leve quests (Seriously, I've only made lemonade.) I live for this moment
Played FF14 for only two months, I realized that mentors are either so helpful that it overloads my brain with way too much information or just completely inept. I GROANED every time I saw a crown icon.
Bunch of mentors just want to crown just for show. A lot of times they don’t even bother helping or teach mechanics on new players, like the extreme trials, they rage quit in the middle of it. What’s the point having mentors system if they are unwilling to have any patience or teach sprouts any mechanics in new dungeons. Although at least your mentors that you team up are helpful on overloads you with informations to help new players compare on having hot headed ones that insults and leaves with too much pride on themselves. Having mentor system is just useless now other than for show
@@coffeelink943 There were way more mentors that provided zero help than those that did. 3 or 4 mentors provided too much help while the others were absolutely insufferable.
It's unfortunate that they put prizes behind becoming a mentor. There should be no crown, no mount, no nothing. It should just be the people who want to help other people. That'd go a long way toward filtering a lot of the baddies out.
I was healing this level 85 war in a dungeon. The dude was doing small pulls and even then refused to use Bloodwhetting. I asked him to do larger pulls and use bloodwhetting. He ignored me, and then called me bad right before he left. Ahmazing.
The fact he doesn't do large pulls at that level offends me. My general rule as a tank is that once I reach 10k+ health, I do large pulls, but not too large to avoid possible death. Essentially, I go bigger and bigger as my health pool gets bigger

yesterday the MT in a raid kept spinning the boss nonstep, he actually managed to get me killed as a ranged job. I was going to ask him to not spin the boss, but he was a king of burgers, so i prefered to keep tanking the floor. went to make a coffee instead, it was nice.
Had a Scholar healer who bought a skip sporting the Endwalker title. Gear was all white with a bit of green, way underlevelled for the content (levelling roulette). Ran headfirst into the first pack of mobs that everyone else was running around to skip. Ok, no problem. I was tanking so I popped sprint, backtracked to grab them, then carried on with the pull. Nothing too crazy. Didn't get healed while I popped extra mitigation though the healer was in range, so I died, but got a swiftcasted rez (good). First pull dies. Guy asks for everyone to stop so he can set up a macro. Ok, we wait 2 minutes and the rest of us have some light emote banter. I'm curious and ask what the macro is for. "STOP RUNNING AWAY SO I CAN HEAL YOU" "there." "when I figure out how to make it heal, it will also heal". I'm just stunned and said I wasn't sure what to say. Worst encounter I'd had in the game thus far. Guy must've kept stopping to try to hardcast heals in the middle of a sprint pull, without popping sprint either. Then gets mad that the tank is... pulling. Am I missing something? Honestly I was tempted to just leave, but that would've inconvenienced everyone else. Dps replies "bruh". Then they start aggroing the next pack to nudge us to move on. Rest of the dungeon, healer just spammed Physick on me (didn't use the other healing spells for that level) and didn't dps. I'll be damned. Left a real sour taste in my mouth that I can't get out of my mind.
Im so sorry….flip side time! I main heal (ok cool) so all I do is heal. (Yeah I can dps or tank if need be! Not that awful) Had an expert dungeon and the tank NOT ONCE mitigated ANYTHING! They’d pull big…No mits nothing. Tank buster? Nope. Was so miserable I even started begging the player to mit. Nope. Nothing. No response nothing. I nearly stopped healing but I healed for my dps who had better places to be too :x but If I had my way I wouldve let him die over and over again until he mit.
Should've just kicked them This is the problem with story and level skips though. Yeah it works for alts, but the majority are just impatient people who know have no idea about their character or the story. Why play the game at that point

My crown is 100% for show. I don't even have mentor roulette unlocked. I always worry that I'm gonna do something stupid and do the crown an injustice. But at least I understand what a tankbuster is.
Wait really? I've had players pull massive groups towards me when I tank and I never thought of it outside of their impatience (albeit, it is annoying when I don't have at least 10k health. Once I reach 10k+ health, then I go big)

Had that situation in LotA. One lala tank was intentionally grabbing the Iron Giant and making him destroy the rocks so the Behemoth meteors would keep wiping the raid. Only got past that because of a lucky healer res that saved my party.
This reminded me I had a Tank in a Yanxia fight who RP walked on every boss and wall. It got to the point I intentionally aggro'd the second boss and they stopped doing it since they realized we weren't one of those teams that would wait.
There is this one old anime I watched 15 or so years ago called D Grayman. Now, I've forgotten like 99% of the plot and such, but when I see mentors like this, one thing from that anime instantly resurfaces from my memory. The name of the protagonist's "final form": Crown Clown. I find it funny. It's such a good name.
I met a mentor in Crystal Tower raid (the 2nd part) today. They were healer and kept moving in and out of the platform for unknown reason. People from party A had to beg for my team to not move. I was dragoon and we had enough 4 range players but yeah the healer, sage, was acting cray cray. In the end I ran to stand on the platform and I was this close to call out the sage but it was early morning for me to even have the energy for drama. My party tank left after that fight. Figured they didn't want to tolerate any potential future wipe anymore
2 of those you mentioned are wasted mitigation on tankbusters though. Its fine to do at the start of the fight cuz bosses usually take a bit over 2min but dont waste your long cd's on tankbusters in dungeons, trashpacks hit a million times harder than any tankbuster in a dungeon ever could
Poster has two jobs at max, no tanks, not done any content outside of story and rouls and thinks they have a god given right to harrass people over how they play combat roles. Oh yeah it’s everyone else that’s the problem…. Sure.
Had a mentor tank die from a trash pack. Mentor healer refused to res because of the weakness debuff. Tank refused to respawn because he didn't want to run. This lasted several minutes. I just left, would rather take the 30 minute penalty than deal with children for the rest of the dungeon. Stay classy, mentors.
I remember a “mentor” popped every cooldown for the first mob in a dungeon. (they definitely didn’t need too the whaler was healing them) and then complained to the healer for not healing them enough for the next 2 mobs
Had a mentor tank in my expert roulette the other day. He didn't sprint at all and when I told him "You know you have sprint, right?" he started RP walking between pulls.
I absolutely hate that this happened to you. I worked my ass off to get Mentor status because of people like this. Not all of us are like them and I hope to show people that in time. While no one is perfect, I feel like the ease of access to becoming a mentor is too much. Honestly, I feel like there should be a review system in place where every 6 months or something like that, if you have had action taken against your account or you don't get a certain number of comms, you should lose your status. We had to work to get it, we should have to work to keep it.
That just encourages commendation farming even more. Doesn't mean the person will actually be a good mentor, just means they wanna keep their Burger King crown.
Definitely do not tie it to x coms in a small amount of time. T and H mains will be fine in that scenario, the D mains will absolutely get fucked over by it. I can't count the number of times I've done something like "Handle the mechs in A9 on NIN" or "raise the entire team at least once each as a SMN" or other such "Above and beyond" things and gotten 0. Conversely there have been times where I got 7 as offtank who did little more than shot MT with Heart/Aurora on tankbusters. Some sort of verification system, sure. But tied to coms? Definitely not.
A mentor crown is basically like a medical tag. It lets other people know that you require 'special' attention and have high sodium levels in your blood.
As someone who's a trade mentor and is working on battle mentor as well it is a genuine SHOCK how easy it is to get mentor in this game and the lack of quality control on shit personalities is absurd.
I've only been playing since May and I've already developed the instinct to be filled with absolute dread when I see that crown show up in the party after DF pops.

The reputation mentors get makes me wanna turn off my mentor crown. Because it causes people to bully mentors even when they weren't wrong in something. I remember our alliance was dead because of them struggling with mechanics, I was on healer and moved in a little to healer LB3. But then the tank buster came on and the tank sniped me with it. He could've moved an inch away from me to avoid me but didn't, but yet it was somehow my fault because "I stood in the way". Remember you cannot move when casting LB3.
I went like 6 years ignoring being a mentor but I decided to finally suffer the walk of 2000 mentor roulettes. I've gotten people thordan ex clears, a nidhogg clear (thank god for echo), and some rathalos clears (this one isnt that bad tbh). You... you get to see things. Like a new BLM in Dohn Mheg who went 2 pulls of the second boss (yes, there was more than one) before he spoke up and asked why he couldn't target the tethers (he avoided all 4 between the pulls). Now 100% the mentor requirements are a joke. You can teach people how to play this game with or without this cursed burger king crown. I was just that bored that I wanted something to do. I had a mentor who defended a tank that did the "you pull you tank" nonsense, with me as a healer on my sprout alt even! That's the kind of people that genuinely need to lose the crown.
To be honest i believe the tank set the pace of the group, so if you start to speedrun alone the dungeon you deserve it, but a good tank shouldnt care because show must go on
I also did the 2,000 mentor roulettes. Then I was unable to play for about a year, and my mentor status fell off. I don't think I care enough to get it back lmao NN is a cesspit. Most people aren't open to help anyways, and just respond with anger. And the community is so fucking "toxically casual." I had the GALL to say (On Reddit) you should know common mentor roulette instances (including the extremes!) if you're going to queue mentor roulette, and was met with backlash.
Mentors are strange, ngl. One time I got one during praetorium that just took and left almost near the end of the last fight. First he got mad cause I kept aggroing the bosses (as a main tank I tend to do that lot without noticing when playing dps), and just let us wipe to Nero "because dps apparently wants to tank", then he just ragequitted during Gaius.
@@number1fen Eh, i'm more of a "If a dps pulls it it's free mitigation" person, I can understand why it can bother people tho since it can fuck up with a tank's pacing, that's why usually when playing dps or healer I try to avoid doing that, but legit getting THAT salty to the point of quitting when almost done in a 40 min instance is something I fail to understand, especially if you consider that the ads in the praetorium are basically a joke and for the bosses if someone pulls a bit too early you can always just voke it back.

If you are constantly doing it then it is not a "mistake" and you're just being a ass. Some people generally get unhappy when you treat them like they are your servants... It isn't "free mitigation" that damage is going out on someone that is not suited to survivability and if the healer doesn't heal them then they are likely dead on the next raidwide. I said that I do that without noticing because I am a TANK MAIN, so it's hard ingrained in my mind to pull forward because I usually don't play other roles if not for dungeons and mount farming, and it's kinda hard to work against muscle memory (example: after p8s I now run forward every time I start a bossfight because of the AAs in part 2), that goes without saying that as a TANK MAIN I also know how to fix it in case it happens so that it doesn't bother anyone else and doesn't happen again, at least in that instance. Do I even have to explain that the first part I wrote was about ME, PERSONALLY, WHEN PLAYING AS A TANK? So I'll explain it: I, ME, MYSELF, don't really mind if it happens, and I 100% consider it less toxic than letting someone die and slow down an instance because someone has to be an entitled asshole, I just take whatever got astray and keep playing, if in a dungeon, since I'm still going in the direction of the enemies, and even if they are far I do have all the tools to take them, the problem is also basically non existent in end game content, since when that happens that means you just reset.

I had a mentor quit the party on this exact dungeon after sage said that they weren't too good at saging. Got hooked up with a cooler mentor later after I asked if I could tank a bit slower to make it more accomodating to sage.
Completely different subject, but god I hate that bridge in that fight. I have to get off the couch and sit on the table so I can see the thing and get a clear image of me still falling off of it. Did that dungeon a few times the other day since it’s been in the roulettes and the farthest I made it was to the very end, got excited and fell off :(

If you automatically enter every encounter presuming they are a shitter, and proceed to treat them like one, you will not get people who are actually helpful. A vast majority of burger king crown holders are just that, burger kings. But there are some mentors who help, and genuinely do want to do so. I've been saying it since heavensward but they need to change the mentor icon to a watering can because the crown just attracts vain dickheads.

As someone who plays on Diabolos for my main character, yeah that server is a different breed of dumb whether its market prices or in this case the mentor. But thankfully the people I play with all share a brain cell and run content together and just act completely dumb
am mentor myself and I do my best to know my shit and am never afraid to ask for explanations/help, crown only means account has a certain number of commendations and cleared a certain number of dungeons, some get their 1500 comms within the 1000 dungeons they need, others get them within 10,000 dungeons. Don't look like he's even using mit lol.
I'd excuse running the first buster (not all the way out though) because some busters later on do create a cone/like/circle aoe on the tank and you can't be expected to remember every single one of them, but surely they would have remembered that it's not an aoe after the first one/most that are like that are marked in this kind of content, I don't really have any excuses for him after that

reminds me of the time me and a friend had a BK crown tank who wall in the 51 dungeon for HW not only was there no mitigations. *but they also kept cancelling the regen effect the whm was putting on them*
The distress this shit causes me is tangible, when I just want to use my mentor crown to help indicate that I'm giving advice to try and genuinely be helpful, and not berate anyone u_u Though lord knows there are instances the berating has come out. Like this time I had a healer who refused to heal the tank, because the tank god mad....when they healer pulled for no reason and refused to explain why. I was 100% sure it was intentional too: A. Because they said it (dumbass made it easy to file a report) and B. Because they were able to keep my dps-ass alive through pulls when I had all the aggro. Sounds like the healer thought the tank was going too slow and didn't just say, "Hey, I can handle it, go big." When the tank got mad the healer decided to punish the tank . I level Ninja at the moment and the worst thing in the world is a tank that keeps moving the target. I literally scream at my screen. That being said… I am a mentor myself and can’t do the last thing for sh*t. I always have to do it very slowly or else I‘ll fall down.
i never give commendations to "mentors" either :P if i'm in a party with 3 i just leave, like in this video. i swear, the novice network is 99% mentors seeking attention and 1% newbies asking questions that get drowned out by the mentors constant nonsense. there was one mentor who was online every single time i logged in, and you'd only see him trolling the newbies and being rude... then there were some mentors talking about ERP in the novice network. i'm sure there are actual mentors out there wearing the crown, but i've certainly never encountered one in nearly 10 years of playing. anytime i see the mentor crown i just see a symbol that says "i love attenti-GIVE ME ATTENTION!!!"

If you do this dungeon with trusts, there's an interactions where ryne walks incredibly tepidly and slow, and urianger rescues her at the last second.

Most classes can tank a pack of enemies, it will just require the healer to heal more than with a tank. Obviously you can't wall to wall pull, but it's better than waiting around for them. Had an alliance raid where out tank didn't have stance on, so for any fight that required each alliance to fight their own mob, I was the one tanking it as a Reaper and I survived through multiple tank busters due to my own shield and my healers keeping me alive.
Literally had a tank get annoyed in Antitower because our SAM pulled the first 3 enemies (there's a wall right after them), so he turned off stance and stood around typing the whole time. We just kept going through the dungeon and then someone put up a vote kick right before the boss.

Played FF14 for only two months, I realized that mentors are either so helpful that it overloads my brain with way too much information or just completely inept. I GROANED every time I saw a crown icon.
Bunch of mentors just want to crown just for show. A lot of times they don’t even bother helping or teach mechanics on new players, like the extreme trials, they rage quit in the middle of it. What’s the point having mentors system if they are unwilling to have any patience or teach sprouts any mechanics in new dungeons. Although at least your mentors that you team up are helpful on overloads you with informations to help new players compare on having hot headed ones that insults and leaves with too much pride on themselves. Having mentor system is just useless now other than for show

It's unfortunate that they put prizes behind becoming a mentor. There should be no crown, no mount, no nothing. It should just be the people who want to help other people. That'd go a long way toward filtering a lot of the baddies out.
I was healing this level 85 war in a dungeon. The dude was doing small pulls and even then refused to use Bloodwhetting. I asked him to do larger pulls and use bloodwhetting. He ignored me, and then called me bad right before he left.

The fact he doesn't do large pulls at that level offends me. My general rule as a tank is that once I reach 10k+ health, I do large pulls, but not too large to avoid possible death. Essentially, I go bigger and bigger as my health pool gets bigger

yesterday the MT in a raid kept spinning the boss nonstep, he actually managed to get me killed as a ranged job. I was going to ask him to not spin the boss, but he was a king of burgers, so i prefered to keep tanking the floor. went to make a coffee instead, it was nice.

Kindest mentor I've ever seen.
Had a Scholar healer who bought a skip sporting the Endwalker title. Gear was all white with a bit of green, way underlevelled for the content (levelling roulette). Ran headfirst into the first pack of mobs that everyone else was running around to skip. Ok, no problem. I was tanking so I popped sprint, backtracked to grab them, then carried on with the pull. Nothing too crazy. Didn't get healed while I popped extra mitigation though the healer was in range, so I died, but got a swiftcasted rez (good).
First pull dies. Guy asks for everyone to stop so he can set up a macro. Ok, we wait 2 minutes and the rest of us have some light emote banter. I'm curious and ask what the macro is for. "STOP RUNNING AWAY SO I CAN HEAL YOU" "there." "when I figure out how to make it heal, it will also heal".
I'm just stunned and said I wasn't sure what to say. Worst encounter I'd had in the game thus far. Guy must've kept stopping to try to hardcast heals in the middle of a sprint pull, without popping sprint either. Then gets mad that the tank is... pulling. Am I missing something? Honestly I was tempted to just leave, but that would've inconvenienced everyone else.
Dps replies "bruh". Then they start aggroing the next pack to nudge us to move on. Rest of the dungeon, healer just spammed Physick on me (didn't use the other healing spells for that level) and didn't dps. I'll be damned. Left a real sour taste in my mouth that I can't get out of my mind.

Had an expert dungeon and the tank NOT ONCE mitigated ANYTHING! They’d pull big…No mits nothing. Tank buster? Nope. Was so miserable I even started begging the player to mit. Nope. Nothing. No response nothing. I nearly stopped healing but I healed for my dps who had better places to be too :x but If I had my way I wouldve let him die over and over again until he mit.

Had that situation in LotA. One lala tank was intentionally grabbing the Iron Giant and making him destroy the rocks so the Behemoth meteors would keep wiping the raid. Only got past that because of a lucky healer res that saved my party.
This reminded me I had a Tank in a Yanxia fight who RP walked on every boss and wall. It got to the point I intentionally aggro'd the second boss and they stopped doing it since they realized we weren't one of those teams that would wait.

I met a mentor in Crystal Tower raid (the 2nd part) today. They were healer and kept moving in and out of the platform for unknown reason. People from party A had to beg for my team to not move. I was dragoon and we had enough 4 range players but yeah the healer, sage, was acting cray cray. In the end I ran to stand on the platform and I was this close to call out the sage but it was early morning for me to even have the energy for drama. My party tank left after that fight. Figured they didn't want to tolerate any potential future wipe anymore
The fact hes not popping ramparts, intuition, at least reprisal on tankbusters is giving me an aneurysm 💀
2 of those you mentioned are wasted mitigation on tankbusters though. Its fine to do at the start of the fight cuz bosses usually take a bit over 2min but dont waste your long cd's on tankbusters in dungeons, trashpacks hit a million times harder than any tankbuster in a dungeon ever could

Had a mentor tank die from a trash pack. Mentor healer refused to res because of the weakness debuff. Tank refused to respawn because he didn't want to run. This lasted several minutes. I just left, would rather take the 30 minute penalty than deal with children for the rest of the dungeon.

I remember a “mentor” popped every cooldown for the first mob in a dungeon. (they definitely didn’t need too the whaler was healing them) and then complained to the healer for not healing them enough for the next 2 mobs

I absolutely hate that this happened to you. I worked my ass off to get Mentor status because of people like this. Not all of us are like them and I hope to show people that in time. While no one is perfect, I feel like the ease of access to becoming a mentor is too much. Honestly, I feel like there should be a review system in place where every 6 months or something like that, if you have had action taken against your account or you don't get a certain number of comms, you should lose your status. We had to work to get it, we should have to work to keep it.
That just encourages commendation farming even more. Doesn't mean the person will actually be a good mentor, just means they wanna keep their Burger King crown.

Definitely do not tie it to x coms in a small amount of time. T and H mains will be fine in that scenario, the D mains will absolutely get fucked over by it. I can't count the number of times I've done something like "Handle the mechs in A9 on NIN" or "raise the entire team at least once each as a SMN" or other such "Above and beyond" things and gotten 0. Conversely there have been times where I got 7 as offtank who did little more than shot MT with Heart/Aurora on tankbusters.
Some sort of verification system, sure. But tied to coms? Definitely not.
Guess this just reiterates once again that just because you *can* wear the crown doesnt mean you should.

A mentor crown is basically like a medical tag. It lets other people know that you require 'special' attention and have high sodium levels in your blood.

As a mentor that mains dark knight, can confirm, I trust sprout healers more than other mentors.
The reputation mentors get makes me wanna turn off my mentor crown. Because it causes people to bully mentors even when they weren't wrong in something. I remember our alliance was dead because of them struggling with mechanics, I was on healer and moved in a little to healer LB3. But then the tank buster came on and the tank sniped me with it. He could've moved an inch away from me to avoid me but didn't, but yet it was somehow my fault because "I stood in the way". Remember you cannot move when casting LB3.
I went like 6 years ignoring being a mentor but I decided to finally suffer the walk of 2000 mentor roulettes. I've gotten people thordan ex clears, a nidhogg clear (thank god for echo), and some rathalos clears (this one isnt that bad tbh).
You... you get to see things. Like a new BLM in Dohn Mheg who went 2 pulls of the second boss (yes, there was more than one) before he spoke up and asked why he couldn't target the tethers (he avoided all 4 between the pulls).
Now 100% the mentor requirements are a joke. You can teach people how to play this game with or without this cursed burger king crown. I was just that bored that I wanted something to do. I had a mentor who defended a tank that did the "you pull you tank" nonsense, with me as a healer on my sprout alt even! That's the kind of people that genuinely need to lose the crown.
To be honest i believe the tank set the pace of the group, so if you start to speedrun alone the dungeon you deserve it, but a good tank shouldnt care because show must go on

One time I got one during praetorium that just took and left almost near the end of the last fight. First he got mad cause I kept aggroing the bosses (as a main tank I tend to do that lot without noticing when playing dps), and just let us wipe to Nero "because dps apparently wants to tank", then he just ragequitted during Gaius.

It isn't "free mitigation" that damage is going out on someone that is not suited to survivability and if the healer doesn't heal them then they are likely dead on the next raidwide. So sure expect half the group to clean up your mess which is even better. It doesn't matter the difficulty or anything to be fair, it is a matter of courtesy to the people you are playing with. You clearly have no regard for them and it shows.

I said that I do that without noticing because I am a TANK MAIN, so it's hard ingrained in my mind to pull forward because I usually don't play other roles if not for dungeons and mount farming, and it's kinda hard to work against muscle memory (example: after p8s I now run forward every time I start a bossfight because of the AAs in part 2), that goes without saying that as a TANK MAIN I also know how to fix it in case it happens so that it doesn't bother anyone else and doesn't happen again, at least in that instance. Do I even have to explain that the first part I wrote was about ME, PERSONALLY, WHEN PLAYING AS A TANK? So I'll explain it: I, ME, MYSELF, don't really mind if it happens, and I 100% consider it less toxic than letting someone die and slow down an instance because someone has to be an entitled asshole, I just take whatever got astray and keep playing, if in a dungeon, since I'm still going in the direction of the enemies, and even if they are far I do have all the tools to take them, the problem is also basically non existent in end game content, since when that happens that means you just reset.

I had a mentor quit the party on this exact dungeon after sage said that they weren't too good at saging. Got hooked up with a cooler mentor later after I asked if I could tank a bit slower to make it more accomodating to sage.

A friendly reminder that not all mentors are bad at the game. They may be a minority amongst mentors, but some of us do genually want to help and are able to do so.

If you automatically enter every encounter presuming they are a shitter, and proceed to treat them like one, you will not get people who are actually helpful. A vast majority of burger king crown holders are just that, burger kings. But there are some mentors who help, and genuinely do want to do so. I've been saying it since heavensward but they need to change the mentor icon to a watering can because the crown just attracts vain dickheads.

As someone who plays on Diabolos for my main character, yeah that server is a different breed of dumb whether its market prices or in this case the mentor. But thankfully the people I play with all share a brain cell and run content together and just act completely dumb
am mentor myself and I do my best to know my shit and am never afraid to ask for explanations/help, crown only means account has a certain number of commendations and cleared a certain number of dungeons, some get their 1500 comms within the 1000 dungeons they need, others get them within 10,000 dungeons.

I'd excuse running the first buster (not all the way out though) because some busters later on do create a cone/like/circle aoe on the tank and you can't be expected to remember every single one of them, but surely they would have remembered that it's not an aoe after the first one/most that are like that are marked in this kind of content, I don't really have any excuses for him after that

Though lord knows there are instances the berating has come out. Like this time I had a healer who refused to heal the tank, because the tank god mad....when they healer pulled for no reason and refused to explain why. I was 100% sure it was intentional too: A. Because they said it (dumbass made it easy to file a report) and B. Because they were able to keep my dps-ass alive through pulls when I had all the aggro. I told them refusal to heal was against TOS, and they mocked me.

Sounds like the healer thought the tank was going too slow and didn't just say, "Hey, I can handle it, go big." When the tank got mad the healer decided to punish the tank .
Healer was a dick but I legit wonder if that tank was a, "I'm the tank I this am party lead." Mindset, because that could have gotten gross fast
@@CLB872 healers and tanks can both get pretty smoothbrained about this kind of thing. At the end of the day we can argue all about whether it's okay to force big pulls or not, but regardless of your stance on it, ffs it's not hard to just say something in chat and communicate instead of power tripping like a jackass. healers and tanks both have some of the biggest egos i've seen shoved all the way up their asses. Disclaimer, I'm a healer & tank main. lmao
@@CLB872 no, no, the tank was doing absolutely fine. They had finished the pull, it was a full pull, and the healer rescued them as they had all the mobs. My friend used to rescue me to do bigger pulls when I was still fresh and learning, so I'd have recognized that, lol.

That being said… I am a mentor myself and can’t do the last thing for sh*t. I always have to do it very slowly or else I‘ll fall down.

i never give commendations to "mentors" either :P if i'm in a party with 3 i just leave, like in this video. i swear, the novice network is 99% mentors seeking attention and 1% newbies asking questions that get drowned out by the mentors constant nonsense. there was one mentor who was online every single time i logged in, and you'd only see him trolling the newbies and being rude... then there were some mentors talking about ERP in the novice network. i'm sure there are actual mentors out there wearing the crown, but i've certainly never encountered one in nearly 10 years of playing. anytime i see the mentor crown i just see a symbol that says "i love attenti-GIVE ME ATTENTION!!!"
