Jason Isaacs as Magneto is actually perfect.

@@charleslee8313 Deadpool making those kind of jokes is not creative, or funny, but boring. Even in Deadpool 2, the Thanos line felt overplayed, as they already joked around in interviews about that. Honestly leaked test footage of Deadpool has more Deadpool vibes than both of his movies. There is too much uncreative humour there that belongs to typical comedies. Deadpool should be free of bounds of only referencing popculture. Its not fun. The actual Deadpool should interact with characters more. The best example was first scene with Deadpool, Collossus and Negasonic on the road. That was Deadpool. For the rest movie he is ironically very cliche one-line quippy character.

Nah not really he didn't he's perfect for the role like he's bad-looking like he said he'll give a good performance as a villain because the toad will probably be mainly CGI or makeup. I don't think he was being mean when he choose him.
No mention of Rebecca romijn being amazing as mystique ? She did a wonderful job.
Not gonna lie. Rebecca Romjin was half the reason I loved the first X-men movies.

I was actually for him to say something about her performance! She was amazing imho and set the bar so incredibly high

So refreshing to see someone who is actually Jewish for Magneto, it's so integral to his character (the bar is on the ground but still.) Isaacs kind of reminds me of McKellan, too. Excellent choice.

exactly! why can't she wear clothes like she does in the comics. It was one of the reasons I came here to post -- clothes for Mystique and no scales.
I agree. Rebecca Romajin Stamos was a sex symbol, and so is Jennifer Lawrence. They only use the scales to cover their nipples. The character never had scales, and had clothing.

Why, just because he didn't cast an Australian? If they only cast actors that were the same nationality as the characters you wouldn't have Heath Ledger's Joker, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, or Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Actually it is hard to forget it. Just because of the accent, the character has too much drama to bring to a minor character. Accents get in the way sometimes. Wolverine was once depicted as being Australian. Anyone who has seen that cartoon version just rolled their eyes. The accent has a lot of over-used coin phrases. Use of those would just detract from seriousness of how great the character could be depicted as a madman who just wants to see the world burn. I'm not saying don't use the Australian origin. I'd just want them to be careful and not make it campy. I want some serious villains.
I’ve said for a while that they can easily keep Magneto’s backstory and introduce him on the younger-ish (by younger, I mean not old and grey) side by just adding to his power set that he ages a little slower than humans usually do.
I LOVE Moises Arias as Toad! His character in The Kings of Summer was hilarious!
I have trouble not seeing him as that kid from Hannah Montana but I think he'd fit this role well
He could work he might be too short thought if you're going to have 6 foot actors playing the x men he's going to look really small he's 5'1 I would think a 5'6 foot actor would be ideal.
You should have done Avalanche too! He is Pyro's actual best friend.

Who would you cast as Avalanche ?
He also casted Sabertooth who was only very briefly on the team in the comics. Even then it was well after the Clairmont years and he was only on as a hired mercenary. The classic X-Men years are the original run from '63 to '75 and Clairmont's run from '75 to '91. Sabertooth was still jobbing to Iron Fist up until the mid 80's and wasn't even an X-Men villain until the Mutant Massacre storyline in '86. When he was introduced he was part of Mr. Sinister's Maurauders and not the Brotherhood.

@@heckandahalf1634 , it would be refreshing but we can't deny the body of work of Charlize Theron. From Aeon Flux to Atomic Blonde. I think being true to her character, Mystique wouldn't want to appear younger when she's being herself. I see her as someone who's very comfortable with her own skin and age. She's an anti conformist. That's just how I personally perceive her.

She is who immediately came to mind when I thought of Mystique and her being older would pair better with the mother-daughter relationship she has with Rogue, I'm just saying that this fan cast doesn't disappoint me because I would actually enjoy to see it. But Charlize Theron is perfect, she could really capture the depth that Mystique has that Jennifer Lawrence didn't, which to be fair, I think is more due to the script and Rebecca Romijn was a great introduction to Mystique but if they had Theron they could really flesh out her character as an adult

Jennifer Lawrence didn't like playing Mystique and kind of phones it in the last 2 films. Which bugs me because when Rebecca had the role had to do many many hours daily of makeup so her experience was worse but she seemed much happier to play the part.
I think I read somewhere that Mystique being depowered in The Last Stand was because she got tired of the makeup. Can't remember where though. At the very least, I think MCU Mystique should just be blue. While the makeup was more detailed in most of the X-Men movies, Dark Phoenix's makeup was more comic-accurate, even though it's wildly inconsistent with previous movies. They really just need Mystique to have blue skin at the least.
@@chinclucker i agree, the dark phoenix makeup for mystique was so good, i wish she had looked like that for all of them. It actually looked like blue skin, rather than a rubber glove encasing her body
Yeah, Jlaw publically said she hated the makeup. As we are all nerds we all probably know that Mystique didn't start prancing around nude until singer came along.
Honestly Jlaw could only play the role as it was written and how the directors/writers/producers wanted it played. Yeah she phoned it in the last two x-men movies but she's hardly the worst thing about either of those films. Dark Phoenix is actually close to watchable if you ask me. Watch american hustle, she can do the role.
It's all academic because she doesn't want to play the role again, and last I heard she was in talks with waititi to appear in the next thor movie. I don't know who was the original source of that news but wegotthiscovered is the loudest source on it anyway.
Nigel Chinclucker I think it was because the production was chaotic as hell. I remembering reading that principal photography didn’t start until months before the release date, and by that time most actors had other commitments. That’s why you don’t see a lot of Cyclops, James Marsden was filming Superman around the same time. And I think it was the same for Rebecca Romijn.

@@Ironlantern723 No, the comics keep having something done to de-age him via technology or aliens.
I have always scratched my head at the shenanigans they go through to de-age him in the comics when they could just say "the Earth's magnetic field keeps him young" or some such. Such an easy fix to the age issue to just say his mutant power keeps him youthful.
Even easier: Erik/Magneto is dead, and his clone, Joseph, is a revived version of him, gaining his memories as he grows, to the point he believes himself Magneto. Its happened before

It was because they already had her on cast (for 3 movies) before she got 'hunger games' famous.
Once you have a super A lister though, you have to make everything about them.

It’s seems to me like you’re only describing your dislike of the actor whom is following a script and portraying what the director wanted to see. Nothing about my comment expressed any dislike for the character or the actor. It was a clear explanation of why they did what they did with the character, ie make her the leader of the xmen.

Actually in the comics, Magneto was constantly de-aged through different means. So you can have anyone, at a young age to play the character and use whatever excuse you want for this appearance.
This is some solid casting. I could definitely see these guys in the MCU
Buzz from home alone as blob is a stroke of genius. He is perfect for the role and you get some nostalgia points for us 90s kids

Off-topic but if there is one thing I would change about Magneto, I would make his cape a metal slab. That he subconsciously makes flutter to give the illusion that it's fabric. So that when someone like Beast tries to punch him...SURPRISE METAL SPIKE.

Christoph Waltz was actually almost my cast, but he's 5'7 and doesn't have a commanding enough body type

Jeremy irons would be my fan cast as Magneto also. I think he can convey a quiet rage that bubbles beneath without looking wholly evil.

If you think there’s going to be a problem for Magento’s Timeline, Just set the X-Men in the late 70’s and the Fantastic 4 in the 60’s.
Then they would have to retcon them, add them to the history of the mcu world. Did SHIELD know about them or did they cover their identity and were the FF4 stuck in space?

@@nickkurtz512 i heard somone say possible that Professor X blocked the existence of mutants from everyones mind, which maybe could work, but then that would mean that xmen never had world ending conflicts to deal with or Magento. They could possibly tie in Captain America/Logan to ww2 with Magento, if they go that route. Specially with Scarlet Witch around. As far as FF4 they keep mentioning the quantum relam having a city within it..idk how that would work or maybe they could literally be a family lost in space, like the old show.
Not necessarily, in the mcu hydra exists so its completely plausible that a young magneto never escaped hydras clutches until atleast the 80's and was probably expiremented on the same way Bucky Barnes was.
Just Have Magneto in a SHIELD stasis prison something and have Mistique and Sabertooth bust him out. Timeline issue fixed

Years ago, I thought of casting Charles Dance instead of McKellan. I thought Sir Ian too frail-looking. Dance's frame seemed more impressive to me.
I genuinely love these castings as they aren't like most which just pick all super popular actors, and there is actual consideration to it. Isaacs would be great, didn't see it coming but is perfect
Vigo Mortensen as Magneto, would be great to see Mortensen playing a villain, but also he could be really relatable and he could do the whole sympathetic character role perfectly. I see Isaac's as a much better Sinister. Also got to say fantastic choice for Sabretooth and Toad!

In the Series ‘X-Men Evolution’ they give a great explanation for Magneto’s age and backstory
An explanation similar to evolution could be worked into the MCU perhaps Nazi scientists or Hydra experimented on him perhaps using Redskull’s blood to give him prolonged life, youth and strength
I was just thinking that they could give him slowed aging like Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Mystique, but I like your solution better. Anything to keep his amazing origin intact.

This casting is great - I’d kind of pictured Jason Isaacs as maybe Mr Sinister, but he works really well as Magneto too.
What would you think of Jon Hamm for Sebastian Shaw? He has the look and the range for it, and he’s probably about the right age? (I also think Hamm could work for Sinister - he can do intelligent, menacing, urbanely evil and batshit as the role requires) ☺️
I love all your casting as always. It would never happen because she's so well-known as Harley Quinn, but I always thought Margot Robbie would be an amazing Mystique.

Cameron Monaghan would be wasted in that small of a role. He should maybe be used in a bigger villain or even hero.

Sarah Finn freakin gave us Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Tom Holland's Spider-man, both of which are underrated actors before their MCU roles. MCU can easily find more underrated actors or those new to the industry that is fit for the role.

Ryan Stewart firstly, I didn’t say that’s who they should cast or will. I’m stating she would be a great Emma Frost if given the chance to, as she has the presence, beauty and sophistication to play the character. 10 years ago she would have been perfect, yes. But tbh, I’d still love it if she was cast as Emma, even if she’s deemed “too old”.

I think the best thing to do for Magneto is just make him immortal or something like that.
I think adapting him to have another backstory would be a great disservice to the character.
I’m all for different adaptations but that’s like not having Batman’s parents killed.
You don't need to do that because the same reason Bucky Barnes is so young could be the same reason Magneto is young considering their lose proximity with one another

@@skydreamer4225 or even he ages slower because his powers were further enhanced by the tesseract or maybe hydra injected him with a variation of the supersoldier serum so hydra could use Max Eisenhardt as a wintersoldier that can do that do things other assasins could not.
Not a great comparison. Bruce's parents could be killed at any time in history, and he would become Batman because of it. And making characters immortal just to avoid having to change their story isn't a great way to go about it.
@Ryan Stewart well Charles age isn't tied to a historical event so his exact age doesn't really matter and the whole thing with Charles and Max being old friends was only done for the movies because they only met once in Egypt before Charles became professor X and before Max Eisenhardt became Magneto. Also , Max Eisenhardt has a very Jewish name and has two very Caucasian children already in the mcu. Plus, removing him from the holocaust just gets rid of the tragic irony that follows his character.

I’ve been rewatching a show called “the adventures of Merlin” on Netflix, it was on BBC one in 2008-2012 and it would be really cool to recast that.
Aren't Destiny and Mastermind also part of the Brotherhood though? They are a bit "unknown", perhaps, as (at least to my knowledge) they haven't appeared in any of the X-Men movies.
He also didn't cast Avalanche. To me, the classic Brotherhood trio are Pyro, Blob and Avalanche.

I would cast a person of color for the role of Mystique . I loved Golshifteh Farahani in Extraction on Netflix. She does not do a lot until act three but the last scene she was in screamed Mystique and her hair styled help. Plus I want to see comic book Mystique look not the blue scales Mystique.
I would scream in the theater if they had mystique in her white dress and skull belt.
J Law is the worst portrayal of Mystique. Mystique is by no means a leader of the xmen or a goody two shoes. She's not selfless and whiny. And weak like she's portrayed to be there man she's awful

I see Jennifer Lawrence's performance the same way I see Hugh Jackman's. They're well cast for the role as written, but the role isn't written correctly. Movie Wolverine doesn't feel like Wolverine and movie Mystique (Jennifer's version anyway) doesn't feel like Mystique. It's a vision/writing problem.

Idris Elba as Magneto, who lived through the civil rights era or maybe apartheid.
Idris Elba breaks the rules because he's already in the MCU, but I actually think making Mags black is a really good idea because it gives him a background of coming from a different kind of oppression, which is super important to his character. And uh, "holocaust survivor" just doesn't make sense for a character doing things in the 2020s.

These cast choices are very good. Well thought out. Viggo Mortensen was my choice for Magneto but I like Jason Isaacs as well
As always I really enjoy your take on the look and feel of these characters and I really like your Toad and Blob. The one I think is off is the missed opportunity to cast an actual Australian for Pyro I really would like to see this character in his native roots and I also think Id like to see Mystique older and more mature sensual/seductive.
First off: Magneto's backstory on Earth-27M would be a great choice for the MCU.
Second: I envision Charles Dance as Magneto.

One of these side brands is Earth-27M, a branch reality that focuses on the Marvel Universe. In Earth-27, Magneto was born in the 50's, with his parents telling him about the cruelty they had to go through.
