Thank you so much. Safe travels in November. See you soon. November 3rd is Cuenca's Independence day. It's a week long and is so much fun. Fireworks, vendors, street food...such a huge celebration. Hope you will be here for it.
Hello, in the Ecuadorian highlands most older people dress in suits to keep warm from the cold, younger people up to 50 years old dress more casually with leather coats. Excellent video guys. take care.
Hello! thank you for sharing. We love hearing about the Ecuadorian culture. Thanks for the great compliment and for watching, we appreciate it very much. Happy Holidays
You're the sort of people that Cuenca needs. F... what the rest of people say about your appeal!! We, the cuencanos, love you, guys. Welcome to our City!!
Thank you so very much! We are very honored by your support. This is one of the nicest comments ever. We love this city and the cuencanos! Thank you for welcoming us into your home. 😁❤❤❤
Thank you so much. We missed Cuenca so much after we left our first exploratory trip. So we totally understand. Hopefully you'll get to visit again. Thank you for watching our videos, we appreciate it very much. Have a wonderful day.
The coffee at Cafe de la Sucre is one of my favorites. I've only had the coffee there, but I'm sure the food is just as good. Next time you are in Cuenca, run to get that cake. It is so good. You will not be disappointed at all. Thank you for watching and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Such a great one!! Loved the intro and the end clip!! 😂😂😂 I kept on cracking up non stop! 👍👏👏👏👏 the videos keep on getting better and better! Big hugs to you both from us 3 down here! 😊
Thank you Rene for all the compliments. I think I laughed harder on this one than the chocolate one. Missing the 3 of you and can't wait to see you again. Sandy
Loved, loved, loved this video! Didn’t see the name of the restaurant….looked like kolo…correct? Leche, the dog, was so cute! Really enjoy your channel…very creative and unique.
The restaurant is A Punto de Nieve. That little french bulldog was the cutest puppy... and very well behaved. Thank you for watching our channel, we appreciate it very much. Have a great day and Happy Holidays.
@@ericandsandyWe appreciate y'all's videos. We look forward to visiting Cuenca soon. We wish we could have the opportunity to visit with y'all. We wish y'all all the best and hope you are enjoying your time back in the states.
Man, don't you own a tux? Well, at least you combed your hair!😆 I'm moving to Cuenca Dec 13th and that Cafe is on my list. I'll make sure to wear my best camiseta! Thanks for another great vid.
No tux yet, it's on my list though. We've been to that cafe several times. Mostly for coffee, that was the first time for food and it was amazing. Safe travels and thank you for watching. Happy Holidays
Great video! I suggest going for dinner or cocktails upstairs to Matilde it’s a gorgeous restaurant with the same old world charm with beautiful rooms. The house was converted into a restaurant it was the first house in Cuenca to have a modern bathroom with running water and toilet in Cuenca. There are many wonderful restaurants in the city of Cuenca. It’s good to know there are good tailors in Cuenca.
Thank you Marysol. We can't wait to try Matilde, it sounds beautiful. We absolutely love our tailor, he is wonderful and he really does have a great eye. Thank you so much for watching our video, we are glad you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful day and Happy Holidays.
@@ericandsandy We are working on our visas now and plan to be there next year. We would love to see a video comparing the different expat friendly neighborhoods with the pros and cons. No pressure 🤪😁
I live in San Clemente Ecuador! I'm 70 years old ! I was never a style person person in America! I'm not changing what I were to go with the trend! Yes most Ecuadorian do dress nice but I live in a beach Town!
Thank you! Yes there are several places at that location we plan to try. Eric checked out the cheese shop and loves all the options. Thank you for watching! Have a great one!
I’m really enjoying yours vids - very fun & informative. Thanks. I have considered retirement in Cuenca, but am single & don’t speak Spanish. Any thoughts about that? All the best to you both, Bob
Hi Bob, first.. thank you so very much for watching our videos. We have researched Ecuador for retirement for over 10 years. Finally got some time to go explore to see if we would truly like living there. We fell in love. We don't speak fluent Spanish..it's very little. We used Google translate in some instances. We have been using free spanish lessons like duolingo just to get the basics for conversation. It works pretty good. If you try speaking the language, even if it is the worst sounding (to you) The people are so welcoming and helpful it just makes you want to learn their language that much more. There are a lot of single expats that live in and all over Ecuador. I know about a walking tour that you learn Spanish as well. We met the nicest lady in the airport on our way back home one trip. She was in her late 70's and has been living in Quito for 15 years. I think she was from New York City. She couldn't stop gushing over how much she loved Quito, and that she would never leave because she loved it so much. She's single and it seemed as though she was thriving. I suggest that anyone that is thinking about moving to a different country, visit first. My opinion 1-2 weeks is a good first visit. Thanks again for watching Bob. Feel free to ask any other questions and have a fantastic day.
Dear Eric & Sandy, Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply - it is very reassuring:) I have decided to plan a trip for two weeks in February. That will give me some time to study Spanish and organize in a meaningful way. I expect that the speed people speak there will probably make most of the language difficult to get, but at least I can be polite and respectful by trying. If you are around during my visit, maybe I can take you out for coffee and chocolate! I'll keep you posted. You're the BEST!
It was A Punto de Nieve. I thought it was in the description but it's not...sorry. Their coffee is so good and the atmosphere is just delightful. You're going to love it.
Thank you. The information on food/street/restaurants is important information to me, so glad you are showing these places so when I get there, I know the hot spots. I was getting very full just watching you eat the many pastries!! The big Mercado trip was really great, I’ll be watching the one on fruit next-excitingly. Sandy, I am 63 should I bring more short sleeve shirts or long ones? I still get hot. While you were at the spa, is it ok not to do the sauna while my friends with me partake in it? I look forward to going to the spa however. I do not know exactly when I’ll be doing my exploratory trip. Where would you recommend staying for 2weeks? Thanks again.
You're so welcome. I would bring both short sleeve and lightweight long sleeve shirts. I'm getting some more long sleeve dry fit spf shirts. I hate putting sunscreen on all over and the lightweight long sleeve shirts are light enough not to overheat you. Bring a lightweight jacket too. It's nice to layer...it's very cool in the early morning and some evenings. Layering is always a plus here. Bring your favorite sunscreen...mine is a 70 spf. The UV here is strong. You want to wear it everyday you're out. Bring a black travel umbrella....it's good to always carry, just in case of rain or sun. On the spa question...you don't need to get on the box..I wasn't going to buy she said I could control the heat .. I had it on extremely low and off most of the time. I just liked all the floral and eucalyptus smell permeating in my skin. It was wonderful. There are some really nice boutique hotels on Calle Larga...which are on the river in El Centro...but when we came for visits we stayed in an airbnb just across the river from el centro in El Vergel. It was nice and quiet and the views from the apartment and the terrace were amazing. We have a video of it and the link to the airbnb is in the description. ruclips.net/video/-gSr8cFwj_U/видео.htmlsi=PPk_1Y7kusm-P7Xm
Hey Eric, I'm moving to Cuenca this month and was wondering should I just bring all of my clothing and then pair down once I'm in Cuenca? I'm a Florida boy who wears shorts, tshirts and flip flops during fall in Minnesota, but I'm realizing its more about the UV rays than anything. When I lived up north, I'd wear sleeveless undershirts but I'm guessing it won't get cold enough for that. Your thoughts?
In Cuenca they say you can experince four seasons in a day. I'm sure that doesn't help, lol. But yeah I would lean more towards bringing what you can and pairing down. Mainly because buying clothes in Ecuador can be expensive. A pair of Levis jeans are around $100 on average. You can find some good deals of course, but name brands can get pricey. Also you never really see the locals wearing shorts in Cuenca. Unless they're exercising or playing sports. Staying covered up from the UV is a must, it's no joke. Bring sunblock, it's very expensive in Cuenca. Having Florida roots myself, I'm sure you understand humidity. The thing about Cuenca is the temps are mainly in the 60's and 70's, and maybe a little chilly at night. But the humidity most of the time is very high. Like 80 to 100 percent. So for me it's comfortable to basically wear whatever I want. You don't need anything super heavy and you don't really need anything super light. Bring an umbrella. Great for the sun and rain. We always have one on us. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
Sorry, a bit of bait and switch in this video. Could have said in 5 minutes what took 20. And does it rain in Cuenca? What do you/the natives wear then?
Yes it rains in Cuenca, not every day. We use umbrellas and or lightweight rain coats when it does. Thanks for watching and your comment. Have a great day 😀
