This video is out of date for the 2024 Model Y The back pockets are totally different and I believe the wiring is different so the brakes do not work with this kit.
This is a very valid concern if you are using the Quick Connect as demonstrated in the video. We would suggest calling the manufacturer in case they have a possible production issue. In our tests we have found that the kit was working as designed.
@@ajajeal540 The manufacturer sent me a new 118831 replacement kit. I just installed it and the brake lights still do not work with this replacement kit. All other functions do work. I have an August build 2021 Model Y. Fortunately I purchased a Modulite ZCI kit which I'm about to install since I have everything already pulled apart. I would order both the 118831 kit and the Modulite ZCI kit and if the 118831 doesn't work return it and install the Modulite ZCI kit while you have everything opened up.
I've finished the install of the Modulite ZCI kit. Everything works. The Model Y is a 3 Wire System: The vehicle's turn, brake and tail light function are on separate wires. On my car the wires going into the back lamp harness are as follows. Black wire is Ground. The Yellow wire is parking. The Red wire is Turn. The Gray wire is Brake.
@@trailerhitches The kit - 118831- does not have sensing for the brake function on my August 2021 production Model Y. It only is wired to the Parking Light and the Turn Light. The STOP circuit is bypassed and not wired into the module.
I bought a light to check if it works. Running light works. Brake light doesn’t. And when I hit the right turn signal the light blinks. I think this is a bad kit.

This is because Tesla changed to a 3 wire system, the mode in this video won’t work for Model Ys with this, mine was made 05/21. Install the Ingenext wire kit. I don’t work for them, it was just the only solution that works.
Same issue. The brake wire on Model Y 2021 is on grey wire. The grey wire is not even connected to the harness. It will not work. This harness might work on older 2021 before the tail light design was changed.
@@paulm4176 it's more convenient. I added an aftermarket tow hitch to my long-range Model Y and it was a very annoying drive because the vehicle kept saying an object was too close to the back. Now my model Y performance came with the towing feature upgrade and it is plug-and-play. Yes, you can add the towing stuff afterward, but without the software upgrade it's very annoying.
You can always visit your closest U-Haul and they can help diagnose it for you. It could a few different things . It could be an error in the install or a just a bad kit. Best way to tell is to do some tests that they can help with.
@@ajajeal540 UHaul sent me a new kit but I haven’t put it in yet. They also said I could take it to a service center to have them look at it. Wiring is plug and play so I’m sure my unit is bad but they sent me the new one so I would bet that fixes it.
Installed the harness on model Y 2021 and everything works except stop lights. This is the same as many other reports in the comments. Has anyone been able to solve this issue without getting different type of harness?
This is not the way to do it. the harness already has dedicated connectos with dedicate power supply instead of trying to leach off the break lights. Doing it this way will cause alerts and an overvoltage alert in the service alerts. due to this condition, the vehicle will think it is malfunctioning so it won't let you use certain features like auto change lane if you have it.
This guy does GREAT videos...............
Glad you liked it!
The Ingenext trailer wire is sooooo much simpler and no battery lead required. Plugs directly to the factory coupler for the trailer wires .
Great vid brahs!
If only there was a 12v outlet in the rear cargo area you could Leach off.
What is the amperage of that cigarette lighter adapter?

The video clearly states 2021-2022. Sorry for the confusion but the quick connect part does not fit the 2023 or 2024. a universal kit must be used.
Beware. Brake lights didn't work on mine either.

Lol, so wholesome
Does the Power Wire 1 come with the kit? I can’t tell on the site.
Sorry for the late response, no the PWRWIRE1 does not come with the kit. This part is sold at all hitch installing U-Haul locations.

what about the trailer mode software upgrade?
You have to get the tesla hitch installed and they install trailer mode. If you do an aftermarket you will not get trailer mode.
What is the approach of this software? What would be improved?
@pit9820 Let's the vehicle know its towing and also let the driver monitor stuff like trailer electrical connection and change the power modes
So is it necessary to have it? Can I manually change settings?

Yes. I called Tekonsha, they sent me the programmable harness (the one where you connect magnets around the wires). It works just fine.

Are there any trailer wire kits that don't require you to run the wire up to the battery?
Not to our knowledge Larry - We are constantly looking for innovation though. If you do happen to run across a viable option please let us know.
