I totally agree with you. I really can't understand those countries that doesn't sing in their own language. When someone ask singers "Why do you hell sing in English?!?", they usually answer "Coz everyone can understand the meaning of lyrics"...like if they are singing something soooo eternal as Dante's "Divina Commedia" or some Shakespeare's or Pushkin's poems...and not the typical ordinary "tribute" to love (or friendship) as in 99% of songs. Brava, Elle :)
your reference about deep poetry and literature were great Gialla!.Since there is no camparison and music is to convey feeling ,mood and attitude.I grew up in Germany and even before I spoke English I loved foreign music.Still do ,because I felt it and it became art .Now most artist belive a sing -along is only worth remembering.

Again, I agree. I now speak 4 languages but, for example, I do not speak Deutsch. Can you imagine, when sometimes radio plays an old Falco's song, I like it and makes me curious anyway, although I understand only that he's talking about a Kommisar, nothing else :) I appreciate a lot that Italian singers who took part to ESC last 3 years, they performed in Italian (with the exception of Nina Zilli, who sang partly in English, and I really didn't understand why she did it). A Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian or Estonian who sings at ESC in English (especially if the song is a USA Whitney Houston's style), it's a nonsense. I think the song should be something connected to the "soul" of the own nation. If not the style...at least the language!

I'm not totally agree with you. Fo example, when France presented Les Fatals Picards, which is an engaged band with a lot irony in his lyrics, the fact that the lyrics couldn't be understand by all had been a really bad point for them ^^
But it's not like everyone in Europe could understand english lyrics, you got this point ^^

I agree that Nina Zilli is outstanding , she participated already and had also very powerful song (I think in 2012) that I loved so much.Listening "Rise Like A Phoenix" makes me feel not very comfortable for much reasons (but the singer has a great voice I agree), sorry.I can't say it is the best song, but other things can make "Rise Like a Phoenix" win, but I won't say anything about that."Same heart" is a song that is as good as this one, and yes, it has a lot potential."Children of the universe" and "Undo" aren't so interesting to me, but are good songs.

I hated this song when I first heard it, but now it became one of my favorite songs of the 2014 ESC. I'm so happy that Italy decided to return to ESC. Songs sung in Italian sound so amazing. Italian language in general is really beautiful.

This is probably the most modern pop-rock song that Italy's ever sent to Eurovision! They are usually known for their classical/traditional music.

No. Italy sends the winner of San Remo Competition to the song contest which can be any genre and any type of song because Italy has a wide variety of music styles that are popular there. Maybe they were known for their 'classic' songs like 30 years ago but the last 10 years the songs have been all styles, including pop, rock and ballads.

They won because of an amazing song and an amazing staging. Emma made Italy ashamed because of her arrogance during press conference, her ignorance, her lack of singing, her shitty song. Of what shall I be proud of? Her catwalking like a fake Britney Spears? Her lack of vocals? Her horrible performance?

Ok, ve la siete litigata alla grande nei commenti qui sotto. Avete discusso, avete detto qualsiasi cosa, vi siete avvinghiati l'uno contro l'altro.
Ora, però, se possiamo fare una cosa, facciamola. Visto che qui c'è di mezzo l'ITALIA che viene rappresentata, chi ne è in grado riponga l'ascia di guerra, cortesemente. ALMENO fino al 10 maggio. E' dal 2011 che l'Italia è tornata e la RAI sta facendo un bel percorso nel cercare di riportare la gente a capire di Eurovision. E' passata da un inizio con Raphael Gualazzi, a Nina Zilli, a Marco Mengoni che ha avuto un supporto non solo di eurofan, ma anche dei suoi stessi fan (l'Esercito, per dirla com'è detta da loro) nella sua avventura. E ne ho visti davvero tanti iniziare a conoscere seriamente anche l'Eurovision oltre Marco stesso.
Adesso c'è Emma Marrone che ha uno stuolo di fan che è larghissimo, oltre a dati di vendite che non è che siano esattamente piccoli. L'idea della RAI è - forse vinciamo, forse no, ma intanto facciamo 2-3 cose:
1. mandiamo all'Eurovision gente famosa qui da noi, per lanciarla all'estero
2. cerchiamo di far conoscere l'evento a più gente possibile. Alcuni di quelli che avranno seguito l'Eurovision anche solo per il proprio cantante preferito finiranno per tornare. E' così che si allarga la base dei fan dell'ESC.
Fra l'altro, per chiudere, ho avuto spesso modo di notare come chi fa un confronto tra le varie Big 5 - le qualificate automatiche alla finale - dice che l'Italia si è finora sempre distinta per aver preso seriamente la competizione, al contrario di Paesi in cui alcune volte si è veramente caduti molto in basso.
A volte la dignità del risultato conta come se non più della vittoria; in particolare, ha SEMPRE dignità una top 10. La ebbe quel miracoloso voting di Gualazzi, la ebbe il nono posto di Nina Zilli e l'ha avuta il settimo di Marco Mengoni che poi è andato a esplorare il terreno anche fuori dall'Italia (al pari di Gualazzi, che ormai fa tour in mezza Europa e anche mondo, dal Canada al Giappone, ed è diventato un nome forte negli ambienti jazz).
Tutto giustissimo, ma in ogni caso non si può negare che c'è un abisso spaziale fra la bravura di Raphael Gualazzi e l'urlare (male) a squarciagola di 'sta rozza camionista. in ogni caso, se raggiungeremo la top 10 sarò felice perchè da italiano mi fa piacere, anche se Emma non lo merita, ma se finiremo nella seconda metà della classifica non mi dispererò di certo, e lo stesso faranno gli italiani che capiscano un minimo di musica. D'accordo mandare cantanti che abbiano un buon seguito di fan al fine di far conoscere la manifestazione, ma cerchiamo comunque di mantenere un certo standard di qualità: Gualazzi, la Zilli e Mengoni hanno portato brani di un certo spessore, quest'anno la Rai si è buttata sul trash proprio... Cavolo con tutti i cantanti bravi che abbiamo, non so: Elisa, Noemi, Renga, Malika Ayane... Comunque secondo me Emma non raggiungerà una buona posizione, ci penseranno le giurie a farla scendere XD
Quello dipende in particolare da come andrà la sera PRIMA dell'evento vero e proprio, il 9 maggio... le giurie votano sempre il giorno prima. Sta tutto nel riuscire a cantare due volte bene.
Su Francesco Renga, una cosa te la dico: io per mille motivi sono anni che ce lo vedrei.
Comunque i nostri cantanti finalmente stanno capendo il potenziale dell'Eurovision. L'unica a non averlo finora capito è stata Nina Zilli, e aggiungo un bel purtroppo. Perché a lei è fregato ben poco. Gualazzi aveva un'autentica maga dietro, Caterina Caselli, che azzeccò diverse scelte nel promuoverlo. Mengoni fu bravo a mettersi in gioco, ed è il motivo per cui lo apprezzo. E dopo l'Eurovision sono arrivati prima Incomparable e poi la futura versione spagnola di Pronto a correre inteso come disco.
Potrà piacere o non piacere, ma pure Emma sembra aver preso nel modo giusto l'Eurovision. Vetrina verso l'estero. Per troppi anni ci siamo chiusi dentro di noi, autocelebrandoci quando fuori si erano fermati Ramazzotti e Andrea Bocelli, e solo Tiziano Ferro e Laura Pausini avevano realmente sfondato tra il 1993 e il 2011 (sì, lo so che dovrei partire dal '97, ma per certi versi faccio valere un po' le regole dell'eccezione statistica). Adesso Gualazzi va in mezzo mondo a esibirsi, Mengoni l'ho già detto ed Emma ha in progetto lo sbarco in Spagna.
Io spero che nell'Eurovision più imprevedibile degli ultimi anni (perché lo è, somiglia molto a quello del 2011) si possa aspirare a stare lassù. E con mezzi LECITI - non come qualcun altro che adora assai mezzi meno leciti (ogni riferimento a un certo paese NON è casuale..)
I don't understand why every video about Emma has these fights about her English (and Italy in general). You know why I watch Eurovision? Because I love the beauty of different languages and countries. I watch literally every backstage video, because I want to learn more about the people competing.
All the fights make me feel like it's bad to like Emma's music. I probably care too much, but I'm still sad she (no, ITALY) lost this bad. Here it's all 'oh great, we got second!'. But the only thing I care about is how Italy did. I will probably never know though, because nobody bothers to translate it from Italian to English for us!
I was remarkably calm this week, considering I have my finals. You know why? Because I listen to Emma's music. Everyone was shaking like a leaf, but not me ;)

Io non capisco una cosa, perchè tutti gli altri paesi tifano per se stessi in modo assurdo e noi siamo solo capaci ad offendere Emma e la sua canzone e anche l'Italia e la sua musica? A me non piace Emma, ma spero lo stesso anche se non mi piace che vada in alto all'Eurovision. Prima di giudicare questa canzone come insulsa, orrenda, trash e bla bla andate ad ascoltare le altre canzoni (es. Bielorussia che ha un testo che non ha senso.)

The only thing that disappointed me was her live performance in the ESC finals. I was honestly expecting a bit more from her but everybody was amazing. I'm glad she was able to represent Italy.
Her first ep was 'Oltre' (2010), then 'A me piace così' (two differents versions, the second with the song of her first Sanremo and two more), 'sarò libera' (also this in two versions, the 2nd with non è l'inferno, sanremo's song) and finally 'schiena' (the 2nd version with la mia città + all the unplugged songs)

She doesn't need a beard, her personality is strong enough to rock and conquer people just staying in the stage. Personally i think geopolitical struggles penalized her too much. And yes, probably her voice was not at its best but who cares? I prefer passion and love for music to a perfect but flat performance.

Ed Mab Non so quali siano i tuoi riferimenti musicali per dire che "Her voice is nice too !", poichè si tratta solo di uno fenomeno da baraccone creato a tavolino nei programmi spazzatura delle tv di Berlusconi (hai presente un attimo chi sia Silvio Berlusconi?!) e pompata dai media italiani di regime a più non posso solo perchè legata a doppio filo con la mafia cui sopra ti facevo cenno. Da italiano non plagiato da TV e giornali di regime, come purtroppo la maggior parte del popolo italiano, ti dico che invece ha una voce molto comune per nulla dotata in estensione, volgare nei modi, nel parlare e nel (s)vestirsi, portata più allo strillo che al canto è anche molto ignorante e cafona, e fa spesso la gradassa con tutti visto che sa di avere le spalle ben coperte, rappresenta l'armaggedon della musica italiana!

Emma è una brava cantante, ma diavolo.... ci voleva un po' più di buon gusto per il video...sinceramente sembra una pornodiva con vestiti improbabili, uno sei quali sembra essere preso direttamente da E.T. di Katy Perry.
Insomma la canzone è carina la si canticchia.... è proprio il video che è orrendo.
In ogni caso siamo in finale per diritto non certo per merito.

E' la migliore canzone dell'Eurofestival 2014. Molto più avanti e moderna di tutte le altre. Magari non vincerà, ma in confronto alle banalità, al cattivo gusto e al Kitsch imperante nella manifestazione, con questo pezzo Emma sta su un altro pianeta. Brava.
